  • Hey guys! I recently picked up this old bobcat 825 with hydrostatic drive issues. The price was right, so i pulled the trigger. The machine had intermittent drive issues, occasionally it would not run, etc. Here are the first steps of me diagnosing and attempting to repair it. If I am able to fix it, itll be very helpful for the farm!

    I used to work on Perkins many years ago, the ones I remember were 4-108 and they are a bit hard to start. Indirect injected. Is that what you have?

      I'm not sure what model it is, ill have to check. Any idea where the numbers would be on the block?

    FYI if all the water is on the bottom the Oil will not look milky and longer. If you can heat the oil somehow the water will settle faster.

      You are correct! I had driven it off the trailer though so i made the assumption that it was all mixed. I did not know the water would settle out with heat though

    What did you find out about the elbows that had nothing on them. Were they relief fittings that would discharge oil to the sump when the reliefs open? Check your glow plugs. Ether start and glow plugs do not get along very well.

    • @KindsKattleRanch
      @KindsKattleRanch  Před rokem

      From my understanding, they are case drains off the relief valves, however they should have some form of a drain hose on them to prevent aeration.

      I've got one of these. The Perkins is a reliable very fuel efficient engine. Not powerful. Terrible cold starters. They don't have glow plugs but a terrible manifold heater that rarely works. Just a whisper of Cosby sauce and they take right off. JUST A WHISPER.

      I believe this one has had enough cosby sauce pumped in it to fire the titanic.

    Don't worry buddy the oil filter is probably blocked. Also could be valve stuck. Are the levers moving the valve controls correctly Also might be chain drive gone on one side

    • @KindsKattleRanch
      @KindsKattleRanch  Před rokem +1

      The levers seem to work as designed, its currently able to run and drive now since i plugged that hole. It still has low charge pressure, but i think thats the filters. Im going to put some hours on it and then do new fluids and filters.

    We thought it would be good to invest in a skid steer for a fmaily friends pole building business… it just cost too dang much to keep up with it. Every use something broke or went out or busted. We decided it was best to just rent one if we really needed it 😂

      In some cases this is absolutely the right thing to do. Sometimes the overhead is not worth it.
