I’ve had my 2017 XT5 AWD for about 10 months now with no problems. Sorry you had these issues. Sounds to me that the oil filter was not screwed on tight enough after the last oil change. As far as the strut problem, most dealers would have replaced only the defective one. At least your dealer did the right thing by replacing both of them.
Never did believe in putting a oil filter on just hand tight. (That's a matter of opinion) I always give it another 1/4 turn with a wrench just to be sure. Never had one leak yet.

I have a 2020 xt5 with 9k and oil is leaking all around the oil pan seal. Leaves a mess in the garage every morning. Getting it fixed next. I noticed you had oil drops over the oil pan bolts.
I was also a happy camper up until now. Maybe my car is just one "lemon" and there is nothing to worry about overall. Just feel a little disappointed to have problems so early.
My XT5 broke down in 3 months of owning it. Then GM replaced it... one week later the engine blew up while I was on my way to the airport. Horrible car, Cadillac's are death traps.

Can you tell me what they fixed when it had the “steering assist reduced” and AC issue? Mine is doing that exact thing now and it would be helpful to know what fixed it, thanks.
that steering assist issue is actually a bad thermostat. It is a known problem. look up gm service bulletin 17-NA-158. Since this is used on a lot of GM products my car is in the shop waiting for this part which is on backorder with NO ETA!!!!
We have owned our current 2017 XT5 since new (6 years) and just had our first problem, The thermostat housing failed. ($1400.00) but other than that no problems. By and far the most comfortable car/suv money can buy.

This is the second Cadillac I’ve bought with issues. For the price of these vehicles especially, Cadillac has to do better. Disappointed
Has anyone ever noticed there's no engine splash guard pan under your car like most cars. When it rains a good bit and water splashes under the car have you noticed your xt5 smoking due to the hot exhaust ? I've observed the 2.0 xt5 has a cover plate engine splash guard but the V6 xt5 versions do not . So I actually thought mine was missing and tried to order one through Cadillac and they didn't even know that GM does not make them for the V6 version. I think it would be an important part to have especially when it rains a lot and you have to hit puddles you can't swerve around. I've hit up GM to ask them why didn't they have a engine splash guard designs for the V6 and they couldn't answer my question
Seems like these vehicles did not get allot of attentions when they were engendered. I changed one radiator was still u see warranty the sway bar link broke then the other link broke on apposite side now I have steering assist reduced due to a problem in thermostat that I can not find one to purchase due to back orders. I guess china is not producing them fast enough
It's not fair to say this vehicle is bad and give it a thumbs down. The oil filter issue is a minor one that has nothing to do with the vehicle qualty. It was the dealership worker who is not a mechanic installed it incorrectly. However the technician who failed to diagnose that grinding noise should be fired. Replacing that axle nut is ridiculous, I would not trust that dealership any longer and would find another one for service. No vehicle is perfect, so if the strut replacement fixed the problem then that's great. Sometimes these things do happen unfortunately, but I wouldn't condem that vehicle just yet. I Have a 2021 and no problems so far, it's been great and I enjoy driving it. Good luck.
30k on wife’s XT5 and no problems. She loves it...ok one problem which is really my fault. Since i’m alway home due to COVID19 I do all the driving. I neglected to keep a charge on battery. It drained it dead. New AGM battery: $230 with DIY installation.
I drive a 2017 and it has a clunking sound in the front end that occurs when you accelerate and then let up up the gas and then accelerate again. GM says it is normal. Normal? And this is their premium brand. If they value their customers and their brand, they had better start treating the brand better than say a Chevy. If they keep this up, Cadillac will end up on the retired nameplate list too. Need to get rid of mine before the warranty runs out. Lexus next? Most likely..despite the grill.
It's a shame to hear that GM says clunking is normal on a newer premium car. Try a different dealer for a second opinion. Maybe even a smaller shop if they honor GMs warranty. Good luck.
We had the exact same problem on our 2017 XT5. The dealer had to replace the engine mounts, under warranty, and that solved the clicking/clunking sound. It took a couple of days to get the parts, but we had a loaner. We have put on 10,000 more miles and no more problems. Also be sure they do the recall for the replacement axle nuts (mentioned in the video). Love this car!
I have a '17 too. I had to replace exhaust brackets... about 35k apart. I'm at 100k burning oil. and now plugs are >$600????? disappointed to say the least.
Toyotas are definitely more reliable, especially those made in Japan. However, newer models made in the US starting to "cut corners" as well, so keeping an older model is probably a good idea.
I'm not sure why you were getting beat up about this video. You never said the xt5 was junk or cadillac was crap. You just said you were disappointed in your 50 plus thousand dollar car. Just curious though, are you back to happy or did you get rid of the xt5?
LOL, I guess you've noticed an attack on me for this video. Well, I still drive the XT5 and enjoy it, because it's great when it works! However, now I have an intermittent "auto-lock" issue, as I've mentioned in another reply. Sometimes the door stays unlocked overnight. Luckily, I live in a good neighborhood, but little things like that are pushing me away from Cadillac.
Still confusing between XT5 and RX350. Im a Lexus fanboy and im having RC350 F, but i wanna try something new so i look for XT5. Hmmm...not sure which one i should get...
Just bought a 2019 XT5 it is a death trap! Cruise control kicked in and would not stop until I shut the car off. It was stuck accelerating in cruise control up to 105MPH... Buyer BEWARE!!! the car has less than 11,000 miles on it.
Kawaii Cookie- actually it was checked out by Cadillac had another person in the car with me….. it is a complete piece of garbage! Of course they don’t want to admit it happened. If they had, YES it would be recalled. Just like this guy had a problem and you will too.
Had the same problem, also had the catalytic converter chaged, engine mount changed, new brakes because of bad rust making noise, engine mount changed, software problems up the wazoo! No faith in American cars! GM sucks! Btw, 30,000 miles on it.
Glad to hear that you don't have problems for 3 years... and that's how it's supposed to be. My car now developed an electrical/computer issue... sometimes "auto-lock" works and some mornings I find my car unlocked overnight. What's the point of this feature if you can't trust it?
We bought a used XT 5 with 57,000 miles, soon after kept getting intermittent reduced steering assist messages. Dealer replaced thermostat housing- thankfully under warranty. Last year had to have sunroof sunshade replaced- $800. Recently had a broken Ac vent clip and buttons are peeling from remote start and gear selector. I agree Cadillac quality has gone downhill, I will not buy another Cadillac again. Good luck to all XT5 owners out there.
Is it just one seat or all? If it's just one seat not heating, the wire for the heater inside the seat probably got loose, or the switch under the button is bad. If all seats not heating, then probably the protective fuse is blown. Your car should be under warranty up to 50k miles.
Do research on where the fuse boxes are on your car and the name and location of the fuse responsible for the heater on your seats. Hopefully, it's just a burned-out fuse, which can be easily replaced. But if your car was ever in a flood, this will get really complicated.
Brother you have a Citrus, I have two Cadillac, a Deville with 200K on it and an SRX with 150K and I never never have a problem with my Cadi, your the first one to have this thing of problem, don't make your vehicle a general opinion of the brand
Well, fortunately, or unfortunately, this is not my first Cadi. I've had 2009 CTS with multiple problems beyond my repair skill level... and I'm a skillful guy, as you can see on my videos. Similar problems occurred in my 2012 SRX. And now this 2018 XT5. I base my opinion on three cars, and 10 years of ownership. Glad you don't have any problems, maybe I'm just an unlucky guy, LOL.
It’s a lemon. Non of our Cadillacs have had these sorts of issue. Oh and the oil spill story was a bullish!z story they gave ya. There’s no gasket you add to it. The oil filter has a gasket built in. Likely technician literally did not tighten more than hand slightly tight and after road vibration and built up oil pressure it came loose. The struts could be directly related to coupling tires after driving in rough road condition/ bad chassis from a crash/ rough turns from turning while foot on gas and or a combination of all. But coupled tires would cause this alone. 6 years of previous dealership service department experience. Worst thing I think I’ve seen was a 60+ year old lady whom was taking care of daughters house and car while she was out of country. The poor older lady said she saw a jar light come on in dashboard before starting car. She assumed car wanted water popped the hood, opened oil cap which had a jar picture and proceeded to fill it with water from water hose Car had catastrophic engine failure. I covered the repair not with any warranty or manufacture anything. Coverage was only possible through her daughters car insurance under comprehensive coverage. Morale of the story there is always a perfectly good explanation just takes time to get there. FYI lady’s mom kept the ordeal to her self until we found water in engine block
I noticed he had oil droplets around the bolts that hold the oil pan. I have the same thing on my 2020 xt5 with only 9k miles. It started leaking a lot of oil recently...I have a huge puddle of oil in my garage. Have to take it in next week to replace the pan and gasket. Probably my last Cadillac I will purchase. I also hear a faint grinding noise when I accelerate. 65k car. I should've gone with a Toyota
So...it's a been a little over a year. What is your Chevy worth now? (Chevy masquerading as an actual "premium" brand) You should probably go ahead and take the financial hit and trade it for an actual premium vehicle, like a Lexus.
This XT5's is absolute garbage. My father who is a retiree has to keep bringing this junk back to the dealer for oil leaks. To make matters worse, he is loyal to GM because he retired from them. I tell him all the time, it's JUNK. I have BMW with 135k miles and it's like brand new inside, out and mechanically. Now the car is in the dealer for 2 weeks because they are waiting on parts. And the diagnosis is a JOKE!! They say it's the oil pan leaking. Not the gasket. Just the oil pan. Ok the car has less than 10k miles and it's not been off-roading so pretty sure the oil pan is not cracked. GM techs are about as bad or worse than the cars themselves. One more strike, lemon law baby!!!
My in-laws want to GIVE me their 2018 XT5 with only 10K miles on it...FREE... and between this video and Scotty Kilmer hating Cadillac so much, I think I may actually pass on it. :-(
My car has over 30K now, and I haven't had any major problems with it since this video. However, the Start/Stop feature is very annoying and can not be disabled. Every time I stop at the intersection the engine stops, the AC stops cooling and just blows regular air (in Florida sun), and when the engine restarts, it gives a nice jolt to the car... not a very smooth transition for a luxury vehicle. But if you can get this car for free, without any strings attached, it's not bad.
@@Your-Self Thanks...that makes me feel a little better. I'm in AZ so I'm with you brother!! LOL. I have a fix for you... but buddy is a cop and his undercover patrol car is a Ford Explorer... (same deal, no button to temporarily disable the stop / start ). He put a $5 jump wire on it and that was all it took, essentially bypassing it, now it never ever shuts off now. I'm planning to do that myself, (sure it would void the warranty but as you and I know... the goons at the dealership will never even notice). BTW, after warranty expires, I'll never ever go to a dealer after that. I'm a huge fan of Scotty Kilmer on CZcams, you should check him out. Great, honest car advice. Thanks again for posting. Once I figure out the jump to shut off the auto start/stop, I'll email you.

With Cadillac quality these days? What days did Cadillac ever make a quality product? That's why they're mostly least and then when returned sent straight to the buy here pay here " We'll finance anyone" Dealerships. Across their entire lineup they have some of the worst reliability histories as reflected in their mediocre resale values. That's why if you see one of these on the road that's more than 4 years old there's a good chance the driver has long fake fingernails and multiple baby daddys
These American crossover/suv are trash they are cheaply made and carry that horrible 3.6 and people stop lying " oh I have 17 xt5 70k miles no problem " Stop lying
Just bought a 2018 XT5 in May last year Only 45000 miles Already had a water pump replaced And now my transmission has gone out!!!!! Dealer said it will take a month to fix because of parts and other vehicles. Now I have to rent a car
Watch Scotty Kilmer, an honest Mechanic who’s been fixing all kind of cars for more than 52 years. He would tell you, not to walk, but to RUN AWAY from any GM cars, including Cadillacs !
This is so dumb! Do you think Cadillac makes the struts and oil filter? No, it’s made by the same part companies that supply every other luxury automaker. Sometimes things break, that just happens, it’s not Cadillacs fault! Get an Audi or a BMW and get ready for even worse problem eg fuel pumps, electrics etc
Cadillac obviously is not making struts... they don't make anything. GM finds the cheapest parts, uses underpaid workers to assemble it without quality control, slaps the Cadillac label on this junk, and sells it for a top dollar to keep the shareholders happy. Please don't tell me that this is ok, and we all have to bend over and take it. Audi and BMW are not any better, so Lexus maybe is the way to go.
LOL, maybe I don't know all the little details about the whole auto industry, but neither do you! However, I've owned three Cadillacs in the past 10 years, and developed a pretty strong opinion about the brand... and it's not stellar. Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting.

Glad you don't have any problems! And that's how it's supposed to be, at least till 100K miles.
Sounds like a bad motor mount
Glad I read the reviews, guess I ll keep my toyota highlander
@@Your-Self Throw it out now, or as soon as your warranty expires. Its a kind of car that likes to sit in service shops than stay on roads.
Still confusing between XT5 and RX350. Im a Lexus fanboy and im having RC350 F, but i wanna try something new so i look for XT5. Hmmm...not sure which one i should get...
I like the XT5, but the reliability of it doesn't seem up to par.
Don’t buy a Cadillac ! You will waste your money. Stick to high quality durable and reliable Lexus (in other words Toyota)
Lexus bro this coming from a caddy guy
Thanks guys, i got RX350 already, and...yeah, everything’s good so far.
My xt5 is giving transmission soon unable to shift message and I cannot move it out of park
I'm having the same problem 🤦🏾♀️
Just bought a 2019 XT5 it is a death trap! Cruise control kicked in and would not stop until I shut the car off. It was stuck accelerating in cruise control up to 105MPH... Buyer BEWARE!!! the car has less than 11,000 miles on it.
O wow that's crazy
Your comment is full of shiit, if the cruise control stuck they have to investigate and do a full recall since it belong to safety.
Had my xt5 3 years still no problems
Glad to hear that you don't have problems for 3 years... and that's how it's supposed to be. My car now developed an electrical/computer issue... sometimes "auto-lock" works and some mornings I find my car unlocked overnight. What's the point of this feature if you can't trust it?
YourSelf maybe it’s a lemon 🍋
@@Your-Self same auto in mine.. and heated seats...
My spring broke my passenger side strut 3 times! It’s a problem with this model
Have a 2028 XT5 with about 24K miles..no problems!!
Will be buying out my lease in Aug.
Filter not tightened...
Hopefully, you leased it instead of having bought it.
It’s sad to see Cadillac quality going downhill
Lexus is the new "Cadillac" of cars
any one have problem heating seats not working? what it could be
Is it just one seat or all? If it's just one seat not heating, the wire for the heater inside the seat probably got loose, or the switch under the button is bad. If all seats not heating, then probably the protective fuse is blown. Your car should be under warranty up to 50k miles.
both not working..:) its 19 k just.. badly no warranty i bought from.usa and shipped to europe.. and winter is here sadly no heating seats
Do research on where the fuse boxes are on your car and the name and location of the fuse responsible for the heater on your seats. Hopefully, it's just a burned-out fuse, which can be easily replaced. But if your car was ever in a flood, this will get really complicated.
@@Your-Self car is not in flood :)
i tested fuses works good..
Xt5 does not have power steering pump looks like the oil filter is not tight just so you know new mechanics start in oil lube
I have 2017 XT5, excellent car. Sorry you bought a bad car.
i had to get all new struts on my escalade and it was almost 5k i had to pay. out of warranty
Ouch...
How many miles did you get out of your struts?
@@Your-Self wayyy to many! like 90k lol
Great vid!
She assumed car wanted water popped the hood, opened oil cap which had a jar picture and proceeded to fill it with water from water hose
Car had catastrophic engine failure.
My car is making the same sound when I turn as well
I hope it's still under warranty.
The rubber seal is the problem
Filter may be lose
My 2nd xt5 still problematic im changing brand
What problems did you have?
You see this trace of oil and start filming?! Get outa here! I have xt5 couldn’t be any happier! Check the registration, they sold you a salvage car.
I just may do that, lol.
I own a 2019 no problems ..smdh !
Xtra ok jiaozi
Arlotta
It would be great to know where to place that jump wire!
YourSelf I think if you put it in manual mode when you get to a light that to drive mode but I will find out how to put the jumper cable on
Why would you pass on a free car
It be the shop saying it stuff I had a Hummer and they would break stuff to make me come back I would go in for a oil change a 2 hrs later I ask what the hood up is they were busy but some of the people came after me was long gone they would say I had a leak and when I tell them I do have one before I came and tell them to wrap up that oil change he came back with oh it was just residue 🙄🙄🙄 I do my own oil changes and maintenance haven’t done brakes yet but my friend Sasha will show me she’s a diesel mechanic and has her own shop in Houston and New Orleans I love working on my cars I’m gonna help my son-in-law change out his alternator on his Ram 1500 Truck I know how to do it but I’m gonna just hand him the tools so it’s not always the Car brand in my experience at the shop🤨
Yes my Cadillac is a nightmare my xt5 the 2017 I didn't know any better and didn't read about it but have lots of problems big mistake my Ford was better
That's why if you see one of these on the road that's more than 4 years old there's a good chance the driver has long fake fingernails and multiple baby daddys
next time try jeep !!!! u will be m0re disappoint :)
These American crossover/suv are trash they are cheaply made and carry that horrible 3.6 and people stop lying " oh I have 17 xt5 70k miles no problem " Stop lying
Cadillac Chevy Pontiac all trash absolute expensive trash good luck to whoever owns one you'll see if not now pretty soon
Just bought a 2018 XT5 in May last year
Only 45000 miles
Already had a water pump replaced
And now my transmission has gone out!!!!!
Dealer said it will take a month to fix because of parts and other vehicles.
Now I have to rent a car
That sucks
Watch Scotty Kilmer, an honest Mechanic who’s been fixing all kind of cars for more than 52 years. He would tell you, not to walk, but to RUN AWAY from any GM cars, including Cadillacs !
LOL, will do!
Makes me wonder how he can be a so called expert on every vehicle.
He also has a video stating they're the best
YourSelf well at least we’ve established you don’t know shit about the auto industry!
LOL, maybe I don't know all the little details about the whole auto industry, but neither do you! However, I've owned three Cadillacs in the past 10 years, and developed a pretty strong opinion about the brand... and it's not stellar. Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting.
Nothing is dumb here. Who cares about who makes what. Who gets the $$ from me for a product matters, and if it is worthful over time matters.
XT5 big pile of dung u could buy
I miss old Cadillac quality :(
Which one was that?
