    Did I miss something here, what do I call this nifty gadget? 🤣 UPDATE... I ordered from them and I was waiting and waiting for it to arrive. All along it was sitting at my post office waiting for me to pick it up. (so be aware of what app or tracking site you use to track the package) I installed this "nifty little gadget" that was slightly different as the video explained - mine connects to the negative battery terminal, (the instructions were great and they even sent me a nice 10mm wrench - thank you) This gizzmo is the best thing since sliced bread. • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  Před 3 lety +2

      The remote start gets a little finicky, but it still works.
      *Remote Start will only work after car has been off at least 20 minutes.
      *Remote Start will only work if the Lock and Remote Start buttons on the key fob are sequenced rapidly.
      *After a remote start, when you get in the car, you must cycle Ignition off and on again manually in order to activate the Auto-Stop Override.
      Otherwise love this device!

    What does this tell the engine? That the hood is still open? Or does it have to do with ambient outside temp?

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  Před rokem

      As I understand it, the jig is a delay timer. And it's telling the computer that the "hood was opened" during the ignition. And then it was closed. So the "Hood Open" warning light doesn't come on.

  • @jerryg50

    My SUV has an OFF button for the Auto Off feature, which I hate! I have to remember to press the button every time I start the vehicle. Some vehicles have a menu entry located in the vehicle setup where the user can disable it. My SUV does not have this option. There are more add on devices coming on to the market to defeat this feature in many of the models of vehicles. Most of these are sold on line only. They are technically illegal to install.
    The dealer service people told me if any gadget is installed or any modification is done to disable this feature, they will get an error code when they run the diagnostics during the routine servicing. Best to remove whatever mod you do before bringing the vehicle in for service. The dealer service rep told me it is illegal to tamper with this feature. It is considered part of the emission control system. They are getting many complaints about this feature.
    Most gasoline vehicles are starting to have the Auto Off feature if the engine is larger than 1.8 Litres in size. Many people find this feature horribly annoying! This feature adds for a lot more wear on the starter motor and the starter's Bendix gear. Expensive to replace the starter and Bendix gear. The dealer service told me even though the starters and Bendix gear are built stronger for this feature they are still changing more of these assemblies. After the vehicle warranty is finished this will be expensive for the vehicle owner. Frequent stops and starts of the engine also reduces engine life compared to letting the engine run continuously.
    Another drawback with the Auto Off is when the engine is stopped the engine's oil pressure instantly drops to zero. Then when the driver releases the breaks, or touches the gas pedal the engine immediately starts while the transmission is engaged and is under instant load to move the vehicle. For a few seconds the engine is under load with zero oil pressure. This over time will add to greater rate of crank shaft and cam shaft bearing wear. Even though there is still a coating of oil on these parts, having zero oil pressure for even a second under load is not good. This will lead to greater rate of engine wear! Very costly to rebuild or buy a new engine!
    Normally, when you start your vehicle it is in Park or Neutral. The engine is being started with very little load on its output. The only load it has is the flywheel and the torque converter. This type of load is very small for the engine. By the time you put the transmission in to drive or gear, there is a safe level of oil pressure.

    So far the Co that make the device does not make one for a 2020 Terrain. I did read that GMC's 2022 Terrain will have a button on it to over ride the S/S from working. I am thinking the same may7 be true for the 2022 Nox. Perhaps GM/GMC will offer some sort of factory design kit for the 2020 & 2021's GM/GMC's for a override button.

      So then just put your shifter into L and press the + sign up to the number 9. And it will disable it and the car will drive like it normally does in D. You have too do this every time you start the vehicle. However, that's the best work around at least for now.

    How does this function, and does it cause any long term issues?

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  Před 3 lety +1

      I think it works by sending a signal from the hood as if it's opened during the start-up by using a delay function. So the main computer "thinks" that the hood was open, and now it's not. So no warning lights come on, but the Stop-Start feature is disabled! Try physically open your hood before you start the car, then close it and drive... it should work the same way. According to the website I got it from, it doesn't cause any long-term issues. And I personally don't see how it would cause any problems.

    • @Your-Self
      @Your-Self  Před 3 lety +1

      Maybe it's a personal issue, but I find the jolt from the restarting engine very annoying.
      The A/C stops cooling during the Auto-Stop, and just blowing regular air. Here in hot Florida, that creates a big temperature swing in heavy traffic.
      When crossing an intersection in front of other cars, my car sometimes hesitates to go from a half stop.
      I'm sure that the starter, the battery, and something else will fail shortly because of this feature.
      A small amount of saved gas is not worth me dealing with this inconvenient "innovation."
      But now I'm very happy since I went back to normal driving.

    When you consider the fact that the vehicle is worth ZERO, with the stop / start technology in place, you can understand why people explore various methods of eliminating it. You can have the evil stop start technology permanently disabled. But you MUST do it as a condition of sale at the time you buy. The dealer can easily program this feature off. They do this for most government vehicles and police departments. If your dealer won't do it, go to another dealer. Engine Stop Start technology was developed for the SOLE purpose of improving the EPA, MPG number during their NON-REALISTIC test. In the real world it does virtually nothing to save fuel, but it DOES wear out your engine faster. Nothing is harder on a car engine than when you start it. There are several aftermarket kits that can defeat Engine Stop Start technology. Forced Lighting (Daytime Running Lights that cannot be controlled by the driver) is another common thing that people get rid of. Unless, you have a Toyota, which has "DRL off" right on the light switch.
