      Exactly, as incredible as he was, you never felt like she was riding his coat tails in anything. She was her own awesomeness, that's very odd to have a sibling that most people consider the King of Pop but you in your own right measured up substantially. Amazing.

      IKR!! We had tha pleasure 🙏🏾 of watching Janet grow early! She did right choosing JimmyJam & Terry 2 produce her and bring out qualities. Although this song was produced by Monte Moir of tha Time, Janet opened up to us a lil with 🎶! This is ALL her as Paula Abdul did help on her first album but Paula b'came a rivalist w/her solo album so Janet wanted prove she already had tha SPICE 😉💯

    Janet Jackson actually started out as a young actress. She played "Penny" On "Good Times". Then a few years later she was on "Different Strokes" and played Willis' girlfriend. She was also in a few movies as an adult. One of which was "Poetic Justice".
    That being said, I think this song, and Rythmn Nation are my two favorite songs from her. 😁

      RN 1814 had 4 #1 songs on it in the USA (Miss You Much, Escapade, Black Cat & Love Will Never Do (Without You). She came close with the #2's Rhythm Nation & Come Back To me. The record is 5 #1's tied between Michael Jackson's album "Bad" & Katy Perry's album "Teenage Dream".

      She had "it" as early as Michael Jackson's Off The Wall album demos from 1978. Have you heard Michael's demo of Don't Start Til You Get Enough? "Nasty", "Miss you much", "Rhythm nation", "Alright", "all for you", "All Nite (Don’t Stop)", "Rock With U" to name a few....her concerts always included and incredible dance routine, great stage production...one of the best entertainers of all time male or female.

    Janet is a legend. One of the best selling and most awarded artists of all time with a huge discography that has set numerous records and she's still going strong today. She belongs in the same level of Madonna, Prince and yes, her brother (though she is a very different artist in her own right).
    Paula did choreograph 2 of her videos of of her Control album; What Have you Done for me Lately and Nasty.
    My favorite artist of all time. I'm so glad you guys are discovering her.

      ​​@@Kickinthesciencerazy Mariah actually is the reason why Janet doesn't have more number one singles. Everytime Mariah was #1 Janet was #2 reason why she had so many top 5 and #1 singles. Janet was on top of her game from '86-'01.
      Outside of her and Madonna there wasn't anybody else as influential amongst female performers and entertainers.
      Mariah definitely was the best artist as far as success on the charts is concerned in the 90's, but Janet was #2 according to Billboard.

    My favourite, Black Cat. There was swing in the 40s, 50s and early 60s. Then there was go go music for awhile. In the 70s the focus was on rock and dancing was more of a shuffle. With disco the focus was on dancing for awhile and computer generated sound.

    MJ and Janet inspired each other. His work from Bad onwards wouldn't be the same had Janet not existed. She also is responsible for introducing Hip Hop into R&B and pop. From the beats to the dancing. You can see the inlfunece of Nasty in Bad and When I Think Of You in The Way You Make Me Feel.

    "Black Cat" and "Rhythm Nation" are her 2 biggest contributions to music. Since you two have affection for rocker chicks, I say go for "Black Cat" next because it features some stellar playing from Vernon Reid, guitarist of Living Colour.

    "Rhythm Nation" came out in my senior year and it was what we hoped for in the future: "Like minded individuals bound together by our beliefs, pushing toward a world rid of color lines". She was also the first woman on television with a shape like mine(in the 1980s, it didn't seem like anyone had a rear end).

    Janet was just inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "Rhythm Nation" was her magnum opus. Anything from that album is a banger. You should do "Nasty", though, if only because Paula Abdul is also in the video. As for 80s babes, you also had Madonna, Whitney, Annie Lennox, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Gloria Estefan, Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, Bonnie Tyler, Sade, and, of course, Dolly, just to name a few.

    Janet was my childhood sweetheart!! From her singing arena to playing Charlotte in The Fresh Prince!!. She had so many great hits throughout her career. It's too bad that her performance with Justin Timberlake caused the industry to black ball her music .
    .. while nothing happened to Timberlake. Such a tragedy for an extremely talented artist!!!!

    I remember an ex-gf dragging me along to a Janet Jackson concert in the early 90s... Tbh I didn't want to go because I hadn't got into her music beforehand... I left the concert as a newly appreciative fan because I was quite surprised at the standard of her performance. She's a Jackson through and through for sure... I enjoyed Michael's concert more, of course 😏 Most of Janet's choreography was done by Paula Abdul.

    Paula Abdul was her choreographer for the Control Album videos. And not all of it. She's worked with many different ones. The other choreographer who earned her recognition was Tina Landon.
    There was a guy name Anthony Thomas they called Bam Bam. Yeah. Janet always switched it up. And it always fit the styling of the Album she worked on.
    You have to watch her ALRIGHT video. It was a throwback tribute to Cab Callaway and his era.
