I never had a father and as a little girl, I used to dream of having a Dad like Maurice! He was a force to be reckoned with! Especially when he was protecting his little girl! Even Endora KNEW IT!
Maurice's deep love for his daughter added to his anger toward Endora and the others. What a great character!

Seeing how disrespectful Endora was to Darrin, this scene was always satisfying for me. This is another example of Endora overstepping her boundaries, she had it coming, all 3 of them had it coming.

This clip demonstrates how powerful that Maurice truly is. Endora is usually portrayed as being an extremely powerful witch, but Maurice's power is even greater than that of Endora, Enchantra, and Hagatha combined. They were utterly helpless against him.
Endora was a Very Powerful Witch as where her Sister's they where all Members of the Witch's Council and Maurice could Never let his Gaurd Down Around Endora because if he did She could Ovet Power Him and he Knew it but Endoras Greatest Power over him was that he Still loved Endora and never wanted any Other Warlocks to look at her.
I believe that Maurice is more powerful than Endora, but both are extremely powerful and come from notable witch families which is how Samantha later became head of the Witchs’ Council.
But clearly Maurice still does love Endora. My guess is Maurice probably had an affair, or more likely a mistress, something much more common in the olden days when they were from, but clearly not acceptable to Endora, so she left him. Sometimes you don’t realize what you have until it’s gone. I do have hope they will eventually reunite.
And I love how they gave his magic the thunderbolt sound effects. Isn't this the scene where he offered Aunt Clara a "lift" at the end? For some reason I always loved that - probably because Aunt Clara is so fragile and Maurice so powerful. #ChivalryGoalz

The most powerful character on the show
Endora is very powerful, but Maurice is even more powerful. Either way Samantha and Tabatha have blue blood in their witchcraft. I love the way that both Maurice and Endora have such a soft spot for their children, and grandchildren.
I wished there were more episodes with them together 🥰

Yes, I really appreciate how Maurice and Aunt Clara's relationship was depicted here. Unlike most of the witch community, Maurice didn't treat her like crap because of her tendency to goof-up spells. There was more to Aunt Clara than her powers. Maurice knew and appreciated the good person that she was despite her flaws.

This is the only time that you see having both Maurice and Aunt Clara on an episode together. Also extra special at the end that you see Maurice babysitting Tabatha in her bedroom in which Samantha loved them deeply. Feeling so proud. She indeed was daddy's girl. Love Bewitched. Since this is October, there should be a marathon of the show to celebrate Halloween.

I always told my daughter that if she ever was in need, to call me and I would be there as soon as I could. It doesn't matter now that she is in her 40s and living across the country. Parenthood is forever.
Estelle Winwood, the very accomplished actor who played Enchantra, lived to be 101 years old (1883-1984).
An incredibly elegant lady.
I remember seeing Estelle Winwood in a movie called The Glass Slipper where she played an eccentric old woman who lived alone in the forest and turned out to be Leslie Caron’s fairy godmother. She was terrific in that role.

I remember one episode Samantha found him inside a picture frame and he said "He was framed", and another where he was inside a kettle or stockpot or something and he said he was a "stew-away"...lol.
I also like the one where Maurice went to work with Darrin and helped him with his chili campaign (though Darrin should have been grateful for his help and wasn’t).
I will always enjoy how this TV show excited my imagination. The entire cast was brilliant.

MrTitan225 it is television. It doesn’t matter how natural it looked, everyone wore makeup. Elizabeth’s makeup fit her character which was intended to be more homely. I don’t think her looks changed that drastically. She just got older like most women do.

Bewitched is one of my favorite sitcoms. Samantha is one of the greatest television housewives. She has taught me so much. Samantha is so patient with Darrin and I LOVE THEIR CHEMISTRY 💖💞

Maurice was based very much on Elizabeth Montgomery's father, who by all accounts was equally as theatrical. But Maurice winds up taking Darrin's side more often than not. Still one of my favorite warlock characters - even Endora was threatened by him!!
Interesting that the character is so proud of his name mah-REES!, while the actor himself preferred the British pronunciation MO-riss.
Lest we forget Marion Lorne. These seven actors (sans Tabitha) could have raised the curtain on any stage and made it look easy. And Evans' delivery could put you through the nearest stage set wall. Look up his "G.I. Production of Hamlet," I kid you not.
It was a great pleasure to share this series with my young niece and nephew, who thoroughly enjoyed it. My nephew especially was impressed bu Maurice and thought he was awesome.

Bewitched had some interesting depth and continuity, including extended familial relationships between the siblings Endorra, Clara, Enchantra, Hagatha and Arthur, not to mention cousin Serena (the daughter of one of Endorra's sisters). And the relationship and history between Endorra and Maurice is very Bohemian for the times.
I never have figured out who Clara is related to.
@@jaynedaily6080 In the canon of the show, Clara is Endorra's sister. Other sisters include Enchantra and Hagatha, and then there is their brother Arthur. A reasonable estimate is that Clara is the oldest, followed by Hagatha, Enchantra, Endorra and then Arthur. One of these - not Endorra or Arthur and it doesn't seem like Clara - is probably the parent of cousin Serena, although it's possible that Serena is also the child of an unacknowledged sibling of Maurice.
I'm glad that Maurice finally socked it to his trouble making wife "Endora" and those other two witches.

Maurice Evans will be remembered as one of the greatest Hamlets of all time.
The small scene, which was cut here, between Maurice and Clara was so sweet. And I i agree with another reviewer: Endora would not have taken Tabitha away from Sam and Darrin. She would have been on their side against the others.
I disagree. This was entirely in keeping with Endora's disdainful attitude toward both Darrin and Samantha. Taking Tabitha away would have been exactly the kind of mean-spirited and selfish thing she would do. She couldn't do it alone, which is why she summoned the other two. She pulled the same kind of stunt with Adam as I recall, but for the exact opposite reason, that he didn't seem to have any powers. But when he revealed that he did, it stymied her plans to take him away.
Endora's character changed throughout the series. By the end of season two she was getting relatively friendly with Darrin. But then the writers made an abrupt change and the tone between them became even more antagonistic and intolerant. It's unfortunate. Although there are occasional incidents, I think it was generally a missed opportunity in the storyline for Darren to gain more and more respect, admiration, and status among the Witch community.
Maurice is the bomb and a very good actor even on the planet of the apes he is awesome

It depends. If the parents are being abusive by making a child denied their own self, then other measures should be taken. This is a show and obviously it didn't show realistic consequences. When narcissists make their victims, which also include their own children, deny extraordinary parts of themselves... it results in suicide or depression and severe anxiety that takes years to unlearn. It can have an effect on everything in their life later. What Darren is doing to his family would never be acceptable these days and it would be enough to have the child taken away from them. Either that or when the child is old enough and can speak, they can decide at a certain age who they want to live with.
That whistle though. Does Sam have to carry that with her all the time? That means all her dresses need pockets. Very impractical. Should be on a necklace! 😂

After this, you would think Darren would get along with Maurice and don't mind him using his powers.
I always loved Bewitched. I like the Endora character, but she and those other 2 witches had it coming. Maurice taught them a good lesson. 😅😅

The first time Maurice met Darrin, he was pretty racist (anti-mortal) and literally blew him up- until he saw how sad Samantha was, then brought him back. He still disliked Darrin but didn't feel the need to meddle with Samantha's life like Endora did.

We love Maurice Evans ! I'm sorry he didn't make more films. Very good inside joke about how warlock Maurice should have been an actor. The actual Maurice Evans ( 1901- 1989) was a Shakespearean actor who had a great success with Richard II in 1937. He then played a full length Hamlet in 1938.
i loved him the Movie "Rosemary's Baby" starring Mia Farrow. The witches put a spell on him and made him go into a coma

Endora is not the one who sent Tabitha-and Adam to Hogwarts, Maurice is!
Endora and Maurice attended Hogwarts themselves. And Endora is actually a Weasley-and so is Clara!-But Endora was a misfit in her family-so she ran off-or flew off-to live in America and Maurice fallowed her. Then they had Samantha. When Samantha reached school age, she deprived Maurice of sending her to Hogwarts and sent her to Ilvamorney instead.
So when Tabitha reached school age, Maurice claimed both her and Adam his own and enrolled them at Hogwarts, he was proud to send his grandchildren to his old school!
