Iâve always said there is good music, great music, and then thereâs this song. This song is about as close to perfection as you can get! It is a song I consider one of my top 10 greatest songs of all time.
I had a lot of time on my hands in my younger days, so went through my 500+ album collection and rated every song on an 8-point scale. Needless to say, this one was an 8... just as great as music gets. Of the thousands of songs rated, I only gave about 30 8s, that score was reserved for the truly elite.
What you're seeing Jamel is one of the greatest Rock Bands ever! Their debut album sold off he charts and is still one of the best selling albums of All-Time! This album and still stands the test of time. Do some research on founding member Tom Scholz. He wrote the first album while working as an Engineer with Kodak. He wrote it and recorded ALL PARTS in his home basement! The only instrument he did not play was the drums. He also did not sing lead. Tom is also known for inventing many amazing guitar related effects, most notably the Scholz "Rockman". SUCH an amazing album, and band. Bravo on your pick!
I was just a kid. I remember laying on the speaker deck above the back seat in my parents cutlass supreme staring up at the night sky through the back glass, listening to this song. Tom Sholtz, the guitarist recorded this whole album in his basement in 1974, he revolutionized guitar effects and digital recording to this day, he graduated from MIT, HE IS A FREAKING GENIUS
Probably the best debut album ever made. Every song is good. The founder of the band is Tom Scholz (The Lead Guitarist) who is a Toledo Ohio Area Native but he was an Engineering Student at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) when he formed the band. He used recording and mixing equipment he built himself to record the album. He also developed the earliest form of wireless microphones and amps. Scholz is an engineering genius.
You are on a roll tonight another classic. Who else starts the day with music?? I get out of breath just listening to those note stretches. "I looked out this morning and the sun was gone - Turned on some music to start my day - I lost myself in a familiar song - I closed my eyes and I slipped away"
Absolutely! Another great line is: "So many people have come and gone, their faces fade as the years go by. Yet I still recall as I wander on, as clear as the sun in the summer sky". I think of all the people I've met since 1976....some of them becoming best friends that I had amazing times with.......and then it faded away and I have no idea what those folks are doing these days, or if they're even still alive. But the memories are still legendary!

FINALLY, More Than a Feeling!!!! TURN IT UP, UP, UP!!!!! I was just 11 when this came out. That was some primitive head banging there. Please check my comment to the Edmund Fitzgerald. Take it easy, brother. Donnie Iris, Ah Leah!!!!!!
Donnie Iris "Ah Leah" yes! I was on my daily 4 mile walk in the park on my phone with earphones on listening to random bands here on you tube a few days back. I was done listening to "Driver's Seat" By Sniff N The Tears (another great song BTW) scrolled down the page and Donnie Iris "Ah Leah" popped up. I hadn't heard that song in ages. Its one of the best songs that came out of the early New Wave movement! I highly recommend this song @Jamel_AKA_Jamal!
Brad Delp (R.I.P) was the sound of Boston. They now have 2 singers doing what Brad did, and it just doesn't measure up. Tom Shultz is the brain behind Boston. They have so many songs that are legendary. Thanks for the reaction. I always enjoy watching your reaction. I still think about the reaction you did for fooled around and fell in love by Elvin Bishop. That was classic.
I saw Boston in Greensboro NC on their first tour debuting THIS album!!! And yes, YES...I was rocking authentic late 1970âs attire with long blonde hair down to my assđ„âźïž đž
I had the honor of seeing Boston, all original members, back in the 90's. They were absolutely amazing. They didnt even have an opening act. It was just them from start to finish.
This is the edited single version-- leaves out the second verse-- "So many people have come & gone. Their faces fade as the years go by. Yet I still recall as I wander on as clear as the sun in the summer sky."
Yeah, I caught that as soon as I heard him sing "I see my Maryanne walking away". In the original chorus, he sustains the lower note rather than going up the way he does on the second chorus, featured on this version.
One of the GREATEST rock ballads of all time. Love this performance as well, they did an amazing job with it. In fact this is arguably the best album to start any artists career, as there are soooooo many great songs on this album. đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€
When you listen to this song you have to remember Tom Scholz recorded this in his basement. He played all the instruments but the drums and the only voice on the whole album is Brad Delp. What a genius Tom Scholz really is,AMAZING. Just so you know I am 54 and still have the hair đ
Thanks for that...I just lost my cousin up in Brooklyn...she was a nurse at a hospital up there....the Coronavirus took up....this song helped a lot. Thanks again.
I have seen Boston live many times. They are one of the few bands that can play each tune exactly as it sounds on the Record or CD. Few bands can do this, even some of the best of all time!
That's hilarious - when he was describing that, I could literally see myself walking through Target with this quietly playing over the speaker and out of nowhere erupting in an off-pitch "close my EYES!" meanwhile my wife is humiliated and walks 20 feet in front of me for the rest of the trip :)
Lol, i was watching a reccommended wwe video about the rock accepting john cenas tag team request, then after watching that, this was recommended, now i believe this comment is why.
Hair down below my shoulders, wearing turquoise choker and sporting a cowboy hat about the time this song was out. Always jeans and tee shirts though. :-)
Cutoff Levi's and white tube socks up to my knees in the summertime! As Archie and Edith Bunker famously sang.....those were the days! BTW, off topic but Carroll O'Connor as Archie Bunker and Jean Stapleton as Edith Bunker are the greatest TV characters of all time! They were brilliant together.
No one had heard guitar sound like this before "More Than A Feeling". From Wikipedia: "Scholz is an MIT-trained engineer who designed and built his own recording studio in an apartment basement in the early '70s. A rock fan throughout his teen years, Scholz began writing songs while earning his master's degree at MIT.[2] The first Boston album was mostly recorded in his basement studio, mostly using devices he designed and invented. After the success of Boston, he founded Scholz Research & Development, Inc. to develop and market his inventions, many under the Rockman brand. Scholz holds several patents[3] related to his work at SR&D over the years."
I have watched reaction vids before but yours is the best I have seen , seriously , I was pretty peeved off at what my government is doing and had a hard time to calm down till i started watching this and I cracked so hard . I'm feeling much better so thank you and stay well .
See...I know that particularly in the past live stuff tended to be sonically inferior....but personally I would always rather watch a live show....And yes I had the long hair and "big bells"....Now I wear a baseball cap to cover the bald spot...But I still love to rock!!...Man those vocals are just amazing!!!...Pretty much the definition of Classic Rock right there!!...Jamal...you are like a gift from God right now!!! Thankyou so much for all you are doing!!!...
Boston is my older brother's music. But he shared it and much else with me. And taught me how to fix 70's beater American cars. I took him to see Rush. He took me to see Van Halen. More Than A Feeling is a really special song.
When this song came out, I wasn't in the double digits yet. But me and my cousin would go into her teenage brother's room, put on the record, and get down with tennis rackets. We jammed so hard to boston. A lifetime ago, but just as vivid. â€
Anytime I wanted to really test a pair of speakers in a store in the â80âs, this was the tune. such range, you could hear the weakness in any thing it was played through. Great song an love Boston all these years later.
I saw them live on the "Don't Look Back" tour. It was 1978 or 1979. Sammy Hagar opened for them. He was the "Red Rocker" at the time. The ticket was $8.50 at the time. LOL! It's a different world now.
Dude it was my first concert also. 1978 Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis. Sammy Hagar opened had not heard of him! Sammy came out opened with "Red" I was blown away been a Sammy fan ever since! Boston was incredible that night as well! That was a ton of Rock n Roll for $8.50!!
Trivia: Tom Scholz was taking Engineering classes at the time and cobbled together a 12 track recorder in his basement from a bunch of 8 track cassette players. He did ALL the music on the first 2 albums with his friend Brad Delp doing vocals. And after they sent the 2nd album to the record label, the label called him and asked WHEN they were going to tour? *gulp* Brad and Tom VERY quickly assembled a band and had them learn Toms music. Crazy!
I was literally looking on your page earlier to see if you reacted to this song! I shoulda wished for a lotto win, but this is good enough for today! LOL
God Bless You, Jamel. Boston, I LOOOOOVE. More Than A Feeling is indeed my favorite by Boston and so is: Longtime Foreplay. Jamel, check out that guitarist standing by the drummer. He plucks that guitar like it's a toy. I watch this video often on On Demand. I love the exit of the guitars

Ah! Leah! YESSSSS!!
If Jamel hasn't listened to The Animals yet, I'll settle for him experiencing Donny Iris.
@@KK-ex5zu Love, Driver's Seat. Crank it up!!!
Love seeing another generation of people enjoying the music of my youth. Was lucky to see these guys in 1978 and 2001. Memories... RIP Brad Delp.
When a song can STILL give you goosebumps. The only thing this band did wrong was not getting the help the members desperately needed.
I saw Boston in Greensboro NC on their first tour debuting THIS album!!! And yes, YES...I was rocking authentic late 1970âs attire with long blonde hair down to my assđ„âźïž đž
Dude, you are picking some bangers today.
I've posted some things he'd love on a few past posts. I hope to see them!!!
All WEEK!
True fact: this band was so epic that they named a city after them.
I had the honor of seeing Boston, all original members, back in the 90's. They were absolutely amazing. They didnt even have an opening act. It was just them from start to finish.
This is the edited single version--
leaves out the second verse--
"So many people have come & gone.
Their faces fade as the years go by.
Yet I still recall as I wander on
as clear as the sun
in the summer sky."
I thought I was the only one. Yeah, not complete without the second verse before the instrumentals.
Didnât even catch that. Best part of the song.
That's funny because it took years to make this album, it took 8 more for the follow up album.
it didnt take 8yrs the follow up album was dont look back 1978 then third stage 1986
RIP Brad. His vocals were so so good. Made a 6 hr roadtrip to see them in concert. So worth it. Damn good show.
It is "classic rock." But, I would call Boston a genius level "power band." One of the very best.
yeah it's definitely the studio version showed with concert footage. one of the very best debut albums ever
Except this audio is a little warbly. Probably from a cassette tape. But still preferable to live audio from that time.
100% The studio version.
One of the most exquisite rock songs evah! Everything about this song is a true work of art.
Itâs UNBELIEVABLE how long he can hold those notes!!! Amazing!!! â€
When you listen to this song you have to remember Tom Scholz recorded this in his basement. He played all the instruments but the drums and the only voice on the whole album is Brad Delp. What a genius Tom Scholz really is,AMAZING. Just so you know I am 54 and still have the hair đ
And an MIT grad too.
@@palmsquad4 - All that and a VEGAN too!!!
Thanks for that...I just lost my cousin up in Brooklyn...she was a nurse at a hospital up there....the Coronavirus took up....this song helped a lot. Thanks again.
Douglas Cuffee sorry for your loss.
So sorry to hear that. I don't know you but hope you and your family peace.
Be well Doug.
Thanks all.
Prayers up đ
Every song you play reminds me of one day in my past I love the memories
"This song makes you feel like you can sing" yep! "then your lady looks at you and says don't do that" also yes.
Brad Delps vocal range is off the charts!
Brad Delp. One of the greatest vocalists in rock history. Pure power and control.
He has nice smooth vocals
Every song off Boston's first two records were played on the radio.
It's so sad to think that such a beautiful voice is forever silenced, and by his own hands...
I can hear this song a thousand times more than the thousands of times I've heard it, and STILL bring tears to my eyes
Brad Delp had the most amazing voice. There are some live clips on CZcams too. đâ€ïžđ€đž
This song was just another song that was a part of the soundtrack to my life, to OUR lives, those of us who lived through the 60's and 70's. . . .
I have seen Boston live many times. They are one of the few bands that can play each tune exactly as it sounds on the Record or CD. Few bands can do this, even some of the best of all time!
Boston's first album is a MUST HAVE for any lover of music. PERFECT is all that can be said for this album. From start to finish - amazing!
When this album was released I was sporting an Afro with metal pic in the back...lol
đđđđđđđ
Can't have the fro without the pick!
I was only 6 years old, when this song came out. Great group and song.
My favorite band of all time - my God the sound they had was unparalleled - you cannot listen to them and not be taken away!
When the 1st album came out, my first reaction was: "I never heard this quality sound" before.
The vocals never get old. Love this song Every.Time. !!!
I first heard this when it came out on 8-track in my brother's Mustang. RIP Sib and Brad. Boston will live forever.
"One of those songs that make you think you can sing" hahaha aint that the truth.
Stay safe, Stay healthy.
That's hilarious - when he was describing that, I could literally see myself walking through Target with this quietly playing over the speaker and out of nowhere erupting in an off-pitch "close my EYES!" meanwhile my wife is humiliated and walks 20 feet in front of me for the rest of the trip :)
I believe that drummer is Dwayne âThe Rockâ Johnsonâs father in law
He is. Sib Hashian. He passed away on a rock & roll cruise ship that he was performing on a couple of years ago. Great drummer.
@@vegasbeersales yes indeed that was the one and only John
Drummer is dead but yes
Lol, i was watching a reccommended wwe video about the rock accepting john cenas tag team request, then after watching that, this was recommended, now i believe this comment is why.
The caveman on drums...!
Rest in Peace Brad Delp! You will live in in our hearts forever. Thank you for your gift of beautiful songs. How can 17 people not like this?
Boston's smashing debut. There are no words.
Thank you for this one.
John Sanders I had a pair of yellow, bright yellow bell bottom pants that had HUGE bells on the bottom of them!!! I was so â far outâ!!!lol

More than feeling: " American anthem of the american society of the seventies"
I grow up to listen to the greatest bands of all time to many to name. Late 60's all the 70' and 80's.
Puffy Jo Thanks đđŸ
@@jamelakajamal you just made my day tyvm
A lifetime ago, but just as vivid. â€
I'm rockin the long wavy hair and with the stache and sideburns and I occasionally rock the colorful outfits and I'm only 20 years old
"This is one of those songs that makes you think you can sing." Funnyman.
@Debbie Gum In the future you will take voice lessons.
The 70's man. That's when music was GREAT. Will never be like that again I'm afraid. Got to see Boston 3 times in the 70's .
Boston is my definition of the quintessential 70's - 80's band. Pure musical genius!
I love the song 'The Man I'll Never Be'
Tom Scholz actually gave my youngest son one of his picks at a show a few years ago..
Nice, I wonder If I'll ever catch a Boston concert
Junior High and High School dances back in the mid 70's and 80's when I was young, this song was played often. đ
How do they even make that sound. In that year. Another artist from another planet.
I'm usually nodding/bopping my head to the beat. When they start that chorus...man
This song always takes me back in time and never fails to boost my mood when I hear it. Growing up in the 70s was the best đ¶đ
IKR, RIP Brad Delp, and RIP to my friend John B.
Anytime I wanted to really test a pair of speakers in a store in the â80âs, this was the tune. such range, you could hear the weakness in any thing it was played through. Great song an love Boston all these years later.
70s teen, bell bottoms, white, tight jeans, truckinâ felt shoes. Know every wordđ¶đđ¶đđ¶đ
I saw them live on the "Don't Look Back" tour. It was 1978 or 1979. Sammy Hagar opened for them. He was the "Red Rocker" at the time. The ticket was $8.50 at the time. LOL! It's a different world now.
I came along a little later, but my very first concert at age 15 was Boston on the Third Stage tour. Rupp Arena, Lexington, Kentucky, 1987.
This was my favorite song in high school. I miss those days.
Jamal, you're probably my son's age. Thanks for listening to my generations' music and appreciating it. Rock, Pop, Funk, soul.. the best ever.
LOL
gives me chills, what a voice, music is fantastic, brings back memories for međ
I grew up in this Era, the music was glorious. I heard this when I was in the Marine Corps, we were rocking this song.
One of the most underrated bands in history!!!! Great great great band!!!
God Bless You, Jamel.
Boston, I LOOOOOVE.
More Than A Feeling is indeed my favorite by Boston and so is:
Longtime Foreplay.
Jamel, check out that guitarist standing by the drummer. He plucks that guitar like it's a toy. I watch this video often on On Demand. I love the exit of the guitars
Brad Delp was a unique talent and he died alone in pain he couldn't console...Shameful when the brightest stars fade away in dissolution of life itself.
Peace Jamal. First concert I ever saw. 1978 at the Montreal Forum and I was 13 years old. If I am not mistaken this was the best or one of the best all-time selling debut albums of all time. I love all kinds off music but seeing these guys live was outstanding. They have remained my favorite group of all time . Gotta respect Sib's Fro, the best. RIP Brad you were the best and we still miss you and all your talent!!
It's so awesome watching you experiencing the music I grew up on. I always enjoy seeing a new generation enjoying great tunes!
