In this video, psychotherapist Georgia Dow delves into the story of Goldie in the movie "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish". Adopted by the three bears, Goldie struggles with perfectionism and the desire for a "real" family, which leads her to consider making a wish. Through examining various scenes in the movie, Georgia provides insights into the complexities of adoption, including the normal and healthy desire for adopted children to know their biological family. She also explores the themes of family, identity, and perspective, and how these factors can influence our choices and relationships. Whether you're a fan of Puss in Boots or simply interested in the complexities of adoption, this video offers valuable lessons on finding family, understanding identity, and gaining perspective.

There is a fun easter egg in Goldie's favorite book. In regards to her wish, if you use the first letter in each line, it spells out "You already have it". A bit poignant, since what see was looking for was always in front of her if knew how to open herself up to looking at the bigger picture.

it seems like the wishing star has a mind of its own, seeing as it nudges people to go through their demons and self reflect on the reasons they want to have the final wish, and even point out when they don't actually need the wish, kinda wholesme and feels like a therapist now that i think about it :)

When I saw this in the cinema two teenage girls were in front of us and during the scene where mama bear says “ If this is what will make you happy we will get you that wish” and she started crying with her friend and said “ She wants to make her happy even if she doesn’t get to stay as her family”
Mama bear’s love is so strong, it’s something we all want our mothers to be like. To genuinely love and care about us as an individual.

First off, your cosplay is amazing.
Secondly, one detail I noticed is that, at first, Goldi's colors really stand out from the bears. But as the movie goes on, her clothes get dirtier and dirtier, until, by the time she fully accepts the bears as her true family, they're completely brown. Just like their fur. It's a nice touch.

Something I like is how Goldie has a physical trait that she shares with a member of her family. She has her mum's earrings, her brothers necklace, and half way through the movie right after the failed bear trap (HA), she has a scar over her left eye like her father. (Her dress also turns from a vibrant blue to brown to resemble her family).

The scene with mama bear putting aside her feelings and deciding to help goldie with her wish anyways rips my heart out every time. This movie is so well-written, every character is actually a fully developed character, and you feel for every one of them (except jack horner lol) the empathy and selflessness of the bears, the love they so willingly give to their daughter is so beautiful and its a very healthy dynamic within an adoption situation (minus the crime). Theyre so supportive and loving and kind and they always resolve their conflicts in the end. And i appreciate the realness that it hurt when she said she wanted a real family, the true emotions of "i thought we would be enough" but despite the pain, they were happy to support her in her wish and help her find what she was looking for. Truly beautiful. I cry so hard through the entire movie every single time

Baby's dynamic with Goldie was interesting to me. I feel like despite his sometimes personal biting remarks, he does see and value Goldie as a sister. Ex. their building banter about Baby getting his own fancy purple suit. He's just also still trying to reconcile with the different ways their parents treat them and sometimes that irritation spills over into his interactions with Goldie.
Mama and Papa Bear do a good job shutting down his complaint that she isn't his sister, but also still side with her comments and plans more than they give him credit. Thankfully, by the end, that seems to be changing along with Goldie's perspective on her family and perfectionism. Shown when they actually support his idea of filling the vacuum left by Jack Horner.
The Bear family getting group therapy through the adventure was a great side plot.

One of my favorite details about Goldilocks is that her dress is blue with multicolored tassels until (I think) the final fight, at which point, it is actually brown... to more closely match the color of the bears' fur. So as a kid when the world told me I didn't have value, I already knew it was wrong. Because Family. Generally, people have the wrong idea about perfect. You Georgia, are an archer. The first time I shot a bow and arrow I got the bulls-eye. Dead center. What takes WORK is doing that CONSISTENTLY. So were there an urgent need to do it right, I'd happily pass the bow to you!

Was not expecting such a beautiful adoption/found family storyline when I brought my ticket for this one. In truth, my main reason for seeing it was knowing Florence Pugh was in it, and the Shrek/Puss thing helped, but my god...the emotional wallop that hit me when I realized that Goldie and the bears weren't just a side villain group but had their own emotional road....beautifully done. Kudos to all the filmmakers and actors (Pugh, Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Samson Kayo) for pulling this off.

I feel like Goldielocks and the "Three Bears Crime Family" got the short end of the stick... not in terms of film presence or their role therein, but fandom's reaction to them. People really latched on to how cool and badass the Wolf/El Lobo was or how unapologetically evil Jack Horner was, but I don't see many people talking about Goldie or her struggles... maybe it's because we're used to certain animated movies, particularly Disney movies, trying to give more depth and dimension to villains to the point of them not truly being villains anymore. While Goldie and her bear family are great characters who realized what they had all along, I guess people are already used to that being the "norm" for a lot of movies nowadays and thus they don't talk about the four of them as much, which is unfortunate.

An example is when godi admitted to wanted a family, the brother bear said "your just right is not having us as a family", its used as a negative way and other times they would say it beautifully (momma bear say everything was just right when godi broke into the home). For the other phrase, when godi and the brother were fighting, she said that phrase but in a very demanding and agressive way, but when godi saved her brothers life, she said it in a family and heartwarming way. The more i watch this, the cleverer the writing is

My son was adopted at an old enough age to know he was adopted and even had a scrapbook about his birth family and foster family. When things got dicey with the birth mom and later the father, we made a deliberate choice to trust what we had done to build a family. My son has lived both with his birth mom and birth father for a time. He stills talks to his birth father and calls him Dad, which is great, another person he can trust. He has no contact with his birth mom because she didn't understand that she needed to share my son with the other people he loved in order to keep him in her life. There is something freeing about saying we've done everything we can, now it's up to you, and we're always here when you need us. I no longer have any need to 'fix' him, just to love him and it has become a very strong relationship.

Ok, I'm totally bs when it comes Goldie, I just hated her the entire movie.
I knew right from the beginning that she wished she had a "real" family.
I am adopted too, and, yo be honest, I feel there is a HUGE difference between wanting to know more about your origins and outright wanting to replace your family.
That's why I despised her so much. I am adopted and love my family, I have felt like wanting to know more about my biological family, but never thought of replacing my parents or sisters.
And, man, I just hated how they treated Baby. It is abuse, the teasing much more than just fun. The family follows her orders, follows her wishes and even support her abiae towards baby.
Man, it even hurt more when Baby complained how she came and took his place, how ahe took his bed even. But, his feelings are never acknowledged nor he receives any kind of support.
This kind of reminds me of my situation with my older sisters. I stole the role of the baby in the family. However, my parents DID give them attention and support and also put limits to what they would do to satisfy my cravings.
And, no, she making a 180 at the end is not near enough.
This family just seemed disfuncional to me.
The parents having eyes only for one child, being dismissive of the other, forcing him to work for her sister, having little to no empathy for him, Goldie manipulating and tricking them.
Like, no, I just cannot say this dynamic or storyline was good in the movie, a movie that already had focus issues.

nailing the cosplay again, as always... and the insights..
can I toss you something different that you may have seen pop up all over the place? I would love your take on it...
Ren, Hi Ren... it's a song by Ren Gill (who goes just by Ren as an artist)...It's doing the rounds with reactors who are all really taken with it..the song talks about mental disorder and other such fun things and really resonates with those who struggle with mental health (but not just them).
I know, you tend to react to movies and shows.. but I think you really will find it interesting, if not to make a watchalong, at least for yourself... and I find that people who work in the mental health field offer several amazing insights in his lyrics.
An intro, to set the scene..
Ren is Welsh, 33yo, and has battled an undiagnosed crippling Lyme disease for about 8 years being fed pills for depression, chronic fatigue, bipolarism and what have you, until he finally got the right diagnose, by which time he developed brain damage, nerve damage and other such things... he received Stem Cell treatment in the US, and is now in Canada for further therapy and surgery.
at 17 he was signed by Sony, and subsequently dropped when the first signs of illness left him bedridden for 23 hours a day. Now he is independent and does his own thing.
He is also member of the band The Big Push, a small group of very talented musicians who are on hiatus because of his leave of absence.
He has a catalogue that goes from videos of him busking with his bandmates, to videos of him rapping, singing soulful songs, playing amazing guitare and much else... he touches on a bunch of musical genres.
Hi Ren is probably the most important song you will hear this year.
Be advised... as an artist, Ren is rather addictive and I have yet to find a single song that isn't either emotionally impactful, genius storytelling or amazing musicianship (or any combo of the above).
I shall spare you the fairly long list of other songs by him that are worth a watch (not just a listen.. his videography also deserves praise), but there are gems in there that are worth a Quentin Tarantino screenplay.

Eh I'll be honest this was the only part I didn't like about the movie cuz it felt too guilt trippy. The part where Perrito says "you won the orphan lottery" made my skin crawl. And baby bear constantly making fun of Goldie for being an orphan? I don't care for the people defending it in the comments. This just feels like another movie where the directors forget that adopted children aren't mythological creatures.

Would you consider reviewing reacting to the series The Chosen? It’s a Bible series based on the life of Jesus and his apostles. I know the show takes a few liberties and guesses that aren’t specific in the Bible. I would like to hear your thoughts on how they portray their versions of biblical figures like Mary Magdalene, Matthew, Peter, etc. There are also some other characters and themes I’d like to see you break down

I repeat what I keep saying about this storyline:I don't like how it was handled.X-( If this movie had no magic involved,it would make sense that Goldie had to settle with her adoptive family, but since she can obtain whatever she wants,WHY did they have to GUILT HER into not wishing her biological family back?!?I don't like this because this kind of storyline completely ignores her biological parents, basically asking us to take for granted that they were bad parents that abandoned her because they didn't care for her but the reality is that *we don't know if that's true!!* They might be loving parents that simply LOST HER or that gave her away because they had no means to feed her and they are devastated and constantly worried for her and constantly missing her or maybe they died of heartache and they never got to know if their precious baby was alive and well! I would have very much preferred Goldie to be able to wish them back and then having a big multispecies family because, guess what, getting her human parents back *doesn't mean she MUST abandon the bears...she could have them BOTH!* I like Goldie&the Bears as characters but, considering how they developed their storyline,I would have preferred they cut them out of the movie completely!>^< After all we didn't _need_ them to pass the message"you don't need magic to be happy"...we already had plenty of other characters for that!!We had Puss,we had Kitty,we had Perrito,we had Jack who didn't _deserve_ the wish...we didn't _need_ Goldie too!!>^
