Iceland volcano eruption: Lava flows onto roads, disrupting supply of hot water

  • A volcano in southwestern Iceland erupted on Thursday morning for the third time since December, pumping lava up to 80 metres into the air, and sending fast-moving lava onto roads toward Blue Lagoon.
The lava flow hit thermal-based water pipes in the region just south of the capital, disrupting the supply of hot water to more than 20,000 people and leading the Civil Protection Agency to raise its alert level.
The lava stream was now only about 1 km from the peninsula's Svartsengi geothermal power plant, said Rikke Pedersen, who heads the Nordic Volcanological Centre research group based in Reykjavik.

A Poilievre Conservative? Annual fossil fuel CO2 emissions are 100X larger than the CO2 emissions from volcanic eruptions. Volcanic emissions are part of earths natural carbon cycle. Digging up long buried hydrocarbons and burning them into the atmosphere at totally unsustainable levels - is not.
The largest ever study on carbon pricing proves that it works at lowering fossil fuel CO2 emissions growth levels. As Alberta economist Trevor Tombe has shown - axing the carbon tax would benefit the wealthy (surprise surprise.) Canadians who earn less than $250,000 per year - get more back in carbon rebates than they pay in carbon tax.

Not as much as you'd think, actually. When that huge eruption happened years ago that stopped all flights in western europe for weeks, it released a shitload of CO2. However, because it stopped so much air traffic, it actually saved about 10x as much CO2 coming out from all the planes. It was a big net benefit. Kinda whacky.

Just wondering when Trudeau is going to deem more carbon taxing necessary because of this
Edit. If global is trying to enhance the scariness of this situation with ominous music, it didn’t work on me

A Poilievre Conservative? Annual fossil fuel CO2 emissions are 100X larger than the CO2 emissions from volcanic eruptions.

@@garyhaggquist740 I’m on disability. The rebate ain’t nothing. I would rather axe the tax and lower the cost. It was cheaper on me. And by the way I don’t believe voting is going to be the ultimate solution. We have a corrupt system on a flawed foundation and until we actually fix the foundation of the problem we will see corruption continue

@@SaltyKitten77 Sorry you're on disability. The reality is - the carbon tax's contribution to inflation is .15% or virtually zero. Will Conservatives ever acknowledge that climate change is increasing costs and causing hardship for Canadians?

@@garyhaggquist740 I don’t know if they will or won’t. Will liberals admit taxing people isn’t going to stop climate change and that canadas contribution is so minimal that it won’t make a difference? Why impoverish people for something that is truly natural and if it is man made then look at what we can control. How about stop dumping raw sewage in waterways? Or spraying our skies with chemicals?
We need environmental policies to change more than taxing the average individual. The rich and so called elites don’t care because they are still jetting around claiming moral authority

Hopefully this is truthful. Global does a bad job of reporting the truth when it comes to Canadian events. Its mostly state agenda reporting.
