Wrong - this was not a pre-existing volcano. There has not been an eruption in this region in Iceland in 800 years.

This is such a pretty volcano! Some of them are so much uglier and messier when they erupt, like Mt. Saint Helens in the US (sorry, Loowit. You're pretty now, though).
