Those first 3 seconds alone, exactly why I adore the bassoon. The range, versatility . . colors!! If a soloist, yourself, Mr. Rønnes, can clearly play from the G4 to G5 fluently, with such ease-- How groundbreaking this would be in the context of a designated show-piece. I hope to someday play with the same ease. Thank you . . I am inspired.
much admiration from the UCLA bassoon studio! im curious, do you think anyone (perhaps Moosmann) will ever undertake designing an in-tune 4-octave instrument?

Thanks! When you say 4-octaves I assume you mean from the low contra B-flat up to the B-flat 4 octaves above that? Personally I'd love that! However I unfortunately don't think there will be an instrument with different keys all the way up to a B-flat; reason 1 being the B-flat tone hole would basically be where the bocal enters the instrument, so drilling there is problematic. Reason 2: since the bore of the instrument gets bigger when more holes are drilled, then the intonation is affected, and I somehow doubt anyone would redesign the entire instrument to make it all in tune. It's a massive job. But hey, I've been wrong tons of times, so I hope I am wrong again, fingers crossed 😃
