Norwegian Composer & Bassoonist.
My quest as a Bassoonist is to develop me and my instrument to further and yet undiscovered peaks, because for me the bassoon is still an instrument which is under development, not an instrument already consisting of compromises, for example regarding its technique, keys and range. As a performer and active music listener I find it very important to study and promote underestimated composers from all eras, and to let their music be heard instead of always performing the same basic repertoire which everyone else are doing.
FUTURE UPLOADS on this channel will be: my own compositions, arrangements, transcriptions and my own performances as a bassoonist, often with music written by not so often performed composers.

Very cool! Now let’s hear Free Bird.
Incredible playing! Sadly I won't get to see your performance at IDRS. Do you think you will take part next year? I'd love to see you perform in person and maybe even meet you.
Most likely I won't be there next year, but perhaps the year after that
Apart from the astonishing display of virtuosity this is also very helpful for anyone wanting to write for bassoon, because you can hear the complete range and judge perfectly where the instrument shines and where it strains.
Can’t wait to finally meet you! Nice! 👏👏👏🤘🤘🤘
Steve and Kristian in the same comment section, this must be a fever dream 😎👏! Cheers everyone, and excellent playing as usual Kristian!
Looking forward!
Impressing playing!
Almost no one writes works for bassoon
Then write something for bassoon.
Im sorry for ever touching a bassoon T_T
so, sqeaking in tune, got it
Nah I’m good gang
Wow, to play these massive jumps for bassoon is insane!! Congrats to you as an amazing arranger and bassoonist, I hope to play this someday!
"Stuff you will never need to do" (as free improvisers drool with hunger for more) Bravo!
Bravo Kristian! I use a Heckel…. 😂 nice video!
Bassoon workshop better located in Arlington Heights IL
I thought scientists had recently proven that you can't play this that well on the bassoon.
As technically and musically impressive as this is, it really demonstrates that this music was NOT written for the bassoon :)
Okay, it's official--bassoonists are the craziest musicians around.
You can count the frequency at this point...
Victor wooten of bassoon 😭
bro whoever put the treble clef change MID SONG is evil as hell
Very interesting piece with Indian character
I wonder if it’s possible to do the Dvorak cello concerto on the bassoon
i like your scarf. You look good
When do you breathe??
Before and after ;)
Stunning and Brave 😳🙀❤️
This is absolutely wonderful!
Pls help need tutorial
1:30 Do you think there are any C# - D trills using this alternate C#? That would come in handy for the Pierné C# D with the B appoggiatura
Hi. I’m also curious.
Hm.... I have strange feeling, that I have to pay for that info... 😅
Hahaha! Careful with what you wish for, I know where you live. I will find you and I will put a bill in your mailbox 😂 Nice to hear from you man, I hope you’re doing well!
@ I would love to pay that bill if I'll see you!!!!!! Welcome!)))
U should show how to do vibratos
In order to do vibrato you need to push more of less air out maybe open up your amboucher
What is your favorite note to play on a bassoon mine is G8
I’m trying to get to Ab 8
G8 for sure! Let us all know if you ever find the Ab8, Guinness World Records awaits you
@@BassoonBoy27 Proof?
@sorry when I was playing I realized I got a sharp G8 but now I need to figure out a fingering or a big change in embouchure in order to get an Ab8
One of favorite things when talking/working with a new bassoonist is the small little quirks they picked up that you never knew existed. Be it reed making/adjusting or fingerings. What a truly unique instrument. Thank you for these. A great yet humble gift, Kristian.
what a legend
Nice to be the first comment on the first short of this bassoon legend
I'm allergic to the sounds of string instruments. 😂 This sounds better
I was looking for some sort of indication on what speeds are possible for the bassoon (for composing) and this was very helpful. Thanks! :)
it seems to me that the coda of the Hungarian fantasy in tempo 210 is more difficult to play than this passage
You should make a video with helpful tips to reach all the high notes
czcams.com/video/3JqocSaArAg/video.htmlsi=oSEcHIyUROY94Mm3 If you can give me a little more background about the other 5 uses of Lithuanian songs. A composer D. Lapinskas mentioned that about 10 years ago. Unfortunately he has passed away.
Here are some examples, I'm sure there are even more hidden in there: 1) "Tu, mano seserėle" ("You, my sister") is the bassoon solo. Melody No. 157 from Juška’s Melodje ludowe litewskie. 2) "Kad aš ėjau per dvarą" ("When I walked across the yard") is at rehearsal mark 19. Melody No. 787 from Juška’s Melodje ludowe litewskie. 3) "Tėvužėli mano" ("Oh, my old father") starts 3 bars after rehearsal mark 37. Melody No. 142 from Juška’s Melodje ludowe litewskie. 4) "O kad aš buvau jaunas nevedęs" ("When I was young and not married") starts at rehearsal mark 48. Melody No. 249 from Juška’s Melodje ludowe litewskie.
@ That is a lot more than I expected. Are you doing original research? I have the three volume set of Juška’s ,,Svotbinės dainos and am having fun playing them on a piano. If you have any further information about who else did research on this topic, I would be very interested. My first piano teacher was someone for whom Kodaly, Bartok and other folk music researcher was a never ending topic. I will try to bring in another person in this discussion.
A good soul sent ne Lawrence Morton’s study ,,Footnotes to Stravinsky Studies: ‘Le Sacre du printemps’. Is this were you got your additional quotes. I am trying to do some detective work. By the way, the poem that Sacre is based on on is ???? Maybe you can fill in the question marks.
I hope you don’t mind, but here is a performance of the Lithuanian song.
sir you're good
I never new my smoke alarm beeped at Ab!
Sounds like a jackhammer.
Excellent video friend, I would like to ask you what you think or if you know the Venezuelan bassoonist Andrés Riera?
I know about him yes. We have not met in person yet, but we have been a bit in touch online. Seems like a great person! Is he your teacher?
@ Yes, he is my teacher
@@santiagovalenzuela6689 My best greetings!
I struggle with those on my clarinet ☠
I'm a self-taught composer and was wondering how fast the Bassoon can realistically be played for a piece I'm working on, so I literally found this video searching that. The answer is impressively fast and agile, much more than I even realized. Thanks for this video, I love the bassoon and you sound great! :)
your trill is the best, but my old Schreiber and Sohne bassoon give me true trill with H-hole covered, its tonally very good but sound a bit worse
Beethoven's manuscript is the equal to a doctor writing.
I was expecting to not even hear it. Lol
If you want to know how would it sound with the whole orchestra check it out on my yt channel. Thank you Kristian for rescuing this bassoon excerpt.
thanks for sharing - I like your nonchalance on the topic! :)
