    I live in London, one of the few that can literally say he's 10-15 minutes walking distance from the Buckingham Palace. Live in Victoria, Westminster, and can say that it has been the most unique and wonderful living experiences of my life. I've been all over globally, but no place have I ever felt, more connected, than in London. The only rub here is the subsequent affects from Brexit, COVID and the war in Europe, that is affecting all of us in London with the cost of living, lack of infrastructure, staff and supply issues.

    I've lived in London all my life, and as a teenager I love the freedom the amazing transport links provide. I can go anywhere in the city in an hour, at any time of the day. There's so much to see and do, so much to look at. You can tell how the city has been built up over hundreds of years; it just feels so organic, a feeling that no US city could match. When you wake up and hear the birds chirping in the trees from your window and when you go outside you see people walking, dressed for work or exercise, people jogging, kids playing in the park, some sat down for coffee etc.. it just feels soo alive in contrast to my hometown of 90k people where the streets seem silent during summer.

      Interesting video, for those romanticising London let me reveal some facts often overlooked (some were touched on);
      The video mentioned London was filthy. It still is filthy! When I used to work there I recall the stink in the morning in central LDN. The streets are grimy! Western Megacity wise, prob only NYC could challenge it for filth. The pollution is so bad they had to introduce a clean air zone! Plus charge a fortune in tax for drivers of most vehicles.
      The rent and house prices are insanely high & arguably unrealistic for single people wanting to live alone unless they have a high income. You don't get much space for your money either & could live significantly better in another UK city for the same price.
      Travel on the underground/metro costs a small fortune and if you work in central London, a large portion of your wages will be spent on your travel and housing. The metro system is outdated as it was built in the 19th century so is mainly cramped. At rush hour it is horrendous. It can be a lonely city too as people do not even want to make eye contact with you. If you go to other UK cities you'll notice they're more friendly than Londoners in general.
      The bus is cheaper than the underground but is slow & the traffic is terrible, it is hard to get anywhere quickly. They had to introduce a congestion charge to drive through central London & the zone has been expanding.
      The crime rate is relatively high. You should prob not walk alone in dark quiet areas alone. There have been several high-profile random murders of women. However, I guess it could be worse, given the size of the city.
      Empire city is a fitting title for the video as its wealth from the industrial revolution is a direct result of plundering and pillaging around the world, as most of Europe was overtly doing at that time & the legacy of that leads to the next point.
      Not to be all negative - the city is super diverse & you can find every type of person there largely due to its imperial empire past. Whatever you're into, you'll find it there & there's always something to do if you have money (or for free if you're imaginative enough)

    You missed two key points. One is the very unique jurisdiction that is the City of London Corporation. Granted by William the Conqueror, the City enjoys local sovereign rule and can exempt itself from acts of parliament. Financial regulation is often just a handshake agreement. It is the ultimate offshore location right in the middle of Greater London. The second is that London is literally the center of the world in that it has the lowest average air or sea mile distance to all other major cities on earth. Heathrow is therefore the most connected airport on the planet.

      I agree, although before flooding huge areas it’s worth remembering that the U.K. is the only nation on earth with an entirely privatised water system. Guaranteed profits for water companies disincentivises investment in infrastructure and has lead to billions of litres of water being lost each year, and mass dumping of raw sewage into water ways to cut costs. We need to establish public good instead of profit as the organising principle of our water system, and address the issues with our current infrastructure before flooding new lands.
