  • Shanna Adamic was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma that was pressing on her brain stem. This video chronicles her journey from being symptomatic, through diagnosis and treatment and finally recovery. It's a great story that might have turned out differently, had she not gotten a second opinion, which is such an important step and one that ANA recommends to all patients. Seeking a team of doctors with substantial experience treating acoustic neuroma was a critical part of a great outcome.

Thanks for sharing your story! I too have been diagnosed with a large acoustic neuroma, but unfortunately do not have the same support system. 😕 it's ok though, I'm a fighter 💪. My complete hearing is threatened due to being almost deaf in one ear, and now this ear...

Thank you for sharing. I was diagnosed with a large AN tumor in Jan 2022. I had my surgery Apr 2022 and recovering now. 96% of the tumor leaving a little against my brain stem. I lost my hearing on the effected size. My approach was the translabyrinthine approach. I was in the hospital 4 days! I am a career firefighter and am returning to work on limited/light duty this coming Monday! I have a follow up w my Dr coming up to discuss a BAHA device! My experience and support system was awesome! 3 fire department families and my close family w my wife taking care of me afterwards!! My surgery was at VCU Health in Richmond VA! 🤗🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Awesome, good to see you had successful treatment and recovery. im in the uk, suffer severe tinnitus, facial numbness bouts of vertigo and dizziness and balance problems I am also now recently diagnosed as deaf on the side of the tumour, all I hear on that side is a very loud whooshing with a high pitched whine and a bonging that repeats endlessly. I am told that surgery will be offered should it ever become life threatening.

Was great to see the post surgery pics and video walking, gives me at least an inkling of what to expect after tomorrows surgery, and that is huge (thank you). Been told I have a 50/50 Chance of losing my hearing so I’m expecting it. Hard to imagine going from how I feel today, Perfectly fine other than a bit of hearing loss to barely able to walk in a day. But hey, it has to come out. Surgery will be in Boston and I ready to be done and start my recovery. Wish me luck.

@@oliverv291 I consider it a success, they got 100% of the tumor, I am now 4 weeks post and able to walk 3-4 miles unassisted. Lost my hearing in that one ear and have some minor facial paralysis which seems to be gradually fading. Dry eye is most difficult part of the facial nerve issues. Still a bit of dizziness but hoping the vestibular PT can help with that.

I was not expecting such a large scar for her from a translab approach, I wonder though why she did not have a brain surgeon as part of the team considering the brain stem indentation. I am having my 3rd brain surgery in a few weeks and translab also, but expecting 1/2 the size scar. Glad she is ok.

This is so inspiring. I too have been diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma and am awaiting a surgery date. I'm in limbo land at the minute and having all the same symptoms as you had especially the fatigue and dizziness. Im hoping this goes away or at least reduces after surgery, im 40, but feel about 70 most days lol. Hope you are back to yourself now x

Why the fatigue? I have some dizziness but a lot of tinnitus & hissing. Really can't stand this.
Where in Chicago did you receive surgery?
