Plenty of potential left in that truck! All in favour of resurrection, would make a good second video too! Thank you as always, great to go on a virtual car explore with you.
One of my favourite parts of this channel is that nothing seems to faze you in terms of buying certain cars which might have known faults, I.e Navaras snapping chassis, Jaguars snapping crank shafts, BMW’s and their timing chains. I could never buy any of the above cars for this reasons but I admire that you can and it doesn’t bother you at all - ultimately it’s a better outlook!
Thanks! If I were put off by common issues then I wouldn’t buy anything ever
@@HighPeakAutos After all many issues are common only because the car is popular.
@@Mietas2 exactly just like the BMW timing chains it only affected less then 2% of cars but because it is so popular people think it’s common for chain to fail.
Er, chassis comment was said in fun, there are one or two Toyotas here when similar problem! But that was criticised, and yet my point of it going to Ukraine to me was the most important and not mentioned…
From what I remember the issue with the Navara was down to incorrect settings on welding machines so once that was sorted they were OK
Bought a '57 Navara (92k) last year as a farm runaround - has been very good so far. Gets used several times a days - even does the odd long motorway journey. Interestingly I've had the same issue with the driver's door only opening from the outside. Found that the same locks have been used front and back and the child lock had slipped on. The lock can be accessed (without removing the door card) by removing the 3 bolts along the door edge and pivoting the lock until you can flick the child lock off with a screwdriver. A more permanent fix might be to put a self-tapper in there to stop it slipping again.
“What can go wrong?” got to admire your optimism 🤣👍
Hi Matt, really enjoying your videos recently, so you've gained another sub!
One little tip: When viewing a car, I always lift the bonnet and check the level of oil on the dipstick, and cleanliness inside the oil filler cap, before starting the engine for the first time.
This is the best format, just you and the camera, it just feels like we are there with you 👍🏻
£1500 is fine for that - I was wondering at the start how you got it so cheap until I saw the damage. The fact it has a new rear bed quarter in the back is prime!
If the ABS light is on with "nearly no symptoms" then I'd check the following:
The breaklight switch.
The sensors of the wheels for whether they are rolling.
or the wheel bearing falling off, the noisy one he mentioned...
That’s a bargain ,when you look at van prices at the moment. Would love to see what you do with this ,if dad can work his magic.
Great content on the channel, well done👏👏
Another great video, can't wait to see what you've done with it ....also the pack horse pub is lovely the food is amazing 😁
Always liked the look of the Navarra. When you mentioned how easy it was to drive it reminded me a guy that I used to encounter on the A41 around 5am every Monday morning. He used to fly down that road like he was driving a Focus RS 😧. I thought they were slow and cumbersome, but he proved otherwise.
I has to drive a Chevy Colorado a few years back. It was the one that's the same as the Isuzu D-Max rather than the US version which is bigger. That went a lot faster than I imagined. Obviously a heavier load would effect it.
They are slow and cumbersome, he didn't prove otherwise you just think that.
@@Storm.Z.4u the speed was flying down that road gave me the impression it wasn’t, even if indeed it is 😀
@@Storm.Z.4u people are entitled to say what they want without petty criticism. You must have something better to do, like making sure your comments are without fault thus avoid being a hypocrite.
@@Storm.Z.4u Disagree - I own a newer 3.0L variant of this truck - on performance touring tyres it'll break 8 seconds 0-60 and is surprisingly chuckable with progressive steering and overall good feedback (despite some vagueness at times) the steering overall is light but weighting up nicely in the corners - it puts most medium to large size crossovers I've driven to shame. The model I have also has transmission/electronics based off the 370Z so is reasonably responsive with again nice progressive power delivery and fast smooth gear changes. The only thing in that respect which is lacking is the ride quality which partly thanks to the rear leaf springs is more akin to a 90s era 4x4. Even the 2.5L variant isn't terrible though the engine is far more industrial like rattly diesel compared to the 3.0 and a bit more jerky in comparison - though pretty strong if you need a workhorse for towing, etc.
That said given it is over 2tons of truck needs a lot of responsibility to drive in any kind of spirited fashion and I certainly don't rag it around the road.
I'm quite curious to get a Part 2 for this truck. It looks like it's a fairly well maintained work-horse, and vehicles like that tend to give fairly good service. Plus inside it looks really nice; spacious, comfortable, well equipped. The lockable bed cover is practical... If that quarter panel could be repaired, it looks like a really useful vehicle to have around.
Wondered when you would get to the 2 piece chassis issue! First thing that went through my mind when you were looking at all the rust. Shame because these are great looking trucks.
Another marvellous video Matt. I do enjoy these pop,up “I bought another lump of ****” very watchable 👌👏
Hello Matt , another excellent video.
Well said about death warnings re the hot weather.
I was born in 1966
1976 was hot, we just got on with it!!!
Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged
Thanks again for the upload hope u and the family is all well
Do a crossover episode with Salvage rebuilds to repair the truck.
Great idea!
Matt don't you ever stop you are renovating a house plus your car business and blogs ! You make me smile 😃 ! But fair play !!
Nice truck apart from the rear quarter as you said. Heard the rattle as soon as you started it. You got lucky with the new quarter in the back. Once it's all fixed someone will get a good truck no doubt.
Hi Matt, great video I love these cheap gems you keep picking up! On the mileage discrepancy could it be related to the number plate being changed? Does the car vertical check/mot history follow the plate rather than the car? So it’s picking up the history of the vehicle previously registered to the plate? Just a thought!
You are correct Tom. Same issue happened with my car with plates transferred from one car to the other.
"Doesn't quite close, does it." Love the stoicism. Hilarious
😂
Alsoo great content Matt. Looking forward for a 2nd video of the Navara
Ones like this would deffo be worthy of a follow-up. I know that's wandering off of what you normally do (time to record, edit etc), but the odd interesting one that needs some work might be good to see a follow up video on - not everything, as that's another full time job !
Great buy... Keep it... Bashed old trucks are cool 😎👍
@High Peak Autos I’ve been watching your video uploads for many months now and I must say how impressed I am with your presentation mate. I particularly enjoyed this video. I’ve love this spec of Navara, but agree with others there should have been a part two!
So did you keep the truck or was it destined for just tip runs? Keep up the good work mate - I know where to come if I need a bargain car!
That's a handy thing to keep about, fix the rear end, make sure the chassis isn't made of dust and has been plated, and it's a daily beater for you. They tow quite well too.
Cost a absolute fortune to run and tax do these
Heard about some of these Navarra’s been recalled for rust a few years ago as the structural frame snaps the rear end from the front.
they all got recalled, we [as dealers] had to decide whether it was scrapped, sent back to spain to get chassis nailed back together, or thick underseal put on. a few got kicked out of the claim altogether, those are the dangerous buys...
hi matt
love the channel
i often wonder what happens to the cars after you fix em up
do you sell them for what you say you mite get ?
would it be an idea to say have a recap on the car after to tell us what happened ?
He's got a car dealership and he sells them.
Another good episode look forward to the update ....😃
I had a good experience with my last D40 and watching your video of the interior reminds me of how many practical features got missed out when they moved to the NP300. My NP300 is a great driver though and will give me almost 50mpg on the motorway but I - like many others - do miss the rugged, agricultural, Tonka toy that was the D40.
I've been holding on to my D40 Navara as long as I can but it is getting costly now. I have the 3.0L Outlaw model - such a vastly underestimated truck.
@@Rroff2 Decent power and a 7 speed box. Just add a DAB radio and I would say that would be the perfect truck - they are still fetching £15k with low miles. If they weren't so expensive I would love to run a cheap commuter and have an outlaw as a lifestyle vehicle.
@@jjs3287 That is what I'm doing now with the high fuel prices - but the Outlaw is starting to get costly - just had to drop a grand on replacing intercooler and some other bits to keep it running and is going to need chassis treatment to last longer term.
They are such great trucks though when in good running order.
We need an update video on this one, especially the damage.
Good buy if you can deal with a few things falling off. My friend has a minivan and he picked me up to go somewhere. I get in and shut the door, we heard something... it was the logo on the driveway that fell. My friend said the plastic assembly on the mirror also fell off. It was well maintained.
Hi Matt, great channel. What a bargain. Here in Australia, that’s a $15k Ute all day long. I used to have a D40, best car I ever had. As long as the timing chain is done, they go for ever. Plenty here with 400k and years left in them. Loads on the road here so parts a dirt cheap, just the actual Ute that’s expensive. You could get the proper wheels and the whole rear tub for a few hundred dollars. Never saw anybody do a rear quarter on a Ute tub, cheaper to swap the whole thing here. Hope it give you years of service.
My daughter got a navvy in august 18 when she moved outback for work,a manual 2.5,07 diesel from a dealer for 12500 $ ,clutch went but the warranty covered half the cost, she went back to the city for work and sold it on gumtree for 11800 six months ago,it was very reliable while she had it.
15k for a damaged 2006 Navara in Australia stop smoking that funny weed its fogging your brain
Great video once again 👍🏼😁
I had two of these new when they first come out , In 2005 I had a 55 plate outlaw and then a couple of year after upgraded to the spec Adventura , they was the GTI of pickups when they first came out , think I still have a video on my channel of mine doing near 130mph when new , I found Nissan terrible for customer service for warranty work ,put me off for life tbf , but the D40 wasn't a bad truck overall .
Great video as per 👍🏻
Ha Matt! Loved the irony of recommending a Car Vertical check in order to avoid buying a vehicle which has been involved in an accident. Presumably only works if you do the check before you buy the vehicle.
Yes that’s right!
I think you did well with the pickup can't say the same about the new hair do🤣🤣
My dad had one of those new in 2006 i absolutely loved it. I thought it was the best thing ever. It was constantly broken down though.
Matt, I wonder whether the previous owner bought the panels thinking it would be quick repair. The rear tub looks to be pushed back on that N/S 1/4 so I wonder if your going to find more damage and the reason he gave up on it and unloaded it. Good luck!!!
Love mine. Good drive & never has an issue.
If this goes to raffle.. I'm in! There has always been something about the Navara that catches your eye Nissan done well with the design (in terms of looks.. not chassis structure 😂)
I think I would look at sourcing a whole used rear tub, with the damage to one side and the rust on the other be easier to make a good job replacing the whole thing. Might even get lucky and find one in the correct colour.
Lovin' your work, keep it up!
Get real, it's a cheap 🐖 no point spending loads on it, as it will then just be an expensive 🐖
@@Storm.Z.4u seems decent apart from the damage, £4-500 for a replacement would still leave some room for profit, at the moment probably only worth what he paid for it.
Follow-up video please! Would be really interested to see how you turn this around and for how much
Definitely a few memorable 'highlights' from that video!
As always, top video Matt. Keep them coming and if your local tip is anything like mine, you need to donate a kidney in return for a 3 minute window per decade, if you dare turn up in a pick up!
I started buying cars again with my partner. Forgot some advice now we have 6 cars and my neighbours think I'm a car dealer. However 3 series convertibles at this time of year have been brilliant.
I have something to look for that's probably not mentioned on car vertical. The boost control valve can fail causing the boost to be on all the time. This wears the thrust bearing in the turbo.
I used to work freelance as a civil engineer. I picked up some work on a wind turbine station atop the Pennines near Bacup. They gave me the use of a Navarra on the Moor top site that had some pretty rough ground to cover.
It was a few years back and very hot at the time. I'd never driven a Navarra but was really impressed.
The AC was heaven. The traction on wet, slippery mud superb and the comfort level, a dream.
Why do people even bother with Land Rovers???
You will not understand unless you drive a Range Rover, the proper ones. Why they’re the best car in the world. IMO.
@@cb3580 Give me an example of a proper one?
@@vemundr9263 I mean a full size Range Rover. The “proper ones” not the Range Rover sport. The “proper one” being the L405 onwards.
@@cb3580 Didn't expect such a fast response, thanks, I generally delete my comments afterwards. But do tell, what makes it as others put it. The best car in the world? Ride quality? Power? Never been in one so I can't fathom and I'm thinking in a few years when I'm set up enough to buy either a Cayenne, Touareg but thinking of also a Rover
@@vemundr9263 not a problem good sir. In my opinion they’re the best cars in the world due to a focus on luxury and the new onboard technology. Plus the latest Land Rover engineering means that it feels extremely capable even off-road. Strong engine line ups and it has a 7 seats available if needed.
We have weather warnings here in the Netherlands which usually mean nothing. But today its nearing 40c so i think i'll just stay indoors. Btw once worked in Kuwait with temperatues above 50c and no airco, now that's warm .
Orsm content Matt ...loving the hair, are you the the 3rd Bross brother ?? ...just joking ... thank you for another brilliant vlog ..Jonny Reyn :-)
My one is also 2006. Had her from new. Been a absolutely brilliant vehicle. Service each year and no other parts replaced except battery and tyres.
What's the mileage now? You should consider changing the timing chain though.
Rocking the Jedward look 👍
Dude you should really consider doing a under £5, £10, £15 grand series. Ie great cars for under £10 k etc. Keep up the great content dude. 👍🏻
That’s a win brother !!
I lived in Canada I had a Ford 150 Lareat ?? fully loaded. loved it
The crazy rays from that 37* UK sunshine make your hair look strawberry blonde, amazing!😉😁
I wish you would keep doing the “few weeks later” and show us the finished article and what you made from the sale. Good video tho.
I’ve got a 2009 one that I use a couple of times a year. Kicking out black smoke now and then is normal on these and wheel bearing need a whole hub replacement. I love autos although not in a workhorse like this, but at least yours is working well.
So much about the Navara but so little about the funky hair! Either way, great video as usual.
The best vehicle I’ve ever had. Loved my navara double cab.
It’s probably an adventura edition not techna. I Had the full canopy on the back in drug dealer black. I covered 234k in 7 years still on the same clutch/ engine/ gearbox. Only issues over the time were the electrical gremlins, sat nav faults air bag warning light , 👍👍👍
Best you've ever had, speaks volumes about the other vehicles you've had.
@@Storm.Z.4u yes it does B. I’ve not been blessed with huge pool to choose from as a works vehicle, but against the Mitsubishi l200 the first edition of the Ford ranger, it was head and shoulders above the rest. And with no benefit in kind to the tax man it’s still a commercial vehicle no added cost to me, so why wouldn’t I love a 4x4 with leather , sat nav , a/c heated seats ect ect kids and family all fit in great for European holiday trips room in the rear pickup compartment and not pay for the weekend diesel , win win I’d say.
@@keithmyerscough9900 You can buy yourself a car you know, you don't have to rely on the charity of others.
@@Storm.Z.4u give your head a shake. Company vehicles goes with a lot of professional trades. Perks of the job. Just I’m not Mondeo man.
I think you’ve done alright there with regards to the ABS it could be a cracked censor ring as I had this problem and had to weld it up so I suggest you check all A B S rings for a possible crack at the moment I’m looking for Toyota Hilux as I was a bit wary of the Nissan Navara because of the rot in the chassis and also they stop making them so I think is Toyota has got the edge
I lived In Thailand for 16 years, Thailand is the land of pickups! I had a great mechanic named Pan who had previously worked in R&D for Mazda in Australia and had retired to his home country of Thailand and opened a garage, he worked on cars for the love of the job. Anyway, nobody knows more about pickups than Pan, and I asked him which was the best Pickup, expecting him to say Toyota Hilux or Ford/Mazda Ranger, he surprised me by saying Nissan Navara and went on to explain all the reasons why.
yes. it is. :)
Curious to know the reason why. I'm thinking of buying one for farm use it would really help to know its pros & cons
@@boblion4186 Hi bob, it was a few years ago and I can’t really remember all the reasons but he certainly rated the engine, the build quality and the reliability. I’m not sure if Navara in Thailand is the same vehicle as Navara in other markets, I say this because now I am living in Europe and Nissan vehicles here seem to be very different from the Nissan vehicles in Thailand.
@@andrewstones2921 thanks Andrew that's still helpful & a confidence booster
Have a friend who before retirement used to sell old 4x4 to a chap from Kenya, an old dog over here was luxury motoring for them.

Loving the new ‘do’
i just love the look of these pick up's like you say with a little bit of TLC for the money paid it would make a useful workhorse
Great Vid Matt. Love the new series of cheap vehicles. Can I ask what insurance you have that enables you to jump into any vehicle and drive. Sorry if this is the wrong platform for such a question. I know you do your Q&A vids but I'm not sure how to submit questions. Thanks again.

You can get two used rear panels from ebay or any scrap yard and slap them on, service, clean up... it will be good to go👍🏻 it's a good vehicle
Good bargain ,think you need to check that tub is square, judging cab tub gap on damaged side repair panels are weld bonded.Think best option would be used tub in same colour and you could pick up wings and wheels plenty in breakers that slit chassis’s.
Its going to look so much better when rear quarter done - good vehicle for jobbing builder
This is a rugged pick-up that has been through hell & back! The private number plate should fetch some £499 there or thereabouts 👍 another great video 👏
I guess it is different in the UK. How on earth can a plate be worth anything? Can you explain?
Your idea for using it as a tip and general runaround is the best idea then when your done and plate is sold you will still make a profit.
I have driven one of these things 1000s km round South America. They are pretty grim to drive in my experience but are tough enough to deal with long distances on awful roads.
That number plate would probably sell well in Prestwick, Scotland!
I have had one of these for 12 years from new and it's the best pickup i have ever owned.....and that includes the Hilux i had before! Mine is the Long Way Down model and that came with leather.Shame they have problems with the chassis breaking in half !
Perfect winter beater
Hopefully 2nd part of this video is coming in the near future, so we know what happened with it and what it looks like after you put some money in it.

Keep us updated with what do with it 👍🏼
love the new " Hair Do " Matt i guess we,ll be seeing you hanging around Canal st in the village .... PLEASE ONLY JOKING
Don't forget pick up trucks are usually considered as commercial vehicles, so tip runs might need a permit! Excellent video though.
Great vid as usual, did you have your hair dyed so you can fit in with that 1D groupie look? 😂
The door handles look the same as in the Qashqai well known for breaking, cost about £12 for a pair!!! takes about ten mins to change both.
cool video. Would have been ideal for me as i drive back over to Ukraine next month, i was there March helping animals, care and aid they needed. In my old mid 90s Pajero.
Pre 2010 Navara the chassis rotted through behind cab some rotted in half omg. Nissan bought loads back to support the brand... Good luck.
It'll polish out mate!
You want another one? 2012 king cab. South based. Went in for chassis check.
Nice truck mate
While I understand where you’re coming from, for our elderly cooped up in 50s,60s,70s built houses that are designed to retain heat rather than disperse it, and the fact most don’t have air conditioning is what gives this heatwave it’s risk to life, it really only matters to the health and social care sector. It’s less about the general population, more to remind us to check on our elderly relatives and neighbours. A bottle of water can be the difference between life and death.
people who are relatively young can definitely cope with the heat more easily, I guess most of the deaths caused by the heatwave are elderly people or people with health conditions that make them more vulnerable to the higher temperatures. I've never experienced temperatures north of 30C myself, but I'm sure It's no joke if you don't have AC or can't go to the beach.
Lighten up, it was a throw away remark, its a car video not "social care today"!!
Folk have gone soft...
I had one from new with problems going in and out of 4 wheel drive … good luck
What in the Duke Nukem kind of haircut is this?
🤣
Navara snapped chassis syndrome! Mine was a 2006, served us well. Great vehicle until a fateful MOT in about 2016 where significant corrosion was picked up and rot in the rear section of the chassis frame. Close to snapping. Nissan only informed us after our 10 warranty had expired and which was kind of them.
Bought a reinforcing kit that a similar navara owner had designed. Faced with losing the truck completely i.e. a write off, a mate and I took the tub off and he painstakingly, removed bad and re-welded attaching this kit. Then passed an MOT. Sent it through a well known car purchasing brand eventually. Few other spurious issues too, off the road now I believe.
"it's Japanese" lol.....I doubt much of that vehicle ever saw the land of the rising sun. Glad you added in about the cracking chassis problems....
That bodywork damage is nothing, we used to have a 2007 Nissan Xtrail, which had a 2 inch deep dent running the whole way down the passenger side where it had been scraped across a rock. It looked utterly horrendous as it began to rust quite badly.
Nice to see the Range Rover getting used again. If you’re planning on using the truck do the tip runs ? You may want to check if your local council have the same system we have down here in Kent where by you have to have vouchers for when you go to the tip in a truck. It apparently is meant to deter building firms from abusing the system or something like that ? Not sure but flaming annoying 🤯
Will the real slim shady please stand up.
