"I'm Gonna Kick His @$$" đłđŹ (#84)
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 8. 10. 2021
- One day, we decided to take a nice little trip to the Yoruba and Pidgin speaking market of Lagos, and were offered everything from traditional Nigerian clothing like kaftans and ankaras to a unique method of "male enhancement". We also discovered a common way that Nigerians resolve disputes.

Big advise: Never stand to watch people fighting, so you don't get robbed by pickpockets while you are carried away watching the fight.
it works everywhere like thisđ
I would never watch fights in Africa or South America, I would just be scared to be accused of something I didnt do and get lynched and set on fire.
@@pmbbmp Yea if you can get pick pocketed while watching a fight it can happen anywhere else too lol
That's what I thought.. You just protect your woman and get away from it.. When it get volatile as a westerner your a target for theives.. You should never do what they did on here.. Not just pickpockets you can get mugged in the commotion..
Use a wallet chain, like an american biker.

Great bargaining skills Tommy

Right! Lol The textile he brought was sold at a great price. My mother who is a native has bought textiles at a higher price.
I would survive about 5 minutes in that society, your openness and ability to communicate and adapt in environments is inspiring.
It's a good way for ppl who aren't good in busy social settings to get over any anxiety or nervousness they may have around this ... It's like diving strait into the deep end but obv Tommy is a natural and/or he's travelled around enough to be used to it all and now is second nature which is how I feel ... I get harassed wayyyyy less because I am Pakistani-American and tho I was born and raised not far from long island where Tommy is from, they see me as Pakistani/south Asian and dont have western equivalent funds and resources which is great .. they move onto next white man lol
You beat me, I wouldnt even go in the first place

Chibo is the star of this episode. He spoke very good English for a market tout and he actually said "you are with me". That was a great assurance
I do not give a darn if this white boy gets ripped off. These people have messed over so many people. Dam his white ass.

@@SL-pg4dh Yoruba, just like Mandarin and Cantonese, is heavy on the tone. Tone is very important in the language. A single word can mean several different things depending on the tone used. Hence the original comment.

Very true!!!
I'm a Nigerian all my life i still can't speak shvt
Man I'm impressed with the effort you put into learning the language.... good for you
How's his Nigerian? When he speaks Spanish, he sounds like a straight up Argentinean. It's impressive if he's a white American who didn't take Spanish lessons in school. Even if he did take Spanish lessons, he speaks it with an Argentinean accent that wouldn't be taught in America. I'm American with Hispanic parents that only speak Spanish and his Spanish might even be better than mine!

I'm learning Spanish now- Tommy used the immersion method- like an actor staying in character.

I love this guy. He learned the local language to adapt to the local environment. With that, he can not be cheated by the locals.
He is a wise guy.
You will always be cheated by the locals. But thatâs part of being a tourist. A little bit is like a tip the way I see it. In my experience, if you haggle too hard someone will outright rob you. If you donât haggle enough they will outright rob you. Itâs a line you have to be aware of. When I was in the navy I found it was better it pay a guide his wage. He will save you many times over just in the safety dept.
He actually did really well. I thought he would be cheated a lot more. Kudos to him for being a sharp guy.
I need 10 hours of sleep right now. I'm exhausted just from watching.
Looking fly Tommy! Miss Josey is stunning. More please.
The way chibo was making sure you guys were secure is honestly insane. Good intentions love seeing that. Love your content.
The other guy talking to chiboy was just joking with him it's a normal thing.
the way he makes him beleive he was in danger was effectively insane . just another to take more money .
Shout-out to the security guard who didn't want a cash gift for doing his job. That's a rarity
Rule number one: Whenever you meet a merchant in Nigeria, don't assume that they understand or speak Yoruba. Most of the merchants in Nigeria are Igbos and they do not speak Yoruba. For instance, at 18:03 he ignored your comment, because he doesn't speak Yoruba.

This is some awesome Schiff! Well done.
Wow it's very hectic, well done, I hate markets especially in the heat. The worst was in Morocco, they follow you absolutely everywhere and will not leave you alone until you shout at them. Markets in China are also very aggressive with foreigners.
China is well protected by the police, Morocco on the other hand...
@@vojvoda-draza It's true, but china police hate foreigners so it's not good either ! I see that on a documentary about the biggest china market and if you have any problem it's always the fault of the stranger..
Nigerian sellers are aggressive with everybody. Even the average Nigerian is tired of Nigerian sellers
@@Peterjev6 Not exactly the seller, those people following you around aren't the seller, they're meant to direct you to their shops, if you follow them just know price of things will be tripled cos they will get their pay,so it's better to just ignore them, i know it can be tough though.
I experienced that in Morocco. Not pleasant. This one has some humor and banter to it so if you can play the game you might be OK. Helps to have someone from the area with you.

Aggressiveness is a way of life in Nigerian market. They don't find that offensive, and they don't even notice they are being aggressive to foreigners who aren't used to such lifestyle, so to adapt you have to be aggressive too. Love the way you reacted to the woman who pulled you aggressively for holding a camera.

Thats just dumb... Aggressive is aggressive no matter what. You cant excuse that type of behaviour.
He's just seen as food it is what it is. In America they ain't selling shit in the ghetto but drugs and its 50-50 your getting robbed if your not from there especially if your not a local white. One thing people have to contend with in markets like that is continues grabbing of the hand by vendors. Vendors grab your hand to get you to come buy their merchandise, you might have to be a little aggressive to get some of them off you. Itâs even worse with ladies.
