Episode 56 - This time were focusing on games made in the UK, Canada, US and all other western regions. Get comfy. Check out the Game Sack Episode Guide! www.gamesack.net
I've read an interview with one of the developers of Batman Forever. They originally wanted to make a traditional platformer, but the publisher wrote to Probe that Mortal Kombat was really popular, so why not make Batman Forever a Mortal Kombat-style Beat'em up?! They didn't have a lot of time left and the game was arleady in the middle of development, so it's no wonder it ended up like it did...
Should have just let them stick to the platformer, probably would have turned out a lot better. You can't out Mortal Kombat Mortal Kombat. That's the problem with trying to just copy some other game.
Secret of Evermore was the only game developed solely in the USA by Square. Surprisingly it wasn't released in Japan, unlike Secret of Mana a few years later. That game shines as a western RPG.
Which platforms can I play Dave White Forever on? The game play and digitised graphics look so awesome! I'm also curious on how many MEGA POWER it consists of?!?!
It's good to see that Joe appreciates EWJ2 on the Saturn like I do. The discussion came up on Sega-16, and there were several people that thought quite the opposite.
I'm also not big into FPS´s but Powerslave/Exhumed was probably the best i've ever played and one of the best games ever in general. The music is far from just fitting, it's amazing, exquisite, it creates the ambiance and it really immerses you in the game. One of the most underrated games ever!
Oh man guys! That mocap video at the end was awesome! I tried to comment on your FMV video, but couldn't for some reason. That was BY FAR the best imitation of a Sega CD game I've ever seen. Great job coding and writing the disc, guys!
Well done, guys. The episodes just keep getting better. I was surprised you didn't cover Secret of Evermore. IT was a huge deal that it was developed by Squaresoft USA back in the day - their one and only game. It's an interesting piece of 16-bit history.
I hold the Oddworld series in pretty much the highest regard I can possibly muster in terms of western development, especially pertaining to the first two games: Abe's Oddyssey and Abe's Exodus. The level of atmosphere and somewhat dark humor really blends well here.
I can't believe how good you guys are getting with each edition of Game Sack :D A lot of memories from years ago mixed with great recommendations on great tames. I'll be checking out burnout paradise since I love games like Trackmania.
I must say that it's really great of you guys to go above and beyond by showing gameplay for the same game across all the consoles you have access to. And even in the same section!(well...as close as possible in some cases) That really helps show the subtle differences in some cases. Many times, it shows how little difference there is visually, though.(atleast, to my untrained eye) Keep up the good job.
All your videos are pretty good and well made. I sensed a level of sarcasm in some of them which got me interested and gave me a laugh. Tat sort of sarcasm which takes a sharp wit to understand. Anyway, keep em coming!
thank you guys for doing earthworm jim 1 and 2 some justice. great job with the side by side comparing of the different platforms i had no idea how stretched the snes looked.I didnt even know earthworm jim 2 came out for the saturn it looks friggin beautiful!!!
Awesome Opossum almost seems like a parody of environment friendly enthusiasts who are always patting themselves on the back for doing "good things" for the environment. Hence the "I'm awesome", and "I'm so cool" catchphrases.
US Gold was formed by the head of a game distributor called Centresoft. They imported games such as Beach Head for the C64 to Britain. They didn't program any games themselves, but published games written by other companies. One such was Probe in the UK who made such a hash of Out Run on the Amiga and ST. I suspect they did the Strider game too.
15:09 Thank you, I have been looking for this game for years! I remember playing this on the PlayStation but over the years I forgot the name of it, It was called Exhumed in the UK, Cheers, I might see if its available on eBay!
Powerslave had a PC release as well. I remember begging my dad to pickup a 3-floppy shareware version at a trade show alongside what I thought was a PC version of Toy Story, but turned out to be a crummy memory game with sound clips from the movie.
Very interesting suggestion! I honestly hadn't even thought about those games since the 32-bit era. I think I only ever rented the Saturn version. I can't recall what I thought of it at the time. I remember it being touted as a true 3D world, like Mario 64 was. Maybe we will cover them sometime!
EA was always a shrewd company but at back then, they did possess a good amount of ingenuity and balls, and they were under the leadership of the eccentric Trip Hawkins. They actually reverse-engineered the Genesis and threatened to blackmail Sega if they didn't allow EA to release games under their own terms. Again, shrewd but definitely ballsy move. Ahh the good old days.
Strider 2 was made by Tiertex and published by US Gold. When I was young Tiertex gave me nightmares due to the amount filth they churned out in the 80's.Great channel guys.
Man that possom game and bubsy almost made me smash my tablet to pieces, but as usual excellent work guys I love it as I do all of them , hurrah for gamesack , is Dave white game coming to xbla ?

I've played Risky's Revenge and I did like that. I haven't played the original GB Shantae. I remember debating about getting it back in the day. I chose wrong as Risky's Revenge was great fun.
i hope the dlc to Dave White forever at least adds Joe.

That's a real shame: Probe were a really good studio. Sadly they got swallowed up by Acclaim, who eventually closed them down.
AVGN: It sucked back then, and it sucks forever.
@@Ms_Drake I love the Adult Video Game Network
I feel like the SNES had some atmosphere to it more so than the Genesis version, but overall the gameplay just couldn't hold it together.
I want a rom of Dave White forever :D
Still one of my favorite episodes to rewatch.
From all the episodes I watched, this one probably has the funniest ending xD
Chef Excellence don't you mean, "an excellent ending"?
I lost it at 19:14 when Dave reacts to the music hahaha
Secret of Evermore was the only game developed solely in the USA by Square. Surprisingly it wasn't released in Japan, unlike Secret of Mana a few years later. That game shines as a western RPG.
Square Enix also seems to just REFUSE to ever speak of its existence ever again. Same case with about I believe more than 60% of Eidos's games.
Great job guys! The bit with the Genesis Marble Madness music and the motion capture stuff at the end was hilarious.
Which platforms can I play Dave White Forever on? The game play and digitised graphics look so awesome! I'm also curious on how many MEGA POWER it consists of?!?!
So great! The quality of every video just keeps getting better and better! Your passion for this really shines through, guys! It is awesome!
It's good to see that Joe appreciates EWJ2 on the Saturn like I do. The discussion came up on Sega-16, and there were several people that thought quite the opposite.
I'm so glad to see Earthworm Jim in here. It's such a great series and such an awesome character,
Where can I buy a copy of Dave White Forever?
I'm also not big into FPS´s but Powerslave/Exhumed was probably the best i've ever played and one of the best games ever in general.

When will you guys be releasing Dave White Forever? ...I need to complete my collection.
Well done, guys. The episodes just keep getting better.

So I paused at 5:25 to read the letter, which is priceless. Clearly Customer Service has always been a core virtue for the folks at EA.
great channel...so much great material
the last part with the green screen and the game was SOOO GOOOD!! you guys rock!
I hold the Oddworld series in pretty much the highest regard I can possibly muster in terms of western development, especially pertaining to the first two games: Abe's Oddyssey and Abe's Exodus. The level of atmosphere and somewhat dark humor really blends well here.
+MikamiFan92 They don't like cinematic platformers that much
I can't believe how good you guys are getting with each edition of Game Sack :D A lot of memories from years ago mixed with great recommendations on great tames. I'll be checking out burnout paradise since I love games like Trackmania.
I can't find a copy of Dave White Forever anywhere!
Liked the video even before watching! That's how good this show has become to me!!
Well, I've seen enough, and after some thought, I've subscribed, great job guys.
haha the ear bleeding part and ending were awesome, you guys keep getting better with each episode
one of the best gamesack episodes

"You're not so awesome." Never was a truer thing said. :P
Great video! Loved the digitised fighter skit at the end too
how dave's face looks when he's throwing the fireballs is so freaking funny. and it appears instantly.
I always wait for the outro! This one was awesomely funny!

Great video. I loved the ending!
General Chaos was a great western dev game for the Genesis and one of the best 4 player games during the 16 bit era.
Which sound card does your Genesis have?
Very good choices. Both Portal games are outstanding.
Great vid guys! keep up the good work.
That game at the end looks pretty rad!!!
The Discworld and X-COM games are some of my favorites that were western-developed.
Awesome! Glad you're enjoying the game.
"May your shame never die" is the best comment ever. The internet should have just quit after that.
One of my very favorite Game Sack episodes. Would you two consider making a follow up?
This video contains the greatest awesome possum review I've ever seen.
Alley Cat for the Atari800 is a personal classic of mine. I loved that game.
great episode!
Awesome Opossum almost seems like a parody of environment friendly enthusiasts who are always patting themselves on the back for doing "good things" for the environment. Hence the "I'm awesome", and "I'm so cool" catchphrases.
It probably IS a parody.
hey just found your channel....love it!
I loved the ending !
You should actually make Dave White Forever.
US Gold was formed by the head of a game distributor called Centresoft. They imported games such as Beach Head for the C64 to Britain. Just wanted to say i really enjoy videos!

Hilarious at the end..lol
Game Sack.
AVGN.
YOU GUYS RULE!!!
25:50 excellent delivery on the viewer engagement line here.
I always listen to the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune soundtracks with all of my racing games. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Yuzo is the best!

Oh GOD! I love Sword of Sodan. Is my favorite Genesis game!
I would pay for a Gamesack digitized fighting game.
With parallax scrolling .
15:09 Thank you, I have been looking for this game for years! I remember playing this on the PlayStation but over the years I forgot the name of it, It was called Exhumed in the UK, Cheers, I might see if its available on eBay!

They escape my memory. I will have to look into this.
Depends on the game as well as your tastes.
LOL freaking genius ending... more more please! :D
The discount Batman Forever game music at the end is pretty impressive. The composer nailed it .
EDIT: That is actually the Batman Forever game music.
Back in 1990 EA still cared what the customers thought of them.
Phil Shary tell that to Dark Castle...
US Gold is the most hated soft company among Amiga fans because of their shitty ports for the system.
Bwahahaha, that ending is gold.
Strider 2 was made by Tiertex and published by US Gold. When I was young Tiertex gave me nightmares due to the amount filth they churned out in the 80's.Great channel guys.
Thank You!
The music from Marble Madness on the genesis is awesome! :D
THANK YOU SO MUCH, HUGS!
16:21 I remember playing this on our PC (Windows95) when I was little. :D
I would like to see another Western-Developed Games episode lol
When's Dave White Forever coming out?
I love the fart noise in the beginning of some episodes
The soundtrack playing on Burnout is great. Can’t find it on Spotify nor CZcams with the name they wrote. Anyone knows?
Man that possom game and bubsy almost made me smash my tablet to pieces, but as usual excellent work guys I love it as I do all of them , hurrah for gamesack , is Dave white game coming to xbla ?

That Japanese Marble Madness must be undumped. I'd love to try it.
Joe, is that music from Wangan Midnight arcade I hear during Burnout Paradise? :)
Almost did the same (for PC). Game sack definitely has me playing a lot of retro games though.
I've played Risky's Revenge and I did like that. I haven't played the original GB Shantae. I remember debating about getting it back in the day. I chose wrong as Risky's Revenge was great fun.
So...when is the GBA getting a port of the Dave Game?
