    Great to see addictive drums getting the credit it deserves on a big CZcams channel. The hype around sd3 sucked me in and I bought it but found it seriously lacking unless you buy some of the more recent expansions like decades and rooms of hansa (which are great) but still addictive drums is the one I use most. Great sounding drums and great interface. Farifax 2 is unbelievable. Great video.

    AD2 is largely overlooked these days. I've been using it for years, and have just recently "live tracked" drums using AD2 exclusively on a 10 track commercially released album. Never really had issues getting a professional sound or getting them to fit into a production. The interface has a great balance between usability and functionality. There is a lot more under the hood than first meets the eye.

    I use this. And i print each track separately. Then mix it as a real kit.

    @SamPendleton Před 5 lety +2

    I agree-- AD has the best combination of sound, versatility, features, usability, playability, footprint/computer workload, and price. And XLN has WONDERFUL customer service.

    Since I got Addictive drums (a couple of years back now), I've not even considered getting another drum library (for acoustic kits anyway)

  • @Middlestepofficial
    @Middlestepofficial Před 5 lety +3

    Hi David. Another small detail about AD is that one can route each drum component to a separate track and then process the sound independently (as if they are miced, so you can apply your own FX and VSTs etc). I think this option is offered after Addictive Drums 2 and is not supported in the first version.

    Makes me smile when I see you geek out to something that...just works! Sounds amazing, great shell interaction/bleed, super sweet dynamics. Beaut of a production tool. Superb video boss!

    SD3 is using uncompressed samples, AD2 uses compression, like EZD too. That's probably the biggest difference. Oh and SD3's user interface is spectacular. And there's no limit to how many slots you can load, whereas in AD you have a fixed number of instrument slots.

    • @TheBlashMusic
      @TheBlashMusic Před 3 lety +1

      Yup, Addictive Drums sounds better straight out of the plug-in than SD3

    • @2free2snakes
      @2free2snakes Před 2 lety

      You are correct but then again, AD2 is more for the hobbyist consumer. And so is the price too. If I was building a studio, I'd definitely get the latest Superior Drummer

  • @richardpenrose1968
    @richardpenrose1968 Před 2 lety

    I used the very early version of AD1 and ended up swapping to SD3 which I used for a few years. I own most of their EZX/SDX's and there are definitely some good sounds. However, I know a few people who use AD2 and I was always extremely impressed with the results they got. As a result, I recently picked up a great deal on the Fairfax Paks and have to say AD2 has completely exceeded my expectations! I've since bought a few more AdPaks and haven't used SD3 since. I love the sound and workflow of AD2 and I'm getting better results in a fraction of the time! It's extremely impressive how XLN Audio have been able to create such realistic and natural sounding drum samples in AdPaks that are much smaller in size to all the Toontrack SDX/EZX's! Really looking forward to seeing how AD2 will develop in the future! Maybe an AD3 at some point!?

    I already have track templates and presets so I get multi out tracks and add comp, eq, attack, sustain, etc, to each channel (KD, SD, HH, Ride, Cymbals, OH, Room) in Reaper. Easy mixing. LOVE Meinl cymbals (included in some adpaks).

  • @Bcwilderness
    @Bcwilderness Před 5 lety

    yeh man been killing this for years, i will say it is so good sounding, you really mix up to it but solid crisp and good to solo elements like cymbals and blends killer with perf drums too try soloing the room and oh from ad2 and the kick snare and toms from perf, boom

    Hey David, good show and tell. I almost got the Custom AD on last sale, used to use the first AD a few years back in a friend's studio and loved the brush kit. What made me not get it was that I have the free Sennheiser Drummica! for Kontakt Player. Just one kit, but several mics to chose from for each instrument, and included EQ, compression and several room reverbs. And presets that make it sound very different. It sounds really natural, which I like. I also won a Vintage Funk & Disco Kit from Drumdrops, which is pretty nice, MT Power Drumkit 2 which is free (less natural though), several drumkits from Karoryfer Lecolds (Swirly, Big Rusty and Unruly Drums), and Audio Assault's Druminator and Westwood. I must say though, nowadays I end up reaching for Drummica more often than not. But still, the brush kit and the boutique mallets on this are unique enough for me to look forward to the next Black Friday. Also Steven Slate Drums 5 are still on sale and sound pretty good, but don't have brush kits unfortunately. IK MUltimedia's MODO Drums are supposed to be pretty great also, have you tried it?

    • @oceantracestudios
      @oceantracestudios Před 4 lety

      @@mixbustv Since it's free, you should try Drummica! in Kontakt Player. Other than that, I think you're good with Addictive Drums. :)

    I bought AD ~3 years ago. Last week SD3. The SD3 is just so easy to get a full drum song going.
    The drums are slightly better sounding (we're talking George Massenburg mixed kits!). Try it out.
    So, now I have all collections but BFD which I will never need. The Slate is my second fav (CLA is the man)

I recorded a cymbalpack (included my Epica cymbal stack) 2 years ago and still not finished it, because of a lot of other work, but it will get done... My drumbook got a great review here in Europe (Slagwerkkrant Sept- Oct 2019), so I,m not complaining....;) Giving the world our talents, what do want more than??? hahahaha..;)

    I love and use this plugin from ver.1! Anyway, did you noticed that Comp is always before EQ? Can you explain why, in your opinion, XNL Audio decided this default signal chain? (I made my presets putting Comp after EQ, by the way)!

    Only thing is, I super wish that you could assign each drum sound to separate outputs into the DAW. But yeah, the best. Check out XLN's DS-10 Transient Shaper too (it is F'ing rad!)

      @rockostiffredi4276 Před 5 lety

      PsycleDSR Pretty sure you can do DAW multi output in Logic x Drummer. Don’t know how it compares to Addictive as far as sounds/ versatility though. This looks tempting.

    • @everythingNotHere
      @everythingNotHere Před 5 lety

      Can be done! easily done in Reaper, and I'm sure in at least a few of the other DAWS. I just select off of a menu - output (from AD) to individual tracks (in DAW) ... but not in AD, in the DAWs menu.

  • @juancarlosguagnoni4062

    Hey David ! How you doing ? I know you did this video a long time ago and WOW ! I am like " I WANT TO BUY THIS !!! " but ... What do you think about Superior drummer 3 ? If you use it , which one is the best one ? Superior or addictive ??? And... If I want a " I just recorded that sample on a studio right now " sound , like really RAW , what do you thing about Addictive drums on that area ? I hearded the " Clean Dry " preset , but , is it exactly " RAW " ...???? Thank you again for your time , I know you are into a lot of wonderful projects right know with Bella and I have to let you know that you inspire me like always since I discovered your Chanel and ...Man ! I wish you all the best David , you really worth it ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU !!! =D

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  Před 3 lety +1

      I use both, SD is more versatile because of the very large library and in depth tweaking functions, both have great samples, a bit more processed on addictive, if you want raw, SD has really raw samples for every library but you have to extract them by soloing in the mixer

    so I get all the good of said Channel strip, or normal levels. Hell, is said Channel strip good for vocals? I mean, very good?
