Oh Roomy, you know how to summon me with Dave. I appreciate the love, miss you, pal. Tim Reynolds - Stream is pretty cool to check out. Beers in 2021 I hope.
Yup, Two Step and Warehouse are my top 2 DMB songs. Two Step IS my favorite song ever. Always listen to it like 5 times in a row when it comes on the Playlist ❤
I was just listening to a shit load of Dave and Tim the other night like the old days and kept wondering why people aren’t constantly making content and videos around their music. It’s beyond incredible. The best song writer or at least most prolific in the last 3 decades. Dave’s rhythm playing is insane and Tim’s solos are ambient, soulful slide and he can shred acoustic. Dave is a genius. So glad you are plying this. I bought Live at Luther College on a school trip in 8th grade in 1998 and listened to it the 2 hour ride home and my musical world was never the same. One of the best memories of my life was that bus ride back from Newport, RI listening to Dave and Tim on my yellow Sony Sports CD Walkman. God Bless Dave and Tim and everyone on this channel.
My wife and I were lucky enough to be able to go to the first set of Barcelo Maya shows. They played 3 complete sets over 3 night- well over 100 songs- and didn't repeat any. Check out DMB Almanac for the list. It's impressive.
Dude we are kindred spirits. My friend, whose name is also Dave, got me to listen to DMB, it was one of those radio cuts... but then I listened o Lie in Our Grave and Best of What's Around... That was it! I was forever hooked and saw DMB live twice at Fenway, at least three times at the Tweeter Center (when it was the Tweeter) and once at the Garden. The Band is amazing live... but the one song I love above all... The Stone live at Red Rocks!!!! Oh My God!!! It is probably the most perfect song!!! It has such a hauntingly beautiful melody that carries all the way through... Just simply amazing!!!!
This concert in particular has been a cornerstone of my Dave Matthews experience. Ethereal and complex, it gives me goosebumps every time. I've had the opportunity to see Tim and Dave in these acoustic settings (large and small) SO many times, and none of them have met the level of genius that was on display that night in 2007
Happy you’re doing Dave but bummed that you were recommended a cover that doesn’t show off Dave’s rhythm guitar skills. The Warehouse, The Stone, Lie in our Graves, or What Would You Say would have been way more interesting for you to break down. Oh and if you were going to do a cover, it would have been awesome to see Cortez, The Killer with Warren Haynes from Live at Central Park.
agree, would be AMAZING to see him do a review of Tripping Billies, Lie in Our Graves, THE STONE, Best of Whats Around.. anything that shows Dave's unconventional rhythm
Yeah it's all good though. When it's just them two u can actually hear what there doin. Dave does get super complex while he sings on a bunch of em tho. Hopefully he does another. I can listen to those albums all the way through all day
I feel like you’re in my head lol. I hadn’t listened to these guys in probably 15 years, and a few nights ago, I went down a rabbit hole and watched them play sets for literally like 6 hours!
Also, my best friend went to Frostburg back in the early to mid 2000’s. Spent way too many weekends there drunk, stumbling to the nearest Sheetz for subs lol
This song is so spiritual and beautifully performed. The lyrics of the song themselves leave me enchanted. They are so religious, not in a denominational way, but in the sense of some greater sense of existence. It’s written like a song but sung like a prayer.
Also it was the saxophone player who died. LeRoi Moore. Dave had a falling out with Boyd Tinsley (fiddle) after some not so flattering news came out about him.
I’ve played drums for over 30 years, never even attempted to play guitar, yet I’m extremely hooked on this channel. Looking to buy a guitar and learn something new now that I’m retired. Great channel!!
I’ve played guitar for 20 years and just bought my first drum kit. I’ve been taking online drum lessons and the drumming has actually improved my guitar playing.
@@ogs1mpson609 I’ve found this to be true too. Learning new instruments oddly improves your ability to play other instruments. Perhaps it’s because it trains your ear to listen to other sounds. I know learning some percussion has definitely improved my sense of timing and my phrasing skills on guitar... Learning different instruments has also exponentially improved my musical listening experience and altered my taste in music over the years.
This solo made my Apple Watch tell me to breathe. Your breakdowns have been helping me soooo much, especially through quarantine. I’ve progressed more technically, theoretically, and with my ear more in the last year than in probably the last 6 combined. You’ve really helped me get past a crazy plateau dude. “Third hunting” especially has been huge for me.
Thank you brotha for another great video. Huge Dave fan here and love your channel as well. Keep putting the beautiful vibes out for the world man. Much love my man.
I think this is adorable. Reminds me of when I'd sit in my bedroom for hours first learning the melody of Dave's songs via Dave and Tim Live at Luther College and then being blown away by Tim's solos. How he weaves melodies in and uses his delay pedals along with his virtuous ability was astounding to me as a 15/16 year old just teaching himself how to play. I then found TR's solo work and it took playing guitar to a whole new level. Then came John Mayer in the earl 2000s and I all but gave up haha! Great video dude.
Dave and Tim: “Two Step”, or “#41”... killer live performances. If you haven’t checked either of them out, do yourself a favor and go watch them. Some of my favorite acoustic pieces of all time.
Awesome! thank you for that, I check for tim reynolds videos everyday and today this gem fell on my lap! Analysing Dave and Tim songs is the next best thing to hearing them! you rock! keep up the good work! maybe another Tim solo someday? :P
beautiful analysis, this concert is one of my biggest inspirations as a musician. I've been playing drums for 15 years and just now learning guitar and you have definitely inspired me to learn triads and different inversions over noodling away!! please if you havent yet watch the full concert, and I hope you will do Stay or Leave in the future from this performance. keep being awesome \m/
lol that would be hilarious to see mikes reaction, i love radio city version and im a huge dave fan so id say im a bit biased but also realize for an outsider it might be one of those "you had to be there" moments lol dunno what mike would say but i love RC version and how hyped the crowd gets when tims just fucking going hard for the longest time i still get gooose bumps listening to it
Daniel Lanois is one of those musician whose work you've heard a million times, but still can't quite place him. Among other things, he co-produces U2's Joshua Tree album. Dave and Tim cover another of his songs- Still Water- in this show and the bridge from it to Don't Drink The Water is absolute perfection.
Michael, once again, you made my head hurt! Don't get me wrong, I keep coming back because I enjoy your videos. It's fun watching you alternate between fangirling and getting excited because you know what someone just did. Your enthusiasm is contagious for sure, and I do manage to pick up the odd nugget here and there. Sometimes you just remind me of something I forgot a long time ago, but it always raises more questions. It's inspiring to watch someone who is fluent in the language of music work through things as quickly as you do while I'm still trying to get my head around the "A E I O U and sometimes Y" aspect of the circle of fifths! Y? Because it makes the math work out is the best I've been able to reconcile it so far. Anyway, keep up the great work! Looking forward to the next one!
one of my first musical loves from like 13-20. the analysis makes me feel old. saw the show 2 days before this one^ at the Wang Theater in Bostin on 4/2/07 :D
maann im jealous. still think this wouldve been the last song i recommended from this set by far - not that its bad i just think there are so many better choices
3:31 Acadie by Daniel Lanois is a very underrated album. Check it out if you haven’t already. He also was in a group called Black Dub that made some good music. Plus Lanois has produced albums by very famous people like U2, Bob Dylan and many others
Big Head Todd and the Monsters love @Red rocks 2008 "bittersweet". It has the coolest and most amazing guitar solo. The song as whole is very imprinting. Would love to see you go over this song.
Been watching your videos a long time. Never miss any. First comment. Thanks so much for doing this one. I played my whole young life. Being 45 now I feel like I.can sit down and play a tune, and I can, but that I almost need to learn all over again. I too have experienced a lot of.loss the past three years. My father built me.my first electric guitar and purchased my first Ibanez 12 string when I was 12. Just a couple months ago I purchased a 6 string acoustic from a friend and a 6 string PRS from a local guitar shop. I also bought a 6 string for my 7 year old who wants to learn ro play. I.think its time to jump into your courses. Again, thanks for all you do to give back.
Thank you for doing D & T!! Btw LeRoi Moore was the saxophonist who unfortunately passed away in 2008...Boyd Tinsley was the fiddle player who is no longer in the band.
Hey Michael, I love *all* your little 'noodling' sessions at the start of your videos, but this one was an absolute blinder - beautiful! Finish it off, dude - it needs to be a full piece. 😁
Hey bud just stumbled on to your channel and was excited to see that you use us veiwers as a way to run your channel in a sense!! Any who I got a great country/bluesy style singer named Zach Bryan I like Anita or codeine pills then there’s also a guy named Tanner Usrer song called Josephine, and a bonus guy, Guy Clark a song I know you’ll like called The Guitar!! Literally three amazing videos and guys that haven’t really gotten the love they really deserve!
Any Dave and tim song is great to listen to! I love your latest video of watching Derek trucks with DMB one of my favorite versions ever! Dmb is my all time fav band
I`ve watched several of your reaction videos, and love seeing the emotion to every aspect of the music. You hear each instruments unique move, and feel every word in the story being told... Music fills lots of voids, for lots of people, and one artist that transforms every ounce of her being so vividly, it can be absorbed by each viewer to resonate on their own level is Tash Sultana.... I`m sure you`re familiar with her, but if not check her out... ( Jungle ) is one of her songs, that to watch her perform speaks VoLUmES...I`d love to hear your take, and probably enjoy your reaction even more honestly LOL.....Keep the vids coming... Cheers!!!! Shawn King Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada
boyd tinsley (violin) got me tooed, LeRoi Moore (sax, and the namesake GrooGrux King from that album) passed in 2008 after an ATV accident. Stefan Lessard (bass) joined the band at 16 as it formed. Daniel Lanois, who wrote this tune also produced Bob Dylan (Oh Mercy and then Time Out of Mind), U2 (Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, and more), and others
Have been on a CZcams rabbit hole tonight and it led to me your incredible channel. Your knowledge, passion, and your attention to detail on the breakdown of the songs are amazing to watch. I started with your initial Colter Wall series then Tyler Childers and was wondering if you could get some Shawn James Reactions. He has one of the best ranges of vocalists and he actually led me to Colter Wall and Tyler Childers. His song "American Hearts", sung in a wolf sanctuary, is incredible. There is another called "Eating Like Kings." It resonates deep with my own experiences overseas. Thanks for the entertainment.
Michael, have you ever listened to Lanois’ album For The Beauty of Wynona? His guitar playing and songwriting is amazing. You can also hear how much influence he had on all the people he produced (Peter Gabriel, Robbie Robertson, U2, Emmy Lou Harris, Luscious Jackson, Hothouse Flowers, Bob Dylan, Neville Brothers) through the 90s and early two thousands, and that he actually played on a lot of those albums. This song is from his previous album called Acadie. He also has a lot of cool pedal steel instrumental stuff. Plus, especially on Wynona, the New Orleans/Quebec swampy 1/4 triplet rhythms are dank.
@@Guitargate More!!!!!! his cover of Superstar (Karen Carpenter) is mind blowing. Also you have NEVER done Phil Keaggy, one of the best fingerstyle guitarists of all time.....
@@Guitargate Oh man I watched them all already. I was blown away by the Summertime cover. Side door is an amazing song, was hoping to see a reaction on that one.
Hearing guys like this speak music theory is so friggin awesome and mind blowing. It’s like quantum physics when the rest of us tuned out after geometry. I just laugh when he starts doing his teaching.
Long Black Veil, that was one of the best covers i ever heard Dave Mathews cover. It was just so raw, because it was some kind of bootleg audio version, but what got me was his appreciation of not just the music, but the lyrics and how good they are. Because me, dave matthews, thom yorke, and so many people like us, yes, we dont care so much about lyrics... until a really good song comes along with the face bashing lyrics like Long Black Veil, or like Bartender, or Country Roads maybe.
Definitely agree with a lot of the other comments. Great, beautiful song, but there are many others that showcase more intricate/impressive playing. Warehouse for some tough muting, JTR, The Stone, or Fool to Think for little more intricate riffs. Or songs like Drive In Drive Out, You Never Know, or Last Stop for full band if you’re looking for talent in the band as a whole. Either way, happy to see some Dave and Tim!
Have been watching and enjoying your videos and enthusiasm for the songs for a few days. Sierra Ferrel and Shakey Graves. Would love to hear what you make of Bob Log iii and his tunings. (Log Bomb is a favourite of mine) keep up the good work.
Cool to listen to you reaction to this. Leroi passed away - he was the sax player. Boyd Tinsley was the fiddler I think you are referring to. He had taken a hiatus from the band for carpel tunnel treatment and was later fired. Stephan is the bass player and was quite young when he joinde as you mentioned. I think Carter's last name is Beauford (b-OH-ferd). Cheers!
Daniel Lenois produced "Red Hill Mining Town" with Brian Eno on "The Joshua Tree." Willie Nelson even recorded a version of this, as well as "Gravedigger" by Dave. I was flabbergasted by all of it.
you might consider segments on jazz guitarists such as George Benson, Gabor Szabo, Grant Green; rockers like Rory Gallagher; also suggesting Artie Traum
Oh Roomy, you know how to summon me with Dave. I appreciate the love, miss you, pal. Tim Reynolds - Stream is pretty cool to check out. Beers in 2021 I hope.
Stream is sick, good choice!
Thumbs up for roomy Todd
Frostburg State 🙌
I love seeing Dave & Tim live. I’ve been a fan since the 90’s.❤️
Only one month left in 2021. Gotta know.. did the beers happen?!
That entire concert was pure magic. Do two step one day from this exact concert
I get goosebumps just thinking about that two step ending
Two Step is one of my all time favorite songs. Whether it's DMB or Dave & Tim it is a masterpiece. Carter is a MONSTER in that song. SO GOOD!
Or, for the truely brutal song....cover Warehouse!!! It's soooo hard to stay in time!!
Yup, Two Step and Warehouse are my top 2 DMB songs. Two Step IS my favorite song ever. Always listen to it like 5 times in a row when it comes on the Playlist ❤

That whole concert at Radio City is phenomenal. This is one of my fav songs, but they both really show out in Bartender.
This whole concert is a masterpiece. Tim Reynolds is phenomenal. “Betrayal” is unbelievable.
Song gave me chills 15 years ago and still does to this day!
Grave Digger from this performance has always given goosebumps. One of the best live shows of all time.
"When The World Ends" & "Stay or Leave" from Radio City Hall are two of my favorite performances by Dave & Tim... they can't do wrong!
Stay or leave is an amazing performance
The opening with Bartender and dancing nancies were fantastic as well
Lie In Our Graves ftw
Literally the whole show is phenomenal. There isn’t one song they don’t kill. BUT Grave Digger is BONE CHILLING.

Thanks for posting this. You beat me to the punch.
@@markjuenemann1702 nice!
Frostburg State - spent a year there in '98...don't remember much!
The Tea Party cover is one of the best out there. Magical.
Can we get some more Marcus King on here, the guy is on fire lately. (Side door, Goodbye Carolina, Rita is Gone)
Oh I've done a few. Please search for them. HE"S FANTASTIC.
Rita's gone at paste!!!!
These two are master painters with a guitar. It's why you will see sold how D&T shows.
Hearing guys like this speak music theory is so friggin awesome and mind blowing. It’s like quantum physics when the rest of us tuned out after geometry. I just laugh when he starts doing his teaching.
If you are not born-again; you are a stranger in the hands of the maker!
I can't count how many times I've watched that blue-ray
Long Black Veil, that was one of the best covers i ever heard Dave Mathews cover. It was just so raw, because it was some kind of bootleg audio version, but what got me was his appreciation of not just the music, but the lyrics and how good they are. Because me, dave matthews, thom yorke, and so many people like us, yes, we dont care so much about lyrics... until a really good song comes along with the face bashing lyrics like Long Black Veil, or like Bartender, or Country Roads maybe.
Love when Jerry Band did this. Jerry’s guitar would bring out so many emotions in this song.
This is my favorite Dave song.
Cheers!
Would really love for you to break down Tim's performance on Two Step from this same show. Definitely worth your time.

Daniel Lenois produced "Red Hill Mining Town" with Brian Eno on "The Joshua Tree." Willie Nelson even recorded a version of this, as well as "Gravedigger" by Dave. I was flabbergasted by all of it.
He did all of Joshua tree w Eno
Jerry did a great version of this as well. I learned this a few months back. It's fun to play in E
you might consider segments on jazz guitarists such as George Benson, Gabor Szabo, Grant Green; rockers like Rory Gallagher; also suggesting Artie Traum
I'd love to watch you experience Bartender from the RCMH show.
