Bobby Tambling tells us what life was like once he was signed with Chelsea and the years he spent playing football in the UK and of course scoring goals!
As a 19 yr old in the early 80s I left Liverpool and went down south (Portsmouth) looking for work on the building Started work as a hod carrier for a brickie gang some other fella was on the hod as well we paired up running the bricks and muck After a few days he asked me who I supported Liverpool or Everton obviously coming from Liverpool I told him I was a blue nose COYBB the guy went on to blow my mind by disclosing he had scored the winner in the FA cup against Liverpool turned out it was Bobby A smashing humble man I was amazed to find Chelsea leading goal scorer of all time (at the time) carrying the hod I worked with Bobby for about 6 months and pestered him daily for his memories of his career and then moved on. I later heard that Chelsea had done the right thing and given him an ambassador role back with the club A proper gent and a memory from my past that I will never forget
A legend from when football was exciting and end to end. None of this boring playing out from the back. As he says, now it takes forever and dozens of passes for a team to get box to box. Football was better back then, no doubt about it. Players had brains. That was the beautiful game that has now turned ugly because of money.
