Who is Joshua Zirkzee?
Joshua Zirkzee is a 22-year-old striker for Italian club Bologna, with whom he is rushing to the Champions League at full steam! He was born in Schiedam, South Holland, the Netherlands, where he represented VV Hekelingen, Spartaan '20, ADO Den Haag and Feyenoordâs youth teams. In 2017, Zirkzee joined the academy of Bayern Munich.
Later on, in the winter of 2019, Joshua made his first-team debut for Die Roten during the Champions League group stage match against Tottenham, and a week later he made his first Bundesliga appearance against SC Freiburg. Replacing Philippe Coutinho in the 90th minute, Zirkzee managed to score the game-winning goal just two minutes into the action!
Three days after, he came on as a substitute in the league fixture against VfL Wolfsburg and again slotted it home in just two minutes after coming on the pitch. By the end of the season, Zirkzee netted 4 goals for Bavarians in 9 Bundesliga appearances and became the German champion, not to mention his side's triumph in the German Cup and the Champions League!
However, despite an early and promising breakthrough at Bayern, the coaching staff considered him not yet ready for the main roster. Consequently, at the beginning of 2021, the striker was loaned to Parma, and then transferred to Belgian side Anderlecht 6 months later.
On August 30, 2022, Zirkzee inked a full contract with Bologna, who paid âŹ8.5 million for his services. With that, Bayern inserted a buy-back clause worth âŹ40 million, just in case!
Zirkzee's first season at Bologna did not go well - only 2 goals and 2 assists in 19 appearances... You see, the most enjoyable times for Joshua came under Thiago Motta's guidance!

Throughout the ongoing season, Joshua Zirkzee has already bagged 12 goals and 7 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions. And he will definitely continue to improve his stats!
The Dutchman has been transformed into a huge unpredictable threat to Serie A defenders! Although Zirkzee operates as a forward, Motta wants him to take on a variety of roles, adapting to different game dynamics.
Zirkzee's stature and low center of gravity, quick ball receptions and one-touch passes help Bologna to instantly switch from defense to midfield and attack. Joshua chaotically stretches opponents' defensive lines and is constantly looking for free space to open up for a pass.

Take this season for example: he has an average of 2.89 shots per 90 minutes and he doesn't have a weak foot: He took 49 shots with his right and registered 7 goals, 25 shots with his left and hit the target 5 times. His other strength lies in the ability to lead the game and set the pace for his team. He possesses high technical skills and can easily beat opponents with his dribbling, then quickly accelerate and involve his teammates with passes. Besides, Joshua often drops deep in order to receive passes and find creative solutions with his cutting long ball passes. In this regard, he is similar to Bayern Munich's Harry Kane.
Thanks to his passes, Zirkzee has created 11 big chances in the current campaign and has an average of 2.35 expected assists and 1.3 key passes. The accuracy of his passes in the opposition half reaches 72%, which is also acceptable for a forward.
Again, Joshua can always go back and do some defensive work! He averages a solid 3.1 for balls recovered per game and, having 31 successful tackles, ranks 6th among all Serie A attackers.
Joshua's heat map shows that he actually plays more in the midfield, running into the box only to finish the attacks he himself had initiated.
Still, the lad clearly understands what to do in front of the goal. He can receive the ball with his back to the goal and, with short explosive moves and agility, surprise defenders while daringly breaking through to the goalkeeper in a limited space. I hope he comes to Spurs as he is absolutely perfect for BIG Ange's system. He presses exceptionally well, has insane technical abilities, is a team first player and has one of the best bodies in pro football today. I can see a half dozen players with double-digit goals with Zirkzee, Maddison and Kulusevski acting as a revolving door of playnakers for that side. Match to match that side would be near-impossible to predict.

better than haaland ??? i don't think so. haaland has scored same amount of goals in 20/21 season in dorthmund, as zirkzee has scored hes whole career at professional level. at this moment Zirkzee is at level where he might be a starter in nott. forest. but not even sure if he is more clinical than chris wood, who also has 12 goals in league this season.
