I'm dying at the passing out game. That was a sleepover activity staple when I was a kid. Eat some doritos...go take turns passing out..watch a movie. All very normal stuff😂

I was always told the seat belt/helmet laws were created to benefit insurance companies. Essentially, lowering the risk of you filing an exorbitant claim, under the guise of safety. But, you’re right, the same could also be said for drinking/overeating resulting in more healthcare claims. I think I changed my own mind while typing this. 😅

Weighing in on the seat belt topic. I was hit head on by a drunk driver while waiting to turn left. He fell asleep at the wheel, gas pedal went to the floor, so he must have been doing at least 50. I wasn't wearing a seat belt, because it wasn't a law in 1989. I went up into the windshield, hit my head on it and was knocked out. The steering wheel stopped me from going through the windshield. I suffered a cervical and thoracic sprain, nose fracture and cuts/bruises. I think if I'd been belted in, I probably would have broken my neck.

I agree with Joe on the seatbelt for all the same reasons! I received a seatbelt ticket once and I told the officer that you can ride on a motorcycle without a helmet or ride in the back of a truck and yet that's okay? He told me to be safe and have a nice day. 💩

The way I think about the seatbelt law is: If I accidentally crashed with a car (my fault) and the person was ejected and died because they did not wear their seatbelt..Sure, that’s their fault, but I now have to live with the fact that I accidentally killed a person. Horrifying. Not to say they wouldn’t have died anyway, but still. So, it’s not only for yourself but for everyone else that may get into an accident with you.

Pretty sure the main reason for a seatbelt is so if you get in an accident and fly through the windshield, first responders don’t show up and see your body completely mangled more than it would of been if u had a seatbelt on. It’s for everyone else so they don’t see you all mangled and get traumatized.

You could sell EF tanks, sweatpants, wrist wraps, knee/elbow sleeves. It’s simple and with high quality/reasonable price would be easier to sell vs a big clothing line and would take less space in your warehouse. Just a thought.
I’m from a different part of Virginia and I remember doing that when I was a kid and then we would get my little brothers to do that?
So funny 😂 btw I noticed some black screens in this episode, like at 35:40. On the seatbelt note, at my school in the UK we were shown videos of people not wearing seatbelts in the backseat killing those in the front seats.

Honestly I'm terrible about wearing my seat belt. I grew up in South Dakota and it wasn't even a law when I got my driver's license (at 14 years old). The only way I can see it affecting others is first responders (more deaths=more trauma=harder to keep people in the fields) or burden on the health system $$$ because there would be greater injuries overall/stats etc... I know I should be better and kids 100% yes need proper seat belts/carseats etc

Great podder again, although the seatbelt argument has more to it. A lot of traffic deaths come from the passengers not wearing seatbelts and flying to the people in front. It definitely affects other people. Imagine how much kinetic energy an adult projectile flying into the seat in front has, that's what kills people who were wearing seatbelts. Then there also are the indirect costs to society, such as healthcare. Maybe if no seatbelt = no healthcare, this wouldn't be that much of an issue.

My mom was in a Car Accident was thrown from the vehicle and the doctor said if she would have had it on she would have died.
New Hampshire doesn’t have seat belt laws
From what I've read, time seems to move quicker the older we get because you are experiencing less new things. So your brain has less things to process so a week of being a kid there was a lot of shit going on that your brain had to categorize but now its just a lot of the same things everyday.
In Canada, the law makes sense. If you fall on your bike and crack your head, everyone is paying for your healthcare. You get into a car accident and break your arm or get concussed because you weren’t wearing a seatbelt, everyone is paying for your healthcare. It makes sense here. Keep it as a law.
