NO WINDOW, NO PROBELM! In this video I start my 1977 Yamaha XT500 without using the cam position window.

Yeah that's awesome I usually kick through it with the decompression lever in a half a dozen times to get things flowing with the oil. It's the 76 model that does not have the little window I have one. Thanks for making the video your help help out quite a few people

The 1976 XT500 does not have that cam window. I soon learned this starting procedure the hard way.
There was no internet back then. :)

I have an xt500 and a tt500. I've never used or looked at the window.

I have never used the window on either my '78 or '80. Just gotta have mechanical knowledge.
