    This is not a criticism, just a helpful hint. I see so many many people on CZcams laying laminate flooring without leaving a small gap along the walls for expansion and contraction. You run the risk of your floor buckling, especially if you have big swings in humidity between seasons. The easiest way to leave that small gap is to place some of the large painter's stir sticks on edge along the walls (or a strip of 1/8 plywood) and remove them after the flooring is laid. That leaves a perfect 1/8-inch gap all around. It also helps in laying the flooring square if your walls are uneven. Typically the gap is then covered by baseboard (needless to say one should nail, or glue, baseboard to the WALLS, not FLOOR). Wood products, even laminate, absorb and release moisture so they need to able to move slightly over time. Hope this is helpful to other do-it-yourselfers who may be watching this channel.

      @TheIndigoEscape  Před 9 měsíci +6

      Hi Joanne, thank you for your comment. This however isn't laminate where is super important to do what you have mentioned but its LVF and they don't require expansion gaps.

    Your tomatoes got blossom end rot often a symptom of inconsistent water supply . Using calcium when you plant can help.

    • @TheIndigoEscape

      Watch the channel Garden like a Viking. He has a WONDERFUL CALCIUM SOLUTION which is shelf stable for a long time and you use very little. It is very concentrated but no worry it is all organic and cannot harm the plants if you use a bit than required... . You need to use this too on all peppers and chilli's.

    We had a poor tomato year in California as well. I'm totally jealous of your San Marzanos. I got nothing from mine. The damage is called blossom end rot and is caused by insufficient calcium. Fluctuating sorry l moisture, like overwatering then drying out makes it worse. Just because I know what causes it doesn't mean that I've been able to prevent it. Maybe next year (the eternal optimism of gardeners).

  • @suzieq2958
    @suzieq2958 Před 9 měsíci +2

    Coming on fabulously 😀
    Tip for tomatoes- try drying some on kitchen roll then plant the piece of kitchen roll. It worked for me, and I even had a self seeded plant! 😮

  • @robynclarke5274
    @robynclarke5274 Před 9 měsíci +4

    The brown bottom of the tomatoes is called blossom end rot which is due to inconsistent watering. Humidity doesn't help either. If possible a watering system would help.
    How to Correct Blossom End Rot?
    Consistent Watering. Maybe you've been too casual with your watering routine and let your tomatoes dry out while they were setting fruit. ...
    Test Calciums Levels, and Adjust as Needed. ...
    Check Soil pH and Correct as Needed. ...
    Use a Tomato Fertilizer with Calcium. ...
    Avoid Damaging the Roots.
    Hope this helps.

    Blossom end rot is what is happening with your tomatoes. Heaps of reasons, but basically a decrease in uptake of calcium. Easy to fix. Research if for next summer crop. You guys are doing so well. Keep up the good work

    Growing up as a mozambican in South Africa in the 80's, I can recall using that contraption in my mother's kitchen to produce delicious soups, especially the hearty red bean soup w/ pigs feet (boiled prior after marinading in a garlic, salt & vinegar mix, until tender) - I deduce that a lot of mozambican cuisine pulls from the portugese of course, apparently kitchen utensils too)!

    The bottom of your tomatoes is called end rot in English. You might need more calcium in your soil. If you add compost to cover the soil while it is growing that is great. Also, crush up your egg shells and mix in the top soil to add some calcium. Honestly tho, I take about three Tums- a product for heart burn- and add a few inches around the stem and that will seems to do the trick.

    Tomatoes are some what temperamental vegetables I find . The first time I had black bottom ones I was told I had not watered them on a regular basis (which was probably true). Now I do not worry about collecting the seeds I either just throw the waste parts or damaged ones on the ground or into my compost bin and allow them to come up when they are ready. Another way is lay the pulp on paper towel and let them dry naturally. Australia seems to have a hot dry climate like Portugal so perhaps this will work for you too, the quantity of crop varies from year to year anyway. Two years ago I had one plant that grew from seed a large cherry tomato.The plant grew to about six feet tall and the same around I harvested about thirty kilos of tomotoes, the neigbhours all did very well that year. When I pulled it out ,it had a stump that was almost two inches in diameter. Last year I had hundreds of seedlings in the bed but none grew as big as the original, I hope this years crop will be better, I still have far too many seedling however. Luckily one of my neighbours is a mad gardener too.
