  • From freezer to dinner table in 30 minutes. The Instant Pot can cook a whole frozen rabbit in 30 minutes. Just shred the cooked meat, add BBQ sauce and serve. Sarah "doctors ups" some of her homemade BBQ sauce while the frozen rabbit cooks.

Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.

I have raised rabbits for years but honestly never liked the meat as it was a little bland no matter what I did. UNTIL I got a power cooker like you use. Infuses more flavor into the meat and it is wonderful. Love it this way.

I never get tired of your kitchen time uploads. Such a pleasure to watch. I gotta get an Insta Pot. I'm overrun with wild rabbits, so I only have to raise my own every 2-3 years. They keep very well when frozen if you vacuum seal them. Edit....I sure like the hat. Save your egg money and buy Kevin a 'basket case'. He can build a bike up at his own pace/budget, AND just the way HE envisions it. VERY satisfying.

I wish I could find meat rabbit at the market. We were gifted a rabbit or week by my landlord when I was raising my girls , alone. Her son was trying to get a market/restaurant business started in san angelo, tx. Mrs Dean was a friend and a saint to us. Now I wrote in today to mention, you already know I'm sure, but vent your instapot or any steam from NOT under your cabinets. Eventually it will rust metal parts, warp the wooden parts. And as u are be careful. Fondly job

OMG we just discovered another way to use your amazing IP shredded rabbit. We make our version of Shepherd's Pie with it. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. In a pan, take the shredded rabbit and saute it in the hot pan with a generous splash of olive oil, add fresh ground black pepper, brown slightly then cover with one 12 oz jar of turkey gravy, rinse out jar with 1/4c of dry cooking sherry, add to pan, simmer until gravy reduces slightly. Place in the bottom of an oven safe pot (cast enamel or ceramic work well). Top with your favorite frozen mixed veggies (we use the california medley but the carrot mix works great too). For the next layer cover the veggies with sharp cheddar cheese (we take a full 8oz block of cheese sliced up). The final layer is mashed potatoes. Any kind will do (homemade, Bob Evans premade, boxed, they all work well). Pop in the oven for 30 mins or so and Voila! Easy and delicious dinner! Enjoy! Thanks again for this amazingly easy shredded IP Rabbit recipe. We LOVE watching your channel!

I have cooked rabbit in a pressure cooker from dead frozen to table in 30 minutes so I know what you are talking about. It is cooked and tender in such a short time. Very convenient. I have cooked with a pressure cooker and a crock pot but the method I now prefer is a thermal cooker. If you are not familiar, a quick Google search will show you. They work on an old method of retained heat like a hay box. There are many advantages and fuel savings is only one. They are also a wonderful 'emergency option'.

Hi Sarah! I love fried rabbit and gravy. And I always been told you can’t eat pet rabbits that you raise. I also love your mixer, I got the same one for Christmas. And my wonderful husband also bought me the Instant pot and some of the assessories to go with it right after Christmas. I’ve got to use the instant pot twice and I love it. I’ve not got to use my mixer yet but I know I’m going to love it also. Because I just had surgery on Dec. 28th to put in a spine stimulator to help with my back pain. And I was in the hospital Dec. 28 - Jan. 2 in the hospital. And then went back in the hospital on my birthday Jan 15 with an infection in my blood called Sepsis and I’m still in the hospital but I’m still using my phone to watch my friends like you that I watch on CZcams. @@richardmang2558 Sure!
I wrote the comment about a year ago, a lot has been going on since then.
After some "complications" we finally had success. Now, instead of only two, we have 5 does and two bucks and everything's going very well. We're able to feed our family and sometimes even sell a rabbit here and there which evens out the cost for the feed.
It's important for beginners not to give up right away. One of our first does didn't want to breed and the other had her first litter on the wire, all of them died. It sucks...
It took much more time than I expected, but if you're patient and treat your animals good, you're on the right way.

Just beginning to raise rabbits. What is the perfect size prior to butchering? Thanks.

    • @richardmang2558
      @richardmang2558 Před 2 lety +1

Usually the rabbits are harvested and classified according to age since different breeds will be different sizes. But age affects tenderness, grain and texture, flavor strength.
      Fryer: younger than 3 months.
      Roaster: 3-6 months.
      Stewer: older than 6 months.
I would also say that you should age the rabbit meat for at least 3 days in the refrigerator (not the freezer). This allows the meat to pass through rigor mortis, relax and begins to let the enzymes begin to tenderize the meat. Age the meat up to 2 weeks for a tough old buck. Then either freeze it or cook it.
The only time I do not age the meat is when I go straight from slaughter , never chilling the meat, and immediately season and right onto the BBQ grill with a tender Fryer. Mmmm mmm, So good!
If rigor mortis sets in and you cook it , the meat will be tough like chewing on pencil erasers.

If you put a piece of bread under your upper lip while chopping onions it helps with the tears

all you need is a few close up shots of what is on the stove to really punch the cooking and flavor home for the audience.

I'm so ready to try rabbit AND an Instant Pot!
Rabbit also seems like a much better choice than unnatural manufactured kibble to feed our LARGE livestock guardian dogs.
PS We like your other hats so much better-- this one is rather frumpy, not at all flattering.

I'm originally from Wisconsin too. But putting BBQ sauce on something doesn't make it barbecued. So many supper clubs in our area sell BBQ ribs that have been boiled and baked.

So I cooked a frozen rabbit in the instant pot with two cups of water on high pressure for 30 minutes and let the pressure come down naturally. It was definitely not as soft and tender as I had hoped it would be. I am new to using my instant pot. Should I try cooking it longer next time? If so, what time would you think would work better? The rabbit was definitely tasty and fully cooked I just hoped it would be more tender and shred easily. Thanks!

I love watching your videos. You should watch Netflix’s new documentary called Rotten. They have a whole episode on garlic. It’s crazy.

Funny how sometimes you cook Keto next time it's standard American diet. But looks great
