Our Plastic Mulch Retriever is a time and money saver-once the adjustments are fine-tuned. This video is a little longer, but it shows some aspects of what to expect when you first get your plastic retriever. Even though this is a longer vid, we were really only in the field for 45 minutes at the UF/IFAS campus in Wimauma, FL for this demonstration.

EVEN BY THE END OF THIS VIDEO, THE PMR STILL NEEDS SOME ADJUSTMENTS, so keep that in mind. Also, it will take a little while to get the timing of the driver and drum operator in sync as well as the blade/finger height adjustment, coulter blade height/depth, and sweet spot for the overall machine height/tilt angle to complete the perfect pass.

Soo, the first row had some dying tomato vines on top of the plastic, which created some snags. Going over the row with a bed mower first would have alleviated many snags. We also had the blade/fingers set too far apart to lift the plastic properly. And, the machine height needed to be raised. It was digging too far down and lifting too much soil instead of just mainly the plastic. The extra weight on the plastic was causing more tearing.

Rows two and three did not have any vegetation on them, just clean plastic, so these runs were better. We did adjust the coulter blade and blade/fingers inward for these last two passes, and lifted the whole retriever up about 3-4 inches. Also, the driver and drum operator were in the groove by the end of the third row. Probably need another hour to fine-tune, then this setup will be ready for a whole field!

We find if you wrap over the top you trap less soil and crop material in the plastic
