    The tragedy of all the lives lost at Jurassic World could have been PREVENTED! That's right! If they had followed the real world rules of Zoos and Theme Parks, we could be going to see some IRL dinos RIGHT NOW. Instead, I trudged through the rules and regulations to figure out how to run a SUCCESSFUL Jurassic Park.

    I remember Dr. Wu saying he used tree frog DNA to make the indominus live in a tropical climate so he could have done the same for the raptors to make them more comfortable

    • @thepikamence1250
      @thepikamence1250 Před 2 lety +27

      True, but then again the Indominus was essentially a prototype bioweapon he was commissioned to make. Having been taught by his time at Jurassic Park and his own prior experimentation with hybrids, Wu more than likely knew what the DNA he planned to include in it did to the animal's physiology, which in the case of tree frog genes would be to allow it to camouflage itself from thermal scans. That doesn't sound like a useful trait for cataloguing zoo animals with the infrared security systems in the paddocks, even though it's *ideal* for a weaponized chimera like the Indominus.
      If Jurassic World's geneticists really wanted to have the animals acclimate to a tropical climate, why not turn to heat-tolerant bacteria to fill the gaps that way?

    • @Delete240
      @Delete240 Před rokem +14

      @@thepikamence1250 the Indominus was never intended to be a weapon though, it was intended as a theme park attraction to keep their guests interested. Although it was a prototype hybrid, the first true hybrid they had made. The real weapon was the Indoraptor, as they said they wanted something smaller than the Indominus which could follow orders, hence why Hoskins was so interested in Owen’s research into the Velociraptors’ behavioural training.

    I just want to say that, the mosasaurs was actually in a shallow water tank. In Jurassic World, when you look at the tank closely when all the people get lowered down on the stands, you can actually see the bottom of the tank. Considering that they were only lowed a about 30-40 metres, the tank would only be about 60 metres deep. After seeing the length of the mosasaurs that Ingen engineered, the tank would be quite shallow compared to it.

    An important detail about the "Raptors" in this series: Michael Crichton wrote the original book at a time when there was an ongoing debate as to if Velociraptor and Deinonychus were in fact the same genus. The Raptors in the movie are explicitly Deinonychus, which are found in similar locations as T.Rex. As such, they should have fit in that environment as well as many of the other dinosaurs did.

      the movie raptors are also more visually based on the Utahraptor. i can't remember where i read about it, but i do remember that, although the first one was found in the 70's. it was 91-93 when the naming and bigger finds where, putting in during the filming of the movie. so yeah the raptors are based off Deinonychus in the book, the movie made them the closer to the size of the Utahraptor. and if i remember right, the findings in the 90's kind of paved the way for them to have the raptors be that big in the movie. but this is all rather fuzzy memory of stuff i read so many years ago as i was a huge JP fan

Back in 1989, when JP was being written, there was a debate among palaeontologists about whether or not D. antirrhopus was actually a Velociraptor or not. Michael Crichton likely used this debate as a way to be technically correct about his dinosaurs in the novel. Why? Probably because 'Velociraptor' sounds cooler than 'Deinonychus' to most people.

    Another interesting fact I heard recently was that all animals on earth that have had contact with humans have over time been conditioned to fear humans. It is why most animals would avoid humans rather then attack them. So if your taking dinosaurs that don't have this conditioned evolution built into their DNA then yeah....you'll get Dino attacks. So one way to make a Dino park work is to start with smaller predators and herbivores Dinosaurs and condition them over a long period of time to adapt to the humans. This unfortunately wont work for the larger predators but you could go as large at velociraptor as shown in the movie. Heck I think they were going pretty good with the T-Rex too. But as soon as they started genetically alternating the DNA they screwed up. Making a Frankenstein monster that has such competing DNA that would mess with it's cognitive functions was just asking for a mass dinosaur attack.
    Which leads theory to why the other dinosaurs listen to it. One it was a more predator predator then them with it exuding alpha tendencies so they followed it's command but also because they probably knew this dinosaur was coo-coo and would rather follow it's command instead of being killed themselves. I go with the second one considering that the velociraptors turn on said "alpha" to help the human that raised them and the T-Rex despite being less dangerous then its challenger and older too then this young buck doesn't bulk to its demands of obedience. The T-Rex instead challenges the buck for control as Alpha as is the natural order of the Dinosaur world considering this dinosaur shouldn't exist in the first place.
    But that's just a theory. I do like your take on this movie and agree to all your points.

    Actually the velociraptors in JP are actually based off of another dinosaur called Deinonychus. IRL there’s no evidence that velociraptors were intelligent or even hunted in packs, but there IS evidence that Deinonychus did Deinonychus also was a Dromaeosaur, the same kind of dinosaur Velociraptors are. Also in the original JP movie we see that Alan Grant finds a raptor fossil in UTAH, so in the world of JP, Velociraptors (or Deinonychus I guess) actually lived in North America so their pen is actually accurate in Jurassic world.

      If Hollywood wanted to use their dominant influence over educating the public to teach us some real accurate truths. That ship saled long long ago.
      Most people will not accept updated depictions of that extinct animals looked like if it violates the more popular movie version.
      Humans prefer the First version of something they learned and incorporated into their sense of reality. This goes for all kinds of things; corporeal and conceptual, from dinosaurs to Disney’s formula for what to expect out of relationships.
      Too late for the generation which learned it.
      Which is why it woulda been Great to see an effort made to update the New generation of dinosaur movies.
      Aside from the name change.. which yeah wouldn’t be ideal for their busines$ and merch, I think they could have pretty easily explained in 2 or 3 lines of exposition that since the first “Jurassic Park” used the frog DNA to fill in the gaps in the dinosaur genes, (as the plot device which allowed some of the females to change sex to reproduce) the amphibian DNA also had the less devastating side effect of suppressing the theropods’ natural Feather alleles, leaving them all which that boring greenish/grey/brown scaly skin.
      The NEW “Jurassic World” would (presumably) have advanced their genetic technology to correct for that sex-changing frog gene mistake... even though I don’t remember them ever mentioning it...
      But they could easily have said that the correction also allowed for the theropods’ Feathers to be expressed.
      And wouldn’t that be an awesome new aesthetic update to the predators !
      Check out some contemporary dinosaur art and see how much more colorful and interesting these animals probably were.
      (their feather impressions were discovered even before the 1993 movie so there’s really no excuse except concervitive aesthetics.)

    One thing I should add is: have Dino research facilities on a different island. The whole Jurassic World plot happened because they mixed research and development with tourist attractions. Isla Nublar is surrounded by four other islands like the panned Isla Sorna. Why couldn’t they use one of those islands to research new species and use the extra space to see if it’ll be a danger. If it responds well and isn’t a threat, they can be tranquillised and sent to the main island, but if it’s violent, then they can exterminate it without it getting in the way of the tourists, breaking out every dinosaur which was previously okay’d but are now just as big a threat as the rampaging dinosaur and create unnecessary lawsuits.
    And if they absolutely can’t get that right, then they gotta know when the right time is to evacuate the island. You don’t sit around and twiddle your thumbs when your house is on fire, do you?

    I know it’s been like three years but I don’t know why anyone hasn’t mentioned this, but the sizing for the rex on 3:50 is completely wrong. A trex isn’t 18 feet long and 40 feet high. Even switched it’s not completely right. An actual size of an average tyrannosaurus is about 12-13 feet tall, and 40 feet long. But for Rexy it’s larger, Rexy is 17ft tall and about 44-46 ft long. I don’t know where they got these measurements from but they’re completely off, but so are a lot of things in this video

    This video was the first ever film theory video I have watched, and now that MatPat is retiring I am so sad that we are losing such an amazing creator in the CZcams platform. But that’s just a theory… a film theory 😢
