They have explained everything pretty well in their festa dinner, the media twisted things a lot. The guys have emphasized that they are not breaking up in that and Namjoon and Jungkook have repeated it since then. They just want to take some time for personal growth and hope to figure out where they want to go as a group through that.
I feel like it's very understandable, they have been working and living together for over a decade now with little time to figure themselves out as individuals, it seems almost like they are moving out of their family home as a young adult again.
Also, they are still doing projects as a group, just not music for now.

they’re nowhere near to breaking up, they’re just doing what they’ve already been doing; releasing solo music, just more on an official level as they’ll be dropping solo *albums* now, not mixtapes like they were doing before. they keep stressing that they’ve been seeing the clickbait articles talking about them disbanding and namjoon wrote a long letter recently about how he feels like bts’ vulnerability in talking about their burn out is just being exploited by media to talk about a big group ‘disbanding’, when that isn’t the case at all. they’re doing this to stay together in the long run, they’ll still be continuing group promotions, they’re just trying something new for now. also for the criticism about them changing their sound, it really baffles me because life goes on was released amongst everything and they released an amazing album that felt like one of their most intuitive albums yet, w some of their best lyricism and even namjoon talks about it being overshadowed, it’s unfair because life goes on was an all korean track dropped between two english tracks, and wasn’t promoted or given ANY radio play literally because it wasn’t an english spoken song, but that’s all i have to say on it for now
Exactly, I loved Tristan's reaction and can totally see what he's talking about, but they have still been releasing such beautiful songs like Abyss, Bicycle, With You, Christmas Tree, Stay Alive and of course everything on BE and D-2 this whole time so I get SO angry when people say they're sellouts or money hungry or whatever in spite of the fact that we know now it's true that they've lost themselves and lost sight of their direction in the past few years
@@raspberrytaegi yes!! they’ve been releasing SO much personal solo and group music the last two years that most reactors *dont care* to react to, which i get if it doesn’t have much exposure i guess, but it’s still ignorant to say they’ve lost their sound etc. this exact criticism is coming from people who haven’t delved into BE or any of their other content released since dynamite so obviously it’s getting to bts themselves, who are literally being told from every corner that they’re ‘losing touch’ even though their music and sound has been more authentic than ever. it’s really upsetting to see this all go down and seeing the boys doubt themselves when their overall message has always been clear and never lost, even in their new music
Yes, I totally agree with you. Life goes on is such a hard-hitting song, especially given what people were going through during that time it was released. I feel like BTS's team is trying too hard to appeal to the Western audience. Butter and Permission to Dance were good, but you could tell that it wasn't completely them. It didn't feel as sincere as their other stuff (no hate, I love them). And, I thought I was the only one that felt that way about the songs. BTS just needs to stay true to themselves. People will love them regardless of whether their songs are in English or not. The solo tracks that have come out make it seem like they are starting to get back to themselves and their own style. Whatever they decide to do in the future, I will always support them like many other armys.

It’s also important to note that the translation in the caption of their FESTA translated what they said as “hiatus” however that’s not what they actually said in Korean! Just a mistranslation that unfortunately the media ran with. JK, V, and RM have all said on vlive and Weverse that they are not disbanding or taking a hiatus. They are still doing group projects like their show Run! BTS :)

such a mature and healthy decision by them, like namjoon said, they arent bts they are apart of bts, they need to find who they are and experience life outside of bts. their direction changed when things reached a more global audience for sure, i started getting into bts around 2015, dope era, and yeah just things changed when they reached a global audience on a wider scale, they really tailored to the western industry i feel like, not even just because of the full english songs, but that's defo an example. they deserve this break or whatever it is, very happy for them and cant wait to see whatever they do, even if it was a video of jin playing video games of 20 hours lmao, they deserve to explore, relax, grow and change freely

The thing with all sorts of bands especially K-Pop bands is that it can be very exhausting for the members and that would result in a few members leaving. We've seen this pattern with a lot of previous bands. Moreover everyone in BTS has a very distinct personality so maybe they want to work on their own solo music. So its hard to say how long this hiatus is gonna be but nevertheless we will still be getting new music from these artists and I can't wait to listen to more from them individually.
Jungkook has a solo song on the album called "My you". You HAVE to react to it, its great!

I don't know if you watched more of the video where they talked about the break, but they made their intention very clear, this is for them rest, work on solo projects and whatever they want. They will still do some things together like recording their variety show (Run BTS). The media has greatly distorted what they meant, JK and RM have even spoken out again and made it clear that they are not splitting up

i hope you watch the whole festa dinner on your own time (unless you already have then great) bc not only does it give a full picture of their internal struggles they’ve been having for the past two years but also i just find that watching a small clip that mentions the hiatus and nothing else is a bit of a disservice to them. they were very vulnerable, namjoon especially, and honest in a way that kpop idols are hardly ever allowed to be, their message deserves to be heard in it’s entirety. loved the reaction, all the references in the mv were beautifully done.

I completely agree with how you feel. I love and support BTS, but the music they have made in the past two years hasn't felt as much like them. It doesn't mean I don't enjoy it, it's just not as artistically compelling.
Tristan, you said everything perfectly with the individual part and how that got lost. i felt that too, and i am actually kinda happy for that kinda 'break'. especially when you said, they need it to remind themselves kinda, what each one of them brings to the group and makes it unique.

the thing that stuck out to me most in that live stream they did was the fact that they addressed the comments people made about how they were tired of the commercial english pop songs they were putting out and that they don't make the same music or comebacks as before. i felt so bad for them when rm mentioned that he was upset by that because they made those songs as a plan b due to corona and they really had no intention of going to the grammys or even ending up with full english songs and it was all due to the setback of covid. i respect people's opinions when they say they prefer bts' older music but i hate it when i hear people complaining that they need to make comebacks like before and that they're slacking with the music they've been putting out. they've been putting out music nonstop since their debut in 2013 and yet when they have a very valid reason for not releasing music like before (again covid) people just attack them like they're just lazy.

I totally agree with rm on losing identity as well. Butter was very focused on mainstream and lost bts’s true identity of not being mainstream. It’s a much needed break for the guys I’m looking forward to it lets. Support them guys
they didn't write Butter or dynamite, although I think it's obvs. they more input with Butter. I like those songs and learned about them from those, then did a deep dive into BTS and fell in love with them over their OG stuff and well, everything really.

I’m so excited for this new era for BTS, it’s going to be great for them to rediscover themselves and come back even stronger! In the meantime we’ll get some amazing solo albums no doubt! I’m so proud of them and how far they’ve come, and I 100% support this decision for their one mental health and growth and well being! The best is yet to come yes!!!

Hiatus was mistranslated!
Yessss Tristan making so much sense during the festa analysis
The label corrected it because the subtitles used the word "hiatus" even though that's not what Suga said. From what I've seen from translators on twt, Suga used something like "off season". In the Festa video they said themselves they will keep doing some groups activities such as Run BTS, so I knew even just from watching the dinner, that it's not really a hiatus in the sense that it's usually understood. I just initially thought that maybe Suga used it because it was the closest word he could think off, but it turned out he didn't use that word at all. Hybe was just correcting translations, because the media didn't bother to get context before they ran with that one word.
thing is a time off, or a hiatus is kinda the same! Hitaus isn't a synonym of disbanding though and that's how 99% of media makes it seem. It's a break from Bangtan as a musicical group, they'll keep making music in solo albums (and other solo ventures ofc) and as Bangtan they'll be filming Run again, but musically they'll stop for a while. Could be a year or 7 or as long as it takes, esp. considering what escapes their will (the E-word). It was gonna happen whether they chose it or not so gross MSM are having a field day.

Basically they are taking some break time . They will be doing group works too but focus more on solo works for some time starting with solo albums. Yet to come is a song describing their past, present and how it will tie/ influence the future, The MV is filled with references from past eras, bus from No more dream, chairs from just one day, truck from run mv and statue from blood sweat and tears, shoe and train from spring day and more .. Proof is a tribute to their 9 years of non-stop musical journey

Tristan - I think you are 100 percent right. I also loved their older work because it really did showcase each member’s strength and yet they still came together as a group. I thought it made them so unique. I also think that they are feeling the way many of us are - burnt out from the pressure of our jobs and losing our identity. Especially when you have been doing the same thing for so long (I am 55 and have done the same job for over 2 decades - I really understand where they are coming from. And yes. I am 55 and ARMY! 💜). I think what they are doing is smart and courageous. I will also say that I found that I grew so much as a person in my 20s. They need that space to grow; to become what is next and best for each of them. I have loved BTS for so long (J Hope is my bias but SUGA is my bias wrecker) but I have more admiration for them for doing this. We have seen other members of “boy bands” grow (Harry Styles comes to mind first) in ways that they like could not as a member of a group. I hope they do eventually return to making music as a group, but most of all I hope they do what is right for them as individual artists and people. Thanks for the reaction video Tristan. I cried so hard when the song just came out and I saw the music video. When I saw all the hints to their old videos and them closing chapter 1, I knew they would be taking a break. especially the line "Promise we'll keep on coming back for more" sounded like a dead giveaway to me.
This is about to be real dorky, and Tristan may never see it but I basically did not watch anything after the Festa Dinner news dropped and hiatus was being flung everywhere because I didn’t want to ‘react’ to it yet. This is the first video I’ve seen since all of that dropped and I’m really glad I watched this first. I basically felt like I got to react to the news with Tristan and you put into words exactly where I’m at with literally every single point. Thank you for so clearly and eloquently putting it into words and making it feel far more wholesome than what the news was initially!
THANK YOU! I‘ve been saying this since MOTS7 dropped, their whole vocal production has changed. While MOTS7 still had alot of autotune, it was done like in MIC DROP, where you were still able to tell that Jin is Jin or Jimin is Jimin. But now everything sounds mechanic and absent of passion.
I‘m glad they noticed it as well and were self reflective about it. I started stanning them in 2017 and went to alot of their concerts. But along the way they didn‘t sound like themselves anymore and I‘m glad they‘re trying to find their sound/voices again.
Respectfully, though, don't you think you too are "shoving BE to the side" by saying EVERYTHING sounds mechanic and absent of passion now?

The way they could of been on a break during the pandemic but they still pushed out content for us through it all, putting us first and even had concerts just shows how much BTS care about their fans. I can't imagine they probably are still trying to process how much changed since the the pandemic and recover mentally, yet they still are trying to stay positive for us. As someone who discovered them during the pandemic they seriously helped me a lot. I never encountered a group like BTS before I'm very thankful for them they are just are truely the best.
Fun fact, one of my fav artists MAX helped write this song. Don’t know if you’ve heard of him but a lot his music is really great like this.

Nice reaction and i would add that during this "break" i hope they also have time for themselves not only in work prossess but in their private life. They need to experience all the natural stuff all humans have during their 20s.
If u are interested in try to watch their Proof live mini concert. No effect in their voices. Just their beautiful raw voices with awesome live band and chorus. They performed Born singer, Yet to come and For Youth. They grooved and enjoy as never ! It was fantastic. 🤘

I agree with you, like Butter, Dynamite and PTD are great and I am happy that game them the recognition they deserve - BUT they don’t need english only songs and the fluffy stuff. Their true talent and uniqueness are all in their older songs and when they were telling their stories more than just commercial lyrics to please the american popular market. something I admire about bts as a whole group is how honest they are with their fans whether it is through music or them talking about it
With what you said about them accepting the criticisms regarding their older music being better in a way yea because back then they were making music they wanted but now it feels like they were pressured to keep up with the international army's expectations that they lost their footing, especially with trying to win a grammy but it is sad that they will take a break as a break. Still, I hope that with this not only they find their own sound as individuals but also find their footing as a group again.
Everything you saw in this MV is in referenced to their past or old MV's...from the sitting positions in the opening (Just One Day MV), the truck & container van (Run MV), the piano, the butterfly, the bus, the shoes, carousel, train, the angel statue all from their past MV's. No I totally agree with you, me and my ARMY friends have talked about how the more recent songs like Permission to Dance and Butter weren't aren't favorites. I felt like we had lost the close, deep intimacy that BTS' music is known for. So when RM explained it all, it just clicked into place for me and I think it's so healthy for them. I'll continue to support them always 💜
