My perspective is that I recently bought a 2006 6.0 power stroke and as long as it’s maintained it’s an amazing truck, but single is a huge yes because my buddy has a setup similar and has a big single and that thing hauls ass, I get a lot of shit and hate from ppl about my truck but at the end of the day it’s my truck and not theirs who gives a shit about what others think. Make yourself happy bro I love the truck and respect the build keep doing these videos and updates, I can tell you’re going to be huge in the future.

I had a 6.4 and lost it due to a terrible accident. Anyway, at the time it currently had just over 300k miles. I was always faithful on my oil changes and fuel filter changes every 3months and in the 11 years of owning it all I ever changed on it was 2injectors and my batteries. Everyone I know would used to tell me “ you have a UNICORN !” Now I have a 6.7 and trying to figure out what route I’ll be going with 👍

Doesn’t change the fact that you did have one of the few somewhat reliable 6.4s… it very easily could’ve crapped out on you. The 6.7 isn’t that great though, L5P or 6.7C are way betterz

I do not have any experience with the 6.4 or any powersrokes for that matter, I have an lb7, but anyways I talked to a diesel mechanic one time who was driving a 6.4 and he said that he had owned two and his previous had failed at 300,000 miles due to an injector sticking open during the winter, but he said that he loves them, he said “they are good trucks if you have money to spend”. • @justnsaliga8518

another big reason for 6.4s Self destructing is something called Drive pressure. How quickly the vehicle makes boost. the compound turbos make boost almost instantly which is really bad for a engine at low rpms. slam a Big T4 turbo in it and youll make more boost at the top end. and it would be easier on the motor than same amount the compounds make sub 1500 rpm.

I’m currently owning a 6.0 and my father had a 6.4 when I was younger. Out of the two the 6.4 was probably the worst truck ever driven. Sand would be created in the motor causing seizing and some pistons wouldn’t fire after about 200k miles my current 6.0 is a bone stock 6.0 with straight pipe and sinister diesel cold air intake. With proper maintenance it has lasted me 278k and still running strong I hope to drive it until the truck rusts away.

I loved mine and it was my first diesel. If I had the money I’d buy another 6.4

@@LBZeric I had mine oil changed every 3500-4000 miles and I added Lucas oil stabilizer to substitute a quart of oil religiously. Mine was from Texas and the frame was rust free and that was a buying point for me. I traded my 6.4 in for a Nissan Titan xd 5.0 Cummins love it but I do miss my 6.4 a lot. I’d like to get another one and build it.

Another weak point on these bad bois is the twins. Rip them shits out and put in a single kit with good tunes and you basically have a reliable 6.0 with more power.

@@LBZeric Not trying to beat on you or anything. I would love to have one of these trucks. I understand all the mods you can do to make them reliable. In all honesty you probably won't have a problem. It sounds like the previous owner did everything he could to alleviate any future issues. I do love how much power 6.4's make and how good the torque curve is. I just hate all the things you have to do to make one reliable. Then you find out the block itself can be a prob. At least the coolant filter will stop the sand.
