THAT IS NOT AN ASSULT WEAPON!!!!! That is a m1a (civilian version of the m14). It is a semi automatic 308 designed after the WW2 m1 garand.

Rifle is a Springfield m1a. It’s a civilian semi auto only version of the m14 military rifle. It shoots a .308, also known as 7.62x51 nato. Excellent find.

IT'S A SPRINGFIELD ARMORY M1-A WITH THE OPTIONAL STAINLESS STEEL BARREL AND EVEN HAS THE PLASTIC REAR SIGHT PROTECTOR ATTACHED TO THE REAR SIGHT. I OWN THIS SAME RIFLE AS WELL AS AN M1 GARAND AND ALL THE OTHER ONES MENTIONED BELOW. TRUST ME IT'S AN M1-A WHICH IS A SEMI- AUTO M14 VARIANT STILL IN PRODUCTION AS OF JANUARY 2020.

That’s an Springfield Armory M-1A rifle. The silver colored stainless steel barrel is distinctive. I can see that it still had the rear sight protector on it. That was someone’s prized possession at one point.
Army paratrooper for 15 years. The rifle you have is an M-1A which is the civil version of a M-14. The M-1A is only semi-auto whereas the M-14 is a selective fire (Semi and full auto). It's not M-1 Garand as it's a magazine fed rifle. An M-1 Garand is clip fed.

That rifle is a Springfield M1A (visible by the chromed out barrel) with a possible CASM M14/M1A RD Scope Mount and some sort of RMR style red dot sight on the rear (green piece where the peep sight should go

It is a Springfield M1A1 with a muzzle brake. It is a modern production, it does not have a suppressor on it as some have stated below. It resembles an M14, as an M1A1 and M14 look the same, but the M14 is fully automatic and the M1A1 is a normal civilian semi-automatic.

Contrary to what everyone is saying it is NOT an M14, it is the civilian model m1a. Which is very similar if not the same. But it does not have a full auto mode.

That looks like an M1 Garand
It's an m14, it looks like an m1 garand because they are designed very similarly but the m1 garand doesn't take magazines and is loaded from the top. It is definitely an m14 and that does seem to be the original variant of the rifle so that is a very lucky find since those tend to be hard to even buy in the first place due to them mainly being used in the military and not being sold to civilians. That is by far the coolest thing you have found and possibly will find since it is almost impossible for even gun collectors to get ahold of the original wooden m14

@@ou812tet19 The funny thing about M14's is that there only a hand full of them that made it through the cutoff date to make them legal to own. The BATF ruled them illegal and since 1986 they won't allow anymore of them to become legal. They are all considered a "machine gun" because of the ability for them to use full auto trigger sears. That one might be considered in a 'demilled" condition and called a battlefield relic due to its condition of being unrestorable. Hard to say.

It is a m14. Manufactured in the 50's as a new model of the m1 garand. This new model featured a magazine instead of the orginal top loaded firearm.

It's probably an M1A, not an M14 or M1 garand. M14's are full auto and made for the military, M1A's are semi auto and made for the civilian market, so a real m14 is pretty rare.
For sure, it’s not an M1 Garand, Because The Magazine Holder (or whatever you call it) is on the bottom, the m1 garand’s magazing holder is on the top 🥳

It's an M14. M1 Garad did not accept magazine. It was stripper clip fed from the top. M14 took a magazine. It also has a plastic from forearm cover which the M1Garand would have been wood.

That's an M14, it's not even close to being an assault rifle it was designed as a battle rifle during the early Cold War so it's more than likely A reproduction model. It's not even select fire like The Originals were. It's also not even chambered in an intermediate cartridge, it's chambered in a full power cartridge aka .308

That is an M 14, the M 1 Garand has a fixed box magazine that takes an 8 round enbloc clip while the M 14 uses a detachable 20 round mag IIRC. Also the M 14 I used while in the military was select fire (semi or full automatic fire) while the M 1 is semiautomatic only.

What you've found there is either an M-14 or an M1A. They're the same rifle but the M-14 is Military select fire and the M1A is civilian semi-auto version.

Gentlemen, Thank you for retrieving the rifle. From the video, it was difficult to positively identify the weapon but from the profile, the magazine well, stock layout and flash hider it resembles most an M-14 rifle in 7.62x 51 cal. AKA .308
Having found it where you did the probability is very good that it had been used for illegal purposes and will take the authorities some time to clean and identify it. Strange what one can find in a river!
