that's pretty neat.
There actually are some with razor blades inside. It's like a normal sink hole with a rubber booty and all, hole but inside there are a bunch of sharp blades spinning in a cone type pattern with the blades narrowing in from the outside towards the center going downwards. Also the blades are slightly angled for maximum shredding and self cleaning ability.

They add abrasive (it looks like sand but I forget what it really is).

in germany we dont have this and its all fine i dont know why someone need this acctually or do wash americans different dishes ? 😅
Well the idea is there for the small food bits that may fall into the drain, though it has turned into a "put any food in here, why not!" For most people here. Its fine for municipal waste water, processes out the same as human solid waste. More of an issue with septic tanks, though some is ok as it will break down fine in the tank.
Fun fact, they sell ones that are well over 1HP that can grind beef bones... I have no idea why you would eveb want that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
