- The Wranglerstar / ApostleP Gauntlet Challenge has reached its conclusion. Did I successfully meet the challenge, or did I fail? Will the CZcams universe witness my conquering glory, or mock me in ignominious defeat? Will there be cheering or snickering?
You be the judge...

Sorry for the 37-minute epic, gang... But please understand, there is another 45 minutes of footage on the cutting room floor :) - Věda a technologie
What a great video Rob, Truly excellent. This is the first 37 minute video I've ever watched beginning to end that didn't belong to Nutnfancy.
My heart rate increased when I saw my 940 cut phone book paper.
This is the only reply after this awesome video and all the detail work he put in? I've been a fan of Wrangler for a long time but.. I would have expected a little more appreciation from him.
I like your videos Cody but it's hard to believe that after all the things you can do you can't sharpen your own pocket knife. It just takes practice.
Thanks, my friend. Believe me, I cringed after my first edit and I was at almost an hour! I just thought Cody would want to see as much of the process as possible on the restoration of his beloved 940. I'm grateful so many others found it watchable and informative :)
There's something very fascinating about watching someone who is very skilled in an area about which I know nothing. I enjoyed this video, thank you.
It's not just your unquestionable sharpening skills, but your attention to detail and ability to disassemble/reassemble knives that make you invaluable. If you lived here in the UK, you'd be even more popular. God bless you... :)
paul greenwood You too, Paul! Thanks for the kind words, brother!
The mark of great Educators is not only do they know their subject matter, they also know how to pass on their knowledge to others.
You Sir, are a great Educator. Respect! And Thank You.
Dude gave a heavily worked 940 a damn mirror polished edge 😂
I never thought watching someone sharpen a knife would be so interesting and informational. Thank you.
Beautiful edge! I could see the tree limbs reflecting from its finish. I use a KME sharpening system and I am in love with the results I get. Thanks for all your tips and tricks, and keep up the excellent work.
I think Blade Aficionado would be an appropriate title for you. 😃
This was one very interesting video. I enjoyed it. Honestly, I am only into traditional pocket knives, but I really gained some insight into the innerworkings of these types of knives. I would say that anyone who sends you a knife to work on and/or sharpen, is most certainly in good hands. Very entertaining. Thanks for the lessons!
Wow. That was awesome the way you sharpened that knife. You gave it new life. Well done!
You have a lot of craftsmanship, you do amazing work!
Your edges continue to motive me Rob, I love your vids and channel...Merry Christmas Sir!!!
That's a pretty edge on a well used knife. Just got my own 940 as a gift from the wife, haven't sharpened it yet but will soon. Enjoyed the video.
Loved this video. Thank you, just subscribed. Hoping to get a 940-1 and this got me excited about it!
God Bless ☝🏻️

You have a god blessed talent. Even better is your gift for explaining to us laymen. You have a new subscriber and I have turned my ad blocker off.
Tony
Man you are a master at what you do.
When I saw the length of this video, I almost didn't watch it, however, I just finished watching the whole video. Very good job, well done.
Wow, what an amazing edge you put on that blade! I had no doubt you would succeed. Fine work, The Wranglerstar Nation is very pleased! ;)
Also I have a question about the drill stop collar, edge pro sent me one and when I use the drill stop collar, I find that I still have to manually adjust the angle of the sharpener. Do you have any suggestions?
That was when the blade was 154cm, do you think with the s30v it would have held up to the abuse a little?
rob, how do i know how to set the angles i just got a edge pro used though..but i don't understand how to know what degrees to sharpen at? can someone PLEASE give me some advice please???
Great job man! That is one well used (loved) blade!!
You did a great job showing the whole, honest, process. I guess that is why I stay away from folders:) Thanks for teaching!
Love your video, awesome pencil 😁👍
Thanks for going into so much detail. Great vid. So you use water over honing oil?
beautiful video man, thank you very much
Rob- amazing work on both knives! You da man!!
That really came out great ,beautiful edge on that .Gerry
Crazy to think that there was a time when Cody did not sharpen his own knife.
You are absolutly astonishing and might I say a marvoluse job on Cody's knife
That’s fantastic work.
what a transformation, that edge is beautiful...
thats an awesome edge! nice job man!
Outstanding Job. I know I am late to this party, but it never hurts to hear that you did it well!
Thanks Todd! Welcome to the party :)
Absolutely useful,thanks bro
Thank you for saying so, my friend! It's always good to that people appreciate our efforts as CZcamsrs. Glad to have you aboard :)
Apostle please answer.. on a brand new 940 what edge angle do you use?
Great job, good video. lot's of laughs too. I'm sure Cody will be pleased. please continue the videos I do enjoy them. God Bless !
That was like a clinic. Thank you. :)
Enjoyed this video! I also have a 940, still with the factory edge. Might want to get it sharpened one day.
Cody rehabs a lot of vintage tools and you did the same for his 940. Well done.
Where did you get your torx bit tool kit?
Excellent series man, outstanding work.. How much do you charge to sharpen up and rehab EDC blades?
Oh this is greatness.
Very nicely done Mr. TheApostleP. I was looking forward to see the outcome of your friends BM940. If everything goes as planned I should have a new BM940 waiting for me...Yay! I was kinda on the fence with my decision to buy, then went on CZcams to read reviews of this knife and found your channel. I enjoy your videos/posts. You kinda nudged/encouraged me to my purchase. I'm sure I won't regret it...looks like a fine knife. Thank you again. Keep the videos a coming. God bless.
KIND OF COOL HOW YOU GUYS HANG OUT & HELP EACH OTHER OUT
WOW!!! Beautiful job on both. You are the master of knife sharpening for sure. You definitely won the gauntlet thrown out by Wranglerstar God Bless you both
Love the pencil in background!
Are you supposed to use 2 hands when pulling back on the axis lock?
I'm 9 minutes in and loving it.
That's a good lookin edge I've watched some of your other videos and earned a new subscriber from wranglerstar
Wow you have the exact same technique as I do sir. Right on beautiful edge !!
I am trying to decide on which EdgePro to purchase, the Apex 1, 2, 3, or 4? Any suggestions on which kit or model to purchase? Enjoyed the video! Thanks!!
Thanks for saying so... It's pretty hard to make myself post a 37-minute video. Glad you enjoyed it :)
Boba-Fett would be proud of that 940. Mine is still a little too new, but we're getting there.
Great work brother, you did what you do!
By the way that impression of me was way off : )
Beautifully sharp. nice Job!
I'm really learning a lot from Watching your videos and I love the pink pencil.
Nice video!! I just bought a system close to this and I really learned a lot from this. That is a great looking edge.
It's good to see someone take pride in the work they do,that is really hard to find now days. there is nothing like a beautiful mirror edge on a good knife.I'm getting ready to buy the ZT 0562 and would like to have your edge on it. that's about my limit on spending on a knife but I think you should get a good knife for that. I like the Benchmade knives also.
Do you use an ultrasonic cleaner to clean your knives once taken apart. how do you center the blade if need be?
Greg Wallace if it’s pointing towards the pivot side the pivot is to long, so you sand down the pivot. If it’s pointing towards the pivot screw the blade is either over tight or the pivots is worn out.
Nice job, great looking edge
Should i sharpen my spyderco tenacious with a 25 degree secondary bevel with a 30 degree micro bevel? is that good. Please tell me suggestions. Thanks
Sloth Mc The Tenacious usually likes about 16-17 DPS with a 19-20 micro. And yes, I'm accepting new jobs and you'll get a mirror edge. 😉
was that bone handled fixed blade knife in your intro a case?
Okay ... I guess you passed the challenge. Cody's knives are in good shape & you have a new sub. Nice vid. brother.
I actually struggled with the question of whether to post that footage, but ultimately I figured you're a big boy -- you can take the heat :)
After looking again my 940 does not have a flat top of the blade so i guess i answered my own question but my mini grap does but i have been laying the angled portion against the base of my edge pro. hope thats correct
Thanks for the education. I thoroughly enjoyed the video
Interesting I had that knife back to Benchmade 2 years ago for sharpening and repair. I asked them to look at the blade play. They returned the knife kind of sharp and didn't address the blade play. From the looks of it I'd say then didn't take the knife apart. Perhaps they should watch this video to learn how to properly take care of a knife.
I am truly, deeply honored :)
I always get my knives super sharp with my stones then for some reason i lose that sharpness once i strop, any ideas to whats going on or what im doing wrong???
Probably lifting the edge into the strop when you are picking the knife up to do the other side. It’s important to, once you make a pass, stop, pick the knife up holding the exact angle without rolling the edge onto the leather, and do the other side. Only do 10 passes per side, any more and you’re convexing the edge, in my experience. Also, green paste is generally very low quality, I highly, highly recommend DMT Dia-paste, 1 micron. It works wonders!
Well done! Cody should be very happy with your efforts.
AP Which Edgepro did you end up buying. The 3 or 4. Been told the polishing tapes only last 2 or 3 times. Also wanted to know if the polishing tapes are really necessary.
Did I miss where and how you put the micro bevel on?!
Oh, Lord, no! This is a pretty delicate process, as you don't want to remove much material at all, and the keys are flatness and consistent thickness. I use a worn out piece of 800-1000 grit sandpaper on a very flat surface, making figure-8's, then finish on my strop. This makes the washers smooth as glass without compromising dimensional integrity.
Thanks, brother!
Rob, I have a question about washers. You mentioned in the video that you will not polish the washers. Is this because of the material they are made of or is there any other reason? Do you polish only metal washers or others as well?
Wolfgang Häussler In this case it was about material. I do often polish phosphor bronze washers for smoothness.
What's your fave brand for a leftie ApostleP?
I understand some are pretty awkward to open one handed in the left hand.
Great tutorial. Watched it from go to woe.
Wow....got to honk long before I sharpen my new bench made 940....it needs the up which I have bought diamond stones for.... But you are very good!!!
Excellent choice, my friend!
Hey what sharpener are you using??
Awesome polished edge! WELL DONE! he will love it. I hope you get some good business after this
Well done, sir.
How much do you charge? Great job!!
4:13 mile Jesus loves you pencil in the back!
It's the Edgepro Apex. If you look in my Knife "How To" playlist, you'll see 3 tutorial videos. It's a great system.
Thanks, my friend!
Thank you for that, David. I am a Bible-believing disciple of Christ. I am saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. I rely on the sufficiency of Scripture for my salvation and edification, and a personal relationship with God the Father, through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ, which requires no intermediary or intercessor other than The Son, in whose name I have direct access to the Father. Hope that clears it up :)
Really impressive skill display.
Thanks for asking. I charge $25 plus $6 for return postage for everything you saw on this video. PM me if you're interested.
Well im English, we dont get guys like you here. You rock friend
It's not so much the steel, I think, as it is the primary blade grind of the 940. The cross section of the blade is like a wedge, with a 10-12 degree inclusive main grind angle. Also, Cody's knife is very thick behind the edge, so it's kind of tricky to find the right edge geometry for good cutting.
No problem, Zechs. This system and the stones it uses are designed to be used with water. I find it actually prevents loading of the stone better than oil.
Cheers mate. Helps with my purchase.
VERY, VERY NICE !
I was so impressed that i bought the 940 and the spyderco para 2 and the edge pro because I have never !!! been able to sharpen any !!! knife. then I bought the mini grap because i didnt want to practice on my best 2 knives. so I have done pretty well practicing on my mini grap but still scared to touch my better knives. (oh impressed with your skill and attention to detail I meant ) I have a question for you. when you place the blade on the edge pro do you put the flat of the blade on the base or do you put the angle part of the blade against the base? might sound like a a dumb question but at 51 years old I have learned that the only dumb question is the one you dont ask. I am never going to be to old to learn. God Bless
Doesn't matter where you rest as long as it's easy to hold consistently in the same spot. Something like a PM2 you can easily hold it on the flat the whole time, but a blade that doesn't have a flat you just hold on the face of the blade.
@@carlosmatos9848 there is no flat on the pm2 it's a continuous angle from the edge of the bevel to the spine .
@@OsamaBinDarrel Yeah I meant to say the ricasso. That's the easiest way to sharpen the PM2 on an Edge Pro that I've found.
@@carlosmatos9848 I wonder if that'd work on a Lansky as well? I may try that next time I sharpen one of my Spydercos
@@OsamaBinDarrel The KME clamp seems to be pretty good at holding full flat ground blades, so I think the Lansky would be similar
Thanks for the comment, Justin! I suppose the Nutn influence does come through pretty strongly from time to time. Like many, I got my inspiration to participate in CZcams by watching and listening to him way back when. I'm from Fort Wayne, btw. Grace and Peace, my friend :)
Amen! Brother it doesnt matter what name we tag ourselves with or let or petty differences get it the way. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. Amen. Btw you have exceptional skill sharpening.
You are definitely a Master at your trade.
How about the table magnet to secure blades ? Your opinion
Cody fro Edgepro has tried to give me one, but after over 10K knives, I find my “manual clamp,s,” aka hands work the best. Muscle memory is a beautiful thing. It also makes you faster and more precise as you move the knife along the table in some situations. The magnetic table might be good for someone who doesn’t sharpen a lot of knives though.
