O. P. Dixit, what a charismatic man. The excitement and the boldness in his shrieking voice and bending himself up to the point where he can recover the blocked revenue that is owed to Railways.

This is quite a masterpiece editing right here and that too for 80s. Would have been very popular if it was made today in the world of internet.

What a contrast. When the tran departs the camera shows an old man and his wife. And then we have these two bandits in the first class yapping about green famine and assorted nonsense (i run into such fellows and (women) in new delhi with regulrity). Nothing has changed. Yet everything has changed in India. Many thanks for this post. Hari
Hari, you must be a philosopher or a person in uber state of consciousness. "Nothing has changed. Yet everything has changed in India." - what a line! The last journey I took in Indian Railways was in 2006. Since then, only memories have remained and they have gone stronger and deeper. Decades ago, we used to travel from abroad to my grandmother's village - that journey would take flight (from UK to Delhi), train from Delhi to our state capital, a bus from capital to village bus stand and finally our bullock carts would bring us to our ancestral home. Alas, nothing of those good old days remain (the generation - grand parents, uncles, aunties all passed away, home sold off, bullock carts replaced with Scorpios) yet everything remains in our minds and souls.

Now BBC stopped to make any documentary over Indian Railways..why?? because Indian Railways stations become so much cleaned, passengers becomes standard level, Train coaches, engines modified and cities too become better than earlier (1980s decade)...Britisher can not see the development in India hence they stopped to make further documentary over Indian Railways...
Clean and timely trains is normal to them, so why should they make documentaries for something normal, overcrowded un hygienic trains fascinates them so they made documentaries
Have you not seen the films by Michael Portillo - Great Railway Journeys of the World ? A few episodes were filmed in India. I have travelled a lot on Indian trains. In the UK the railways were privatised and are too expensive and unreliable
The Railway Department has kept the responsibility of cleanliness only to maintain its image, sir! The common people still behave like ignorant people regarding cleanliness and are creating filth everywhere. They are setting up shops through illegal occupation and buying fake and substandard goods. There is no control over the children! You should understand who is getting the railway premises cleaned and why you have to pay more ticket fare than before! Karma: The encroachment of outside migrants is continuously increasing in your area. Think about all this yourself sometimes!

True. The average starting salary of a Govt servant in 1965 was around 60 Rupees. I doubt even Class I officers got 300-400 Rupees salary, almost unheard of amount in those days.

This make me Nostalgic even though I was even born at that time.
seeing this I am actually so grateful that the disparity has gone down quite a bit today and the conditions of the railways is quite well now
