    Hard to buy a rod over the internet. They look nice but kinda heavy. Also the made in china thing. One of my set ups now is beyond awesome. Using a st croix 7-2 legend glass spinner with a saltiga 6000 from the shore/bank for trophy river stripers. Id be willing to check these out if i could find a shop that has them. Any around E Tennessee?

      As far weight goes, they are not a balanced and light rod for casting artificials. They are made for bait fishing and some trolling. They are built to live in the rod holder till strike. They are actually a lot lighter in your hand than most other “boat bait” rods, but still heavier than a graphite plug chucker. They do possess a feature that I’ve only seen in $300+ rods and that’s that crazy soft tip paired with good backbone. I used to use Seeker 7020’s which I love, but they’re $350 each. That gets pricey when Striper guys fish 8-10 rods. If you’re looking at casting artificials these are not the rods I’d recommend. Thanks brother!

      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 4 lety

      That’s something I would love to do, unfortunately I’m on a different body of water every few days so it’s very difficult to stay on good amounts of fish. Even though it’s for education purposes, the majority would still expect to catch a lot of fish for their money, and I don’t blame them. What water do you normally fish?

    Mike,
    I was ready to buy a Stealth medium-heavy, spinning model until I just watched this. Now I’m a little confused. I’m in the Boston area, and we do a lot of top water popping and jigging. We definitely live-line pogies, but poppers, especially early morning produces fish. Are you saying the Stealth spinning medium-heavy isn’t a good rod for this? Let me know. From what I saw, it looks like the right rod. Please give me some info on this rod regarding its use for casting lures like poppers, swimmers, and plastics. If this isn’t the right rod for that, please recommend something for my Baitrunner 8000D. Thanks.
    T.F.

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 2 lety

      The Stealth rods certainly can be used for anything but they were heavily designed for live and cut bait and some trolling. They are meant to be in a rod holder so they are not balanced and they are a bit heavy to hold all day. The extremely soft tip leaves you with very little sensitivity by design. The soft tip makes it difficult to work a popper because you have to yank like a son of a gun to get the popper to walk. If you’re looking for one rod to do everything it can be tough to find. I just finished testing my newest signature rod Rich Coulson is making for me. It’s mainly for casting plugs, but has just enough softness for decent live bait performance. It’s a Rainshadow Judge blank (which is around $200 at cost for the blank alone) so it’s a very high end rod. I don’t know of a less expensive option that can do almost everything like the Judge. For casting plugs and poppers the Penn International rods are sweet and pretty affordable. They aren’t great for live and cut bait though so that’s something to think about. Hope this helps.

    I usually chunk bait on the bottom or sometimes I’ll mooch. I use the big cat heavy and the striper series M/H, Heavy, and Extra Heavy as they can take the most weight. I usually look for rods that can hold MINIMUM 10oz as the current rips. I was interested in getting a couple of the spinning rods, but the medium heavy is now sold out. I saw on a previous comment you said the spinning rod was also going to be coming out in a heavy and extra heavy. How many ounces do you think each rod can hold?

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 4 lety +1

      That can be a tricky question. I love the Mh for everything, but I REALLY need the soft tip. The H can handle quite a bit more than the MH, but it comes at the cost of the softer tip. If you don’t care about the softer tip as much go with the H. They can both handle 10oz. so that won’t be a problem, go with your personal preference. Some guys like a lighter rod, some guys don’t need that soft tip and just want that backbone.
      The spinning rods appear to run a touch lighter than the conventional rods. I would go with the H spinning rod.
      Hope this helps.
