    I am very proud to say that I was involved in the design of these very impressive Striper Rods.
    These rods are specifically designed for using live and cut bait for Striped Bass fishing. From a boat or from the bank, these rods posses all of the characteristics needed to maximize hookup ratios and close the deal on Bass of ALL sizes.
    A very special thank you to Chip Bragg for getting me involved with this build. He played an Integral part from day one. The success of this rod design begins with him.

    I bought a extra heavy striper stealth rod and got to looking at it and noticed the top foot on all the guides didn't have much wrapping on it. I contacted Mike and he was nothing but helpful trading pictures of his striper stealth rods and steered me in the right direction who to get in contact with at ctf rods. Ashleigh got back to me very quickly and requested a few pictures of the guides. I sent her a few pictures that I will say were not of the best quality but she responded asking me to call them. I was at work at the time did I couldn't call. A couple hours later I got a notification stating that a new rod was being sent out at no charge. And to top it off I didn't even have the original order number at the time. The customer service is top notch. Thanks again Mike for your help.

      @redsoxwinagain2007 Před 4 lety +1

      blindabinda123 I build my own and suspect what you are seeing is just some variation in the epoxy finish. Nothing to worry about. Most think the thread on wraps matters a lot. It does not. In fact when we test our guide placement we use masking tape and load up the line. Guides stay put.

    • @blindabinda1234
      @blindabinda1234 Před 4 lety +1

      @@redsoxwinagain2007 naw it's nothing to do with the epoxy. There's only about 4 or 5 wraps of thread on a coupe of the feet. I've been using the rod and haven't had any issues with it. Ive owned a bunch of rods and have never seen such a small amount of threads on guides. But they are double footed guides And the bottom feet on all the guides have the right amount of thread so I'm not too worried about them breaking off or anything. Just seemed like poor craftsmanship to me.

    Great vid Brother, i have a much better understanding of all the terminologies associated with rods. From what i understand tho that a fast action is more appropriate for bass since we have to set the hook rather than let the ingest the bait/hook. Thanks again

    I snagged a prototype XH and it’s a near perfect rod for our river fish. Tip is right in the middle between the BCF M power and MH. With a backbone near a H power BCF rod. The rubber inlets in the Eva are great. And the double washer/locking lugs is a major upgrade from what I have seen. Good review man and another great rod lineup

Now, if I was going to throw a big swimbait (up to 8 oz. or big spoon and reel 'em back what would you recommend? I see the XH, separately, for cut baiting or planner boarding, would you agree? Thanks Mike!

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 8 měsíci

      I appreciate that brother!! I have lots of friends using these for throw all kinds of plugs and spoons. Now they aren’t a balanced sensitive rod for artificials BUT, I think you’re correct on using the XH to throw big heavy swimbaits because, let’s face it, there aren’t many light balanced sensitive rods designed for that. If there WAS a rod designed for that I would imagine it would be close to what the XH is or WAY bigger like a surf rod. The XH is strong as hell so I wouldn’t fret. Let me know how it works for you, I have a good feeling, but I’d love your feedback. Thanks brother!!! Code Smedley5 will save you a few beans and help us get some boat fuel too 😁😁😁👍

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 5 lety +1

      For casting large swim baits in open water I like the medium/heavy. It’s light enough to keep you from getting worn out but has that solid back bone. I would use heavy braid on it when casting near cover so you can stop a fish if need be. I think the heavy model would wear you out after a long day more so.

  • @independentthinker.273

    Which action would you recommend for someone for bank fishing?
    For myself I'm finding anything less than a medium heavy it's really hard to get the casting leverage and distance with river fishing with swift currents.
    The rods I normally use still have a soft tip.
    I just recently picked up the new Uglystik catfish special baitcasting rod. It's medium heavy, but it has a soft tip.
    You probably don't mess with those kind of rods. Especially since being a stealth rod guy. But if you have any knowledge about uglystiks in general I would love to hear it.
    I used to be strictly Shimano. But now I've switched over to Daiwa and now Uglystiks for fishing heavy river currents for stripers here on the West Coast.

      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 5 lety

    Thanks Mike. These seem great. I make my own when I cannot find what I am looking for and use Batson blanks. I may get a couple of these to try in the spinning configuration when they are back in stock. I need something I can cast tinkers and eels with up into the whitewash (from a boat).
    One wish for the casting models would be to spiral wrap them. One of the reasons I build my own. Most of my rods I also like a moderate to slow action and seems opposite to what is most commonly manufactured.
    What’s funny is I saw a couple of catfish speciality rods and started thinking how good a big cat rod would be on saltwater stripers. I just bought the St. Croix Mojo Big Cat and looking for something in a 7’6” length and ran into these. Seems ideal!

    Are you guys going to develop a spining rod series? I fish alot at night around underwater lights on boat docks and have to use spinning tackle to pitch my bait sometimes fairly long distances that a baitcaster isn't quite as good for. So I need a spinning rod with good power to pull these stripers away from the light and dock cables but I'd also like a soft top and I wanna be able to detect subtle bits as well. So is this in the making for striper stealth rods?

      luckylevi24 You would have to ask Catch the Fever for details on that one, but I can tell you that only casting rods have lure weight ratings on them.
      Although you can easily cast anything with these rods they aren’t casting rods. They are conventional rods meant to hook and catch more fish while using live and cut bait, mainly from a boat. They have slow soft tips. They are only 7’6”, have a gimbal butt and no trigger. Although you CAN cast with them, there are rods that are way better at it.
      Rod companies usually put lure ratings on rods for warranty purposes. I have a rod rated for 20# test that says up to 1oz. We both know that doesn’t help anyone.
      When the casting rods come out they will have lure ratings. 👍👍👍 Thanks Brother.

I'm not saying you are one of those guys. I feel as though you make your viewers feel like family me included. You are very genuine and that's rare. I grew up with a fly rod in my hand and taught my 5 brothers how to cast which were all older than me.. being a fly fisherman I absorbed my self in every inch of a rod more than most types of fishing but always despised the money and inflation due to the fact of yuppie crap. I've always prided myself in being able to outcast my brothers and yuppie friends with a modest rod and I feel that with something as simple as running a rod behind the boat were casting isn't a issue you can due that with shitty e glass and provide a soft tip with solid bend half way down. On the other hand let's think outside of the box and think of versatility using a rod for dragging bait and for casting out a fair amount of distance for heavy live and cut bait and umbrella rigs and so forth. I grew up fly fishing and trained guys much older than me after long days of shitty hanging drywall and framing from Alaska to Montana but as always try to keep it simple through grace amongst the little guys and it should be more simple in my opinion with rod dynamics with dropping bait and casting bait than a fly rod where as u do need a more versatile selection based on the fact the line puts out the lure not the other way around. To sum It up the market is focused on guides rather than the average Joe that can afford a couple of rides to serve a multitude of purposes and enjoy the great amazing thing that we call fishing.. CALI CATFISH KING's the medium heavy is rated for 30-50lb braid. The heavy is up to 60 braid. I believe the extra heavy is to 65, but you can easily do 90lb. They are VERY heavy rods. There are no lure weights because they are not casting rods. No trigger. We pulled 45 ounce Mojos on the heavy and they killed it!! I really love the MH. They turned out absolutely perfect. They have the best of both worlds. Soft and tough at once.

    Does the company weigh their rods? Was curious about how much the heavy and extra heavy weigh? Also when anchored up and casting out big live bait it would be nice to have an ounce rating. The lure rating isn't just for guys wondering about lure weight but also for casting out their cut and live bait

      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 4 lety

      luckylevi24 I don’t know if they have rod weights listed on the website. There will be casting and jigging rods eventually that will have listed rod weights and lure ratings. They can cast as heavy as the line rating. (Probably double the rating). They can handle whatever you can cast without snapping the line. 👍👍

      @@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS weight list is important when you can use a rod for bait and throwing lures.. there can be a medium between both where one rod does both but not specifically to one side or the other making it well for both but not excelling in one attribute. luckylevi24 These are definitely not that kind of rod. They are designed heavily for live and cut bait with substantial backbone for bigger fish. The market is littered with rods that are OK at most things but struggle with bait. That’s exactly the reason this Rod was designed. 👍👍👍.

      luckylevi24 I cast whole live Adult Bunker all day long on M and MH. Baits are easily 12-14” and as wide as your hand. I have casted up to 8oz on the MH with 30lb mono and trolled over 36oz. but I bet I can cast over 10oz if I had to.

      I don’t know if CTF ever posted the weights. These rods aren’t designed to cast artificials, so they aren’t particularly light and ultra balanced. They are mainly for live/ cutbait and some trolling, they are really meant to be in a rod holder. 👍👍

      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 5 lety

      Probably, but I personally like a softer rod for vertical jigging. The medium would be perfect for me, but I know a lot of guys like a stiffer rod than I do. If you are jigging suspended or away from structure I would use the medium. It may feel whippy to you, especially compared to the MH, but I think you would like it once you get used to it. Stiffer Rods will wear you out when vertical jigging and Often move the jig too far and fast. If you watch videos of the top bluewater jigging Guys you will notice that the rods are super soft. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for the comment!

      K SLAY FISHING That’s right on the line. You can easily use either. If you tend to like a lighter rod go with the heavy. If would rather a stiffer rod go with the EH.
