  • Now I've got two pit lanes, one for fuel and one for a pace car, I need to get a pace car configured. Mundon park is a UK urban themed track so what better than a UK police car as the Carrera digital pace car. Its got flashing lights and a siren, there's no excuse not to know when the pace car is on track.

Other than keeping your fingertips away from the soldering iron your instructions made it so simple. Cheers.

Really enjoy your tutorials. I can't wait to have a dedicated space to make my track more permanent!

Great tutorial Dave! When my track is done I think I will switch the led to the other side of the car and have a separate spot/ exit (where you have to change the led in the track as well) so the pace car doesn’t occupy the pit lane 👌🏻

I've got two pit lanes, the car usually lives in the other one, not the one I parked it in for the video. I've worked out if I get a single lane changer and put it in the right place in the track the pace car should then always end up in the correct pit lane :)

Nice conversion video Dave. I typically use the Carson digital chip for Scalextric cars, but they're really expensive. I have a few of the Carrera chips on hand, so I'm going to give this a go on one of my Mustangs. Thanks for sharing, and keep up the great work 👍

Carson chip doesn't do the pace car function as far as I gather, hence the Carrera chip.

Ah Ok, I wondered how you hooked up the roof lights, so you could have used the 26732 chip and not the 26743 in your car. I have an old Carrera Dodge Police car 27252 I want to get the roof lights to work, and it only has a red and black lead, and I dont know how to use the extra leads on the 26743 chip either.

I think with the carrera chip the flashing aspect is dealt with on the chip, the two leads providing pulsed current alternately so you should be able to just wire the LEDs in to each one and have them flash. That was my plan until I opened the Scalextric car and found they've hidden all the wiring and flashing circuitry inside the driver compartment (and blacked the windows out) with a constant live feed from the motor when running, so I was able to keep what was there and connect it back up. I do fancy some extra blue lights in the front grille at some point hence I stuck with the 26743 in this case :)

really good video, but I'm a Scalextric digital guy, due to the fact the cars are generally better and the controllers are generally better unless you go professional, admittedly the Carrera track is wider therefore better overall for racing, but may I ask, can you brake like you can on Scalextric digital with Carrera digital? do you have an lane changing button plus a brake button? I have never been a fan of the plunger style controllers on the Carrera slot sets, but that doesn't mean I'm right, just right for me ha ha.... the bonus for this is I can reverse engineer what you did and use Carrera cars on Scalextric tracks I guess?

I also took the sound off my BMW Police car - it got on my nerves, as you want to use it as a pace car you might want to do the same? and I just subbed.

@@jjharson7344 thanks for the sub, I'm using it as a pace car because it's a police car and I'm aiming at an urban street racing theme :) As for the controllers, not many people are a fan of them, fortunately Truspeed make a brilliant aftermarket carrera digital controller which does have a separate brake as well as the lane change button although I've never used the brake button for that sudden stop as my driving style is more about flow and momentum, but I'm sure it's useful to others :)
