I used to look down on bonds due to low interest rates. But i now realize that having cash on hand is so important - especially for investment opportunities during market crashes.
#4: The interest rate of SSB next issue is dependent on the SG bond rates the previous month (e.g. June issue rate is tied to the April rates), so it is quite easy to determine if the following issue rates will be higher or lower (just examine this month's bond rates). That's why I always wait till the very last day to apply. I actually have some emergency fund cash to deploy last month, but I can see the current issue will have a higher rate, so I waited out. I also let my family know about this, so they redeemed their lower rate issue last month to prep to apply for current issue. In this way, no need for extra cash to roll the bonds. Btw, we can only buy in multiples of $500, so if want to compound the interest, need to wait until it accumulates $500. Usually, I just treat SSB as emergency cash. Any interest earned will be part of my investible cash. 🙂
T-bills good place to park for inflation for coming year before global recssion hits nxt year. but still doesnt kep up with inflation, better to diversify with some gold as well.
@joshconsultancy hi josh I agree with you. However, one time I applied for 100k and I was allocated only 20k. To me this is a wasted effort. Too much for too little.
Hi Josh, do you happen to have an excel or google sheet for monitoring a bond ladder (which consolidates the bonds currently own etc) ? If not, do you have a recommendation on where to find one ? Thanks!
Goes to show how hard it is to make anything better than 3.33% consistently, never mind the wishful financial planning rosy thinking of 6% over and over again (year after year) on a much bigger sum to exploit the magic of compounding.
Problem is if currently already max out at $200k, u need to first trim the amount that u want to apply in upcoming tranche. Say u want to apply $50k, so u need to trim $50k off first from your current holding. But what if end up only capped allocation at $15k each? MAS should consider allowing to apply first and trim later.
Other than SSB, I am thinking of getting US 10 yrs bonds at 4.25%.. but not sure if 10 yrs from now, USD will still be at this level or lower than current SGD 1.35 when it is time for redemption.
Also tempted on US long dated gov bonds. But unsure if the coupons are taxed. Also. If not wrong, the local banks only deal on $1mil min. Can anyone clarify these 2 points?
@@joshconsultancy Is it necessary to wait until after early next month, then you can start applying for SSB again regardless of whether you sell the existing SSB in the middle of the month or at the at the end of the month if your investment in SSB ceiling is reached, i.e., $200k?
You need to be more clear with you question. If what you mean is using the ssb money you withdrawal to buy ssb, then yes you need the money to come into your bank account first before you can purchase
What I see from cases I handle recently is UoB, Ocbc and Citibank are all recommending PIMCO funds now Problem lies in how advice will be given forward, not the fund 👌🏻
@@joshconsultancy i just started to follow you and seen some of your past recording . Very good advise . Thanks I am new in investing and trying to learn . Normally I just buy blindly what the banker ‘highly’ recommends to me

Yes. Use ssb to store some war chest cash
Agree ssb and fd are useful for warchest , ssb with 1 mth withdrawal and fd for immediate

Oh yes. Can’t be 10,300 😅

My wife n i bought last Nov tranche at ave 3.21% ! This mth we will buy some SSB n T-bills 😊
Premier banking FD rates are higher. Thanks for info
What latest offers do you see?
Hi Josh, thanks for your video sharing. So what happen to our SSB if one passed on?
No probs 🙏 same as all assets in CDP. Depends on will
Just a quick question if you care to enlighten me.
1) I am past 55 years. Can I use my CPF OA to invest in SSB or must I use CPF SA?
Hi Cannot use CPF for SRS. If you draw out into bank account then yes. But currently CPFSA pays you 4.08% k. Consider wisely
Think will have cap. Mb $15k each
I find SSB a waste of time due to the unpredictable and often times low allocation. T bills on compeitive bid makes more sense for me......
Ssb key value is as a long term tool 👌🏻

Dont have unfortunately

Interesting point 👍

US 10y bond doesn’t have principal guarantee at any point in the 10y. The bond price can fluctuate 👌🏻 see it more as an investment

Hi Josh if I redeem existing on today , how long will the funds be in ? Any idea?
Start next month

@@angml1122good question, I’m actually not 100% sure. I think is yes need to wait. Anyone got experience if the system will reject?

Yo
never buy other's debts; especially singapore's debt..
politely disagree. The guarantee has a good value
Will SSB go up July?
My guess is same to slightly lower based on bond price today
My guess is depends on Fed 😂
Hi Josh, I wish to ask a stupid question. How do I exit the SSB? And best to exit on the last day of the month. Thks
The redemption period opens at 6.00pm on the 1st business day of the month and closes at 9.00pm on the 4th last business day of the month.
Yes. Few days before end of month typically. Will be paid start of next month. $2 transaction k
Just redemn if makes sense lol ... recall funds give them cai peng money
Does it make sense to redeem my ssb issued in Jan this year which was 3% and switch to this 3.33% instead?
Gap is abit too small imo
Can
Buy 100k lah what makes a difference on 10k? Kekekke
this time alot of competition, hope at least got 20k.
I’m also thinking there will be competition. Will discuss in awhile
Hahaha think your 100k will not issued fully
What can u so with 3 % of 10k lol .
It’s saving. Not meant to build wealth
What you think of PIMCO GIS Balanced Income & Growth fund (P-BIG)? Is it worth to buy? TIA
