Reliving The War takes an in-depth look at the WWF vs WCW "Monday Night War" era of pro wrestling. Week by week every episode of WWF Raw and and Nitro gets covered (including every match and every promo) to find out which show was really the best. Currently the series coming towards the end of 1998!
It's the night after WCW's Halloween Havoc and the company have a pretty big problem on their hands. WCW decide to replay the Goldberg vs DDP match from the PPV seeing as manyfans who bought the show didn't get to see the main event match. During the actual Nitro broadcast we see matches such Kidman vs Juventud Guerrera for the Cruiserweight title & Bret Hart vs DDP for the US title.
On Raw this week Stone Cold Steve Austin gets rehired and we learn more about the individual who brought Stone Cold back to the WWF. Steve Blackman takes on X-Pac, Gangrel tries his luck against Kane, and the problems within LOD 2000 continue to escalate when Darren Drozdov meets The Rock in the middle of the ring.

Everyone talks about how good this series is as a nostalgia trip for people who were there when it happened, but not about how great this is for people who were born after the war ended and want to learn about the lesser known moments and superstars from the time
Exactly, while also having it on a weekly basis just like back then. This is the most authentic way to learn about it now and in lucky I found this series while it was still going on
I am one of those people and this series has been great for someone like me who not only didn't know a lot about this era but is also a relatively new pro wrestling fan.
Im with you too, thought i was born before the wars started, but wasnt into wrestling back then. Now, this series has become such an important part of my weekly regime, with the thought of it getting me through the lousy Thursday workdays!
I was there. My wife and son weren’t but they enjoy reliving it with me every week
I hope it's meeting your expectations, to be honest, I can't remember much of it so, with ya on that. 😄
Reliving the war is the best thing on CZcams right now!!!

Be interesting to see a Reliving the War: Wrestling Bios versus Something to Wrestle With.
For sure
Your not wrong it's fooking awesome
Always been the best not just now always
Guerrero v Saturn getting rushed so Judy Bagwell can cut a promo is exactly why they ended up in WWE.
@@carter3369 We all lost when Vince didn't book Judy Bagwell v Vickie Guerrero in a wedding cake on a pole match.
What better way to punctuate an end to watchable wrestling than that match. Would have saved everyone from watching a slow death occur.
"DDP takes a DDT. He's gonna J.O.B on TNT". Brilliant.
Landmark episode. This was the very last time Nitro beat Raw head-to-head in the ratings. Their victory being the direct result of their inability to properly time out the previous night's PPV was just vintage WCW.
That the end of the era
Crazy that we still have so far to go and WCW never wins again. Even with the brilliant matches Russo has planned in the future.
Oh my gawd
And then they almost had a comeback but then the fingerpoke of doom happened.
@@zacharyscott6779 Judy Bagwell on a forklift match. A classic
It’s crazy that Shane is right now his father Vince’s age in 1998
I met Kurgan a few years ago when I was like 15 he was an awesome dude despite me being shy and awkward as hell (I was a bit star stuck as a wrestling nerd I knew who he was) got a picture and everything and the dude is massive all around good guy so personally love seeing him on Reliving The War
I feel like playing the N64 WCW games every time I watch one of these videos.
Great choice of soundtrack for sure.
Same lol
Thanks man! That's me with the "Urine Trouble" sign at 6:41! Love the work you do on this series, even more stoked I get a special freeze frame in the Parthenon of your Reliving The War collection! You would have loved to be at that event. The place was on fire all night! One of the best crowds and experiences I've ever had at any sport or entertainment event! Cheers mate! Keep up the great work!
Nice one. I laughed.
LOL I went a few shows back then (WWE/ECW) - always a fun atmosphere. Your sign was legit good - in a sea of often mediocre ones!
Despite how much I enjoy Reliving the War, I find myself looking forward to how creative the Bret Hart "Shut Up" segments are going to be on each episode.
One of my favorite parts of the video 😊
....... Shut Up. 😎
@@josephnicolino8529 I'd like to see a segment where Road Dogg is Mario in Super Mario Brothers 3 and then gets gobbled up by Boss Bass right before Bret says "Shaddup"
@@roccojamison89gooker51 sounds like it could work
Same
Maybe not the popular sentiment but Bischoff making them replay BATB 94 and calling it a Flair match is the ultimate heel move and I thought it was brilliant
yeah dont listen to this WWE homer. This was a clear WCW win but Austin nut sucker can't concede.
Smoky: Meow
Brett: Shut up!
🤣
Saturn was a low key great character to use in NWO/WCW Revenge. I had forgotten how great he was for WCW during this time until this series
There were so many under appreciated talents in WCW during this era. Saturn, Kanyon, Raven, Malenko…hell, even Jericho wasn’t overly appreciated at this time.
@@zlinedavid WCW really dropped the ball with their undercard and midcard talent. They had so many stars that could have easily main evented both television and pay-per-views. But alas, the booking team mostly focussed on the nWo and ran it straight into the ground with no closure.
@@zlinedavid the current WCW TV Champ, Jericho, wasn't appreciated at this time? That makes no sense. And Saturn, Kanyon, Raven, and Malenko all had far better runs in WCW than they had later in WWE. Eric Bischoff (in reality) is a HUGE fan of Malenko's, always giving him so much credit on 83 Weeks. To say he was underappreciated just isn't true. He's a former US Champ and currently a member of the elite Four Horsemen group.
Austin with no Wrist tape is supremely cursed.
Everybody, keep Bios in your thoughts and prayers. The next couple years of WCW are going to be very challenging for him.
We need to get Smokey The Cat over, he's got all the jam
He's already over
The irony is smokey has probably been dead for 20 years or so!

The muffugin blackman elbow with the bomb sound effect. I had to listen to it repeatedly and died laughing. Keep up the great work my man
Look at the execution on that chinlock.
Poetry, pure poetry.
This isn’t just reliving the war. It’s revitalizing the lost art of chinlockery.
My bearded dragon died, I lost my job, and in outta cigarettes.
Least I can count on reliving the war
The explosion from the Mufug Elbow killed me
I have the irresistible urge to walk into a public place, recite the first part of Road Dogg's introduction, and see just how many people tell me to shut up.
Why does this always get released at the perfect time? 😂 God I love this series!
I honestly believe that when Vince heard what happened to Halloween Havoc, he pissed himself laughing
Those Road Dogg/Bret Hart animations get me everytime. 🤣
This series could have a new episode every day and it still wouldn't be enough. 💯🔥
I actually enjoy the 'slow' build, which lets me 'relive' those times! an excellent dose of nostalgia once a week!
I don't know how us wrestling fans could ever thank you for the amazing work!!! Keep on keeping on brotha!!! We all love ya!
The mafuggin elbow 😅😅😅
I liked Bret Hart's WCW run, minus when he got concussed by Goldberg, of course. It goes to show how legendary he was as a wrestler. Because even at his worst, he was awesome.
After losing a close family member a few years ago Ive had bouts with depression, reliving the war and both of Jim Cornettes podcasts have had a positive influence on my existence ever since, I thank you for all your hard work and hope you know you help so many people weekly. Rock on wrestling bio's 🤙
I hope you feel better now, and if you're still dealing with your depression, I hope you get well soon, man!
Cornette's podcast is phenomenal
Depression is a hell of a thing to deal with as well as loss. Get well bud.
Sorry for your loss, hope you get better soon.
It's that time again. Time to Relive The War.
Wheel of morality, turn turn turn...oh nvm
The literal reason why I look forward to Thursdays.
Great episode as always. I usually don't leave comments, but I watch every episode. You put a lot of work into these videos and it still continues to be a blast going down memory lane! Your work and efforts are greatly appreciated. Cheers to you and everyone watching this show every week. Don't ever stop getting better.
The Mufug Elbow 😂😂🔥🔥🔥
I have binged every episode since Scott Hall showed up on Nitro. To say this series is excellent is a drastic understatement. This is the EXACT compliment the Monday Night Wars deserved! I look forward to this every week as much as I looked forward to Monday nights back in the day. Thank to everyone who has a part in putting these together.
This is not a ratings ploy.
Stay tuned, in just 15 mins you'll get to see a ppv main event for free!!!
Great video as always, Can't believe we're almost at the end of1998 and the beginning of 1999 of the series, Can't wait for you to do the Survivor Series 98 Deadly Games review.
I really wish DDP had won that Goldberg match at Halloween Havok. His Diamond Cutter reversal was so perfect.
In hindsight I think he definitely should have, too. Would’ve blown the roof off.
Would have beat just about any other WCW title change in the next 29* months.
It’s especially weird that it didn’t happen when you consider the next 2 months in WCW, and then the fact that DDP does eventually become champion. The main reason people who will admit to being involved and to not wanting DDP as champion will cite his age, despite him being older and less over when they finally decided to pull the trigger. And it would have been about the least-damaging way possible to end the streak.
Of course, WCW goes for maximum damage to Goldberg’s mystique.
DDP was super over at this time. Many wanted to see him win. Everyone knew the alternative was Hogan or Nash
This is by far the most consistent and insightful channel going. Reliving the best times of wrestling in this amount of detail is like experiencing everything again with a fresh mind. Great work as always.
"He then tells the Road Dogg to shut up." 💜
That got me, too lol
IMMEDIATELY ordered 2 of those Smokey shirts. I needed that laugh after a shitty day.
Turned 40 today and this is the best birthday present I've received so far...aside from the booze 🍸🍷

The brass knucks line gets me every time
1998 WCW: This was out of our control.
2023 Wrestling Bios: This, my friends, was a lie.
Thanks for the amazing content you pump out each and every week. You've made this my daughter's favorite show, who goes crazy as soon as she hears "YOU WANT A WAR?"
And that young lady will grow up with an appreciation for the best era in pro wrestling history. Well done. 🍻
@@zlinedavid Thanks 😊 she's only 1 year old, and already has adopted my love for music. When the intro to this series comes on, her face lights up and she starts headbanging. That's one amazing thing about being a parent.

The guy we need to remember is Test.. 14:34 This was Test's debut as the bodyguard for DX
Test was the bodyguard for Mötley Crüe
I knew right away, my mental image of test is always standing tough in shades lol.
I freaking loved Test!!! He was one of my favorites lowkey
4:30: And everyone's day was made.
Love the explosion sound effect after the Blackman elbow drop!
Much better than the Train sound effect used for Braun Strowman running and knocking guys over.
The Mu-fug elbow!😂
RIP Droz... I'm glad we get to celebrate your short WWF career.
Good work on the outro there. Know Your Role 4 AKA Corporate Rock.
Rocky's post-Nation Nation-descended theme. The new bassline that exemplifies The Rock's theme from this point forward.
The Nation of Domination was about the 1st Black WWF Champion By Any Means Necessary.
Watching The Rock accomplish this mission WITHOUT The Nation behind him will be a fascinating journey.
NOBODY expected The People's Champ to get the World Title in the way that he did.
I honestly damn near piss myself every week with the bret hart "shut up" segments. Gotta love the Super Mario crossover too. That was comical
These videos are excellent, but what really sets this series apart are the running gags. The Bret Hart “shut up,” the brass knucks that don’t look like brass knucks, guys getting their “little (whatever) smashed,” etc… The more you watch, the more you get, and the more you appreciate it.
I have a feeling that this is the infamous DQ Smeeque Raw. With Cornette confronting Russo about it and getting that response.
Wasn't Chyna involved at that time?
That was a few months back. Corny was starting to back out of creative at this point and was completely out by Christmas of 1998.
I don't mind seeing Kidman vs. Juvi. The Cruiserweights always put on some great matches.
the mah'fucn elbow 😂😂😂 that made my day 9:32
The last time Nitro will ever win a ratings war, minus one week in February 1999 when Nitro "wins" an unopposed week. Everyone talks about those legendary "83 Weeks", but starting next week we'll see the start of the "126 Weeks", or "111 Weeks" if you want to count Nitro's unopposed week as a win for WCW, that bring an end to the Monday Night War. Hopefully WCW can still manage a win every now & then on Bios' count (at least, up until WCW heads into its freefall in the latter half of 1999 & beyond), if only so that it can still feel somewhat competitive for a little bit longer.
One of the greatest debut! Smokey the cat!
Kind of landmark episode on Raw if you think about it, this is the first introduction into Shane O'Mac and the birth of the Brood stable. Countdown to Survivor Series, Starrcade '98, and the infamous Fingerpoke of Doom has begun.
For WCW, it was a very quick hill trajectory from Halloween Havoc through the end of 98 and beyond. Which they never recovered from and kept on the downwards spiral.
@@martynodonnell I agree with that end of 1998 is the beginning of the end for WCW. Booking decisions in WCW is what kind of destroyed some possibly great main event pushes. that and the inabilty to let the nWo angle go.
@@martynodonnellsomething happens after that
Thank you Wrestling Bios. I was on a break at work and decided to start watching Reliving the War. My boss comes in and see im watching this, when he asks what is this that Im watching every Thuraday. I show him and from there he decides to sit with me and continue watching this episode to the end.
He then subscribes to your account (you now have one more subscriber). Lastly, because he enjoyed this video so much and loves the channel, he gave me an extra 45 minutes for lunch and for the Second half of my day gave me double pay!!! Reliving the War is by far the best!!! Once again THANK YOU!!! Keep up the great work!!!
Tonight's episode, it's the end of the road for Nitro winning in ratings
I’m very interested moving into 99 and 00 if Raw does a clean sweep.
@@martynodonnell Yeah definitely. I'm looking forward to the 4th January 1999 episode of Reliving The War coming to the channel
The starting intro song sped up to x1.25 or x1.5 is such a banger.
Bruh! Mr. Wrestling Bios himself.... You have an awesome way of turning the most boring things into something exciting.
Starting with chinlocks and going straight thru Glacier and even the gang wars.
Also, you've turned midcarders into main event things that have to be seen. There's not a week that goes by that i don't look forward to the things that made me change the channel when i was originally watching the Monday night wars.
Alex Wright, Disco Inferno, the Biker Michael Liker's and the Amazing French Canadians(lol) are prime examples of what I'm talking about.
You've got these guys over(way more so than their companiesever tried to and, you've made these guys worth watching.
I already liked Raven and the flock, Steve Blackman and Ken Shamrock but now i really look forward to seeing them.
Your work is second to nobody and that's not my opinion, it's a fact, just ask anyone in this comment section and they'll tell you the same thing.
Keep'em coming and I'll keep watching.
"The Muffug elbow" lol 😂😂😂
Between that sound effect and Smokey the Cat, this might be the funniest episode so far
For the next SHUT UP

Respect for the Iron Shriek reference on the Camel Clutch. RIP to a legend
R.I.P. Droz 😔
Im 100% sure that Mankind saying "Socko" the second time here is the audio they used for the WWF No Mercy selection screen.
Once again blessed for reliving the war to be here on Thursday but I know it has been great for newer wrestling fans understanding the business prior and how different things were previously.
It’s still hard to explain the feeling that used to exist at about 6:30PM on Mondays back then. You knew the best time of the week was ALMOST FINALLY here!
I live in Italy and we didn't have any wrestling during the Attitude Era or the Monday Night Wars. Maybe some heavily edited tapes of Nitro on łate Night, but that was it. I became a fan when Smackdown was broadcast on national television, but we are talking Ruthless Aggression Era, right when Cena started his climb to the top. Reliving the War is pure gold, it's entertaining, educating and refreshing! Keep up the good work and keep on doing heavy horsemen business!

i Absolutely Love this moment of The Hitman, wasn't too thrilled with the storyline but his reactions during certain segments were pure gold.
An Absolute Legend just like Wrestling Bios.
😄👍
This series has the best opening, it really captures the monday night wars
Thursday's are awesome. You made the first shirt I am going to buy! Update - Just bought it! Can't wait to rock it out I am wearing this in a future skit on my channel.
Wild, despite all of WCW's self destructivemess up to that point that Goldberg DDP replay was the widest quarter hour ratings gap of the war and highest quarter hour rating period when it aired. Yet they end Goldberg's streak 2 months later and never again give him the world title, despite them then losing the war by a landslide and millions.
My weekly remembering high school days ..thanks as always bro❤
RIP Droz!
I can't wait to see an unearthed interview with Bret where he blames Smokey the cat for ending his career because he hurt his back scooping his litter 😼
Horus Hogan looked like a kid standing next to a guy in a Mickey Mouse suit at Disney World at 10:25
Nash never comes out from that hole in the wall cuz the Shock Master is back there and he keeps every soul that dares to bust through a WCW wall!!
The music when Alex is in the ring 😂
I remember this episode of Nitro vividly because of how it lit up the dirt sheets, but not in a good way.
Prowrestling Journalists were desperately scouring the internet and asking their sources to determine whether or not the WWF had accused WCW of deliberately ending their PPV early to bait viewership for Nitro.
They found nothing, and they were pissed off. It's especially stupid when you recognize that WCW did end up using their lack of ability to air a PPV responsibly to try to bait viewership for Nitro.
I get that WCW did what they had to do by giving the fans the DDP vs Goldberg match. But like Ryan said, they should have aired the match during the uncontested hour to prove that they were serious about only presenting the match in the interest of altruism.
In the end, the bloggers were focusing their reporting on how it was a flat-out lie that the WWE had made any effort to accuse WCW of deliberately ending their PPV feed.
Kaientai were one of my favorites, I always mark out for Funaki on the Japanese broadcast team. #1 ANNOUNCER
The "Shup Up" skits get better and better 😂
RIP Darren drozdov (droz)
Can’t comment enough, but the Road Dawg & Bret edits is something I look forward to 😂😂😂😂😂
Wake up babe, a new Wrestling Bios shirt just dropped.
Thanks to the PPV feed cutting off before the main event, Nitro viewers got a treat by replaying the Goldberg & DDP match from Halloween Havoc. Hence the 5.1 rating for that episode of Nitro.
I was watching Nitro, every week at this point. Mostly because we didn’t have the channel for Raw. I was a huge Goldberg mark and thought it was cool they gave away the PPV main event for free. However the fans who paid for the PPV had every right to feel ripped off.
