The WWF had been the most popular weekly wrestling television show in America since it's debut in 1993. In 1995, World Championship Wrestling and Eric Bischoff brought a new Monday Night wrestling show to television screens that would compete directly with Vince McMahon, The WWF and Monday Night Raw. This show was named WCW Monday Nitro, and it made it's debut on September 4th 1995. On that same evening, Raw did not air on TV, so WCW and the Nitro show was able to deliver a wrestling television show completely unopposed and unchallenged.
The next week though, on September 11th 1995, both WCW Nitro and WWF Raw would air their Monday night television shows. WWF Raw was taped while WCW Nitro was live, and this would be the very first time both Raw and Nitro went head to head in the Monday Night War television ratings battle. This mini documentary from Wrestling Bios looks at both of these wrestling shows while comparing all the matches and all the promos.

@@markula_4040 that's exactly what I've always thought too. WWF in 1995-1997 was getting really corny and there were only a handful of superstars even worth watching.

If you binge all of 93 and 94 Raw plus the ppvs up til Sept 95 for the first Nitro it gets kinda crazy but it is doable
Im subbing to WWE Network so I can watch the weekly Nitro Raw and ECW shows from 95 onwards
Back when I was a younger all I got was Raw, Nitro and some of the PPVS. So I missed out on quite a lot and im certainly not interested in anything modern WWE has to offer. So il go back and watch all the classic old stuff.
Shyt it was took years off my 38 year old life lol
2 years and 124 episodes later along with the separate PPV episodes, one of the greatest content series on CZcams!
Although I'm not a hardcore wrestling fan, I love the stories of the backstage politics of everything. You have an amazing channel and clearly love what you do and are a great storyteller. Keep up great work, looking forward to the next one.

I have a respectable knowledge of wrestling, I know most of the main performers and am interested enough to have opinions about favourite performers. But know that there are people out there who love it so much more than me. Religiously watch this, OSW Review and Wrestling with regret. Also just finished the Wrestling Territories mini documentaries.

Scott Norton is one of the most criminally underrated 90's wrestlers. He wasn't booked well in America (WCW) being used mostly as a background filler piece of the nWo, but his work in Japan stands up today, around 25 years later.
Scott was a beast. I use to use him and Brian Adams in the WCW vs the World video game. Would completely smash people.
I cant believe what this series has grown into! This is the Genesis of what you have created my friend. You have and continue to do a fantastic job. Between "Disco Fever" "The Big Bratwurst" "Chin Locks" "The Jam" "Shawns Fanny Pack" "Dirty Old Assholes" and "Steve Mufuggin Blackman" I cant imagine you ever dreamed it would get this big. Continued success my friend and long live the War!
Definately a series to continue. To gradually watch the monday night war from week to week...the highs and lows for both companies....it'll be fun to relive it

Didn’t they use to have that, on WWE NETWORK? I haven’t had WWE NETWORK in awhile cause my Samsung TV is old and it won’t allow Streaming WWE. But I remember my friend had WWE 24/7 that was awesome. Then when WWE Network launched I was there right away to Subscribe.
How is the Network now, is it better or nah? Last time I left it they had AWA, Smokey Mountain, NWA, WWF Coliseum Home Video, they had nice collection.

@@lazarorodriguez5161 you can go check.... right now you can actually watch a some of the network for free (and i don't mean like 1 month free... just plain old free) and basically see the entire setup, just most of the PPVs and recent shows have a "lock" on them that you can't watch without a current membership. watch.wwe.com should work on whatever device you are posting from i would think.. (i'm really not recommending you actually pay for it tho... might be worth one monthly payment then cancel again, maybe)

But by the late 90’s early 2000’s he got rid of almost everything, smh 🤦♂️. I Begged him not to give it away but he did. They came in the Original box and all that. Once DVD 📀 came out my Pops wanted nothing to do with VHS 📼 and now with streaming forget it about, he don’t watch DVD 📀 anymore rarely. Once I get my TV 📺 situation fixed I’m gonna buy a VHS 📼 Player and start looking for old Wrestling VHS TAPES.
I’ve seen this interview with Stevie Ray from Harlem Heat as he talking I couldn’t help but notice all his WCW VHS 📼 Tape Collection. Wild 😜!!!
I love technology and streaming but nothing beats a VHS 📼 or DVD 📀 especially the box that they come in! Miss these days!

Todd Pettingill was PERFECT for what they were going for at the time, haha. I always loved him and thought of Michael Cole as the new Todd Pettingill for alot of years ha.
David Jackson yes good all Todd Pettingell was the man lol an was perfect for that time in wwf I agree an every time I hear the intro music at the beginning of these videos I always think about Todd an the PPV match card when he would recap who was fighting an ect
I couldn't stand Todd Pettingell. Even back then as a kid i always thought he was just too goofy and too much wannabe-funny. Total pain in the ass!

I think I was about five years too old to find Todd funny. I do appreciate the energy and enthusiasm he had doing pretty much anything, though. That could not have been easy during one of the worst periods in WWF/E history.

Been watching for months now, as I HAD to start from the beginning. I've seen every episode of Raw and Nitro during those era's, but it's amazing to go back and watch them again with narration. Much praise, thanks, and appreciation.
This is probably the most consistent wrestling channel in terms of producing quality content
Man love the series decided to come back to the start for a bit, and man I was always confused why you said you didnt like some of your older videos and compared to todays i can see why. Its not that this is terrible or anything but Youre so much more confident sounding now and energetic. I doubt you'll ever read this, but if you do I Just want to tell you how great you've become over the last 3+ years
All right, ive just been randomly playing episodes of this series while i eat breakfast. So now i will watch them in order.
I know I'd love to see more segments on it. I know the The Monday Night Wars that the WWE did were more overviews and in general, I think having a more perspective analysis of the Monday by Monday look at each shows from a retrospective would be great. I know I would watch Nitro, switch to Raw and watch it that way which was why I enjoyed Mondays coming home from school.

It's got to be a lot of work putting one of these together, but if you're up to it, I'd certainly enjoy watching it. This one was great! I forgot both shows were only 1 hour each back then. I used to watch one live and record the other onto VHS. They were on head-to-head in my area. Great job as always, sir!
thanks for this! would love to see more. it wasnt until i watched an Eddie Guerero match by chance that i really started to channel switch between raw and nitro. At this point i felt Hogan and Macho had given wwf their best years and had no interest in what they were doing. It was wcw's midcard that got me into the brand. Benoit, Alex Wright, La Parka, Jericho were phenominal and underused.
That's what was so great about WCW and the WWF shows, you could always record WCW programming because they played it not once, but twice on Mondays and Thursdays. So you could watch RAW and Smackdown, then either catch the later rebroadcast of Nitro and Thunder, or just record it and watch it back later.
Sting vs Shawn Michaels would have been a great wrestlemania main event
I'd totally watch a weekly breakdown of this. Keep it going right up until WCW got bought out and you'd have some amazing binge watching for your channel (not that you don't already).
I'd love to see the next week reviewed. It's a nice time capsule to that time in my life. Though I think it's about when I started to check out of wrestling. So it's nice to see the old faces in "new" matches.

4. The push of mid carders from the start to the main event.
5. The arrogance of Bischoff, thinking 83 weeks will last forever.

A weekly series like this is pretty ambitious but a great idea. especially if you're able to dig a tiny bit deeper and find the ratings for each show and give sporadic recaps of storylines and on-air content to contextualize the rating shifts. A deep dive of the Monday night wars on its own playlist (or even a second channel might open another revenue stream for you? Idk that much about youtube) That would be super ambitious but your channel is A+ and I'm sure you have the ability to pull it off if you can find the time. Count me as a fan either way, keep up the great work!
I loved it and make me think what I missed cause I didn't had cable so I missed the 1st few month of the Monday Night War. If I was watching it I would've watched Nitro for the novelty.

I remember watching the first Nitro. As a 10 year old, I thought it was awesome. It was a big surprise when Lex came in and Hogan was finally doing something. Before Nitro, Hogan only wrestled on PPVs.
Yep, I was 10 as well. I remember nitro more than wwf. I always watched nitro more from that point on. Eric got me with Lex being there.

Thankyou for taking ths time to put all this together. I used to watch the monday night wars with my pop when I was in middle school. I was a more WWF fan back then but thanks to channels like this I enjoy seeing and realizing that wcw was better.
Whether it's 1985 or 2019, Ric Flair looks 60 years old.
Nitro with Hogan and Macho Man was what got me into wrestling in the first place. I never even saw an episode of Raw until 1998.
12:56 - the jobber on Raw and Savage on Nitro have the same style of attire, crazy colorful pattern on one half and solid color on the other half. Nice bit of symmetry there.

I know it just started subscribing to your Channel but I have not regretted one moment of it. I really love the fact that you're never biased you always give a look into wrestling when it truly was at its peak. I absolutely 100% hope that you continue the Nitro versus Raw War and keep it running because let's face it all fans love to be nostalgic and it's kind of hard to be nostalgic about wrestling 5 years ago 14 years ago. It's just not the same anymore and it feels good to go back to my childhood. I was 10 in 1995 and I absolutely loved this video. "Keep it up brother"

Back when Undertaker won the title from Hogan at Survivor Series 1991 i was 6years old, so by the time the Monday Night War started and finished i was an ideal age and your videos help me remember things i would have otherwise forgotten about.
