Radhakrishnan says that the caste system still persists in today's India and that bringing the Sengol, which was a symbol of autocratic rule, to a democratic establishment like the Indian parliament was testimony to this fact.

This is why it is important to bring in the Creamy Layer clause in the Reservation allocation. Creamy Layer will include such higher caste in the SC/ST tribes along with families who have already enjoyed Reservation for a generation. Today there are many instances of individuals who have grandparents who enjoyed the Reservation, Parents also enjoyed Reservation and they too are enjoying Reservation, while there are many others who have no access to the Reservation due to the limited seats available.
And as for the Religious Identity, Caste Identity, etc. the minister missed out on an important Identity. Political Identity. There are many people who identity as a Congress or a Communist without actually putting any thought into it or understand the politics of these parties. So you are just replacing one Identity for another.
There is provision in the constitution to remove castes from the SC/ST list.. All these Sanghis will say we don't need reservation and all that, but then when it comes to actually removing these castes from the list, no politician has the balls to do it. Keep the deserving communities in the list, remove the others. The current NDA government too has added more and more underserving communities into different reservation list.

disparate social system of the past. With increased communication, mobility and interaction, the distinction would naturally subside. Also, institutionalising the division over generations increasingly has no basis. So, a natural death is inevitable if an artificial framework is not laboriously held it back.
