This transmission works amazing. If only Honda put it into a quad with better suspension travel. I hated automatics till I tried my buddies Rubicon.I loved it and went out and bought one. 13000 km later and not one problem with the engine or transmission. Once you go Hondamatic.. there's no going back to shifting gears or belt driven automatics.Just like the auto trans in a car but smoother.
I own an 2006 Rubicon that is in the 6 thousand km, I use it mainly for firewood I made my own snow plow often I pull a trailer loaded of dry standing firewood attached to a 4 weel wagon hooked up to the quad and I pull both with no problem
my 2011 rubicon 500 will not start the starter hits one time and quits cranking, does this sound like a starter issue or a solnoid issue, anyone have a suggestion
I have a 2003 honda matic 500 the push start don't work but pull starts then shifter don't work only for few minutes them start to flashing esp blink and only. Run on low gear any help be helpful
Me too. They should have provided the tranny its own fluid. Too many people didn't change oil. My 2001 Rubicon was faster and had a better tranny than my 2016 ruby with dct. Love my locker and irs though
@@justinp4344 100% agree I didnt know for a long time. My 06 400at used the oil as hydraulic fluid when I found that out I was changing my oil almost monthly just for my own peace of mind.
I have one that has went out or something. It'll take off in forward or reverse then start grinding and stops soon as you give it gas. Thought it might be the hondamatic transmission but it's doing it in reverse also. Any ideas?
HI I have a 2011 trx420fpa it goes in to gear hard and while going in automatic it will jump from second into fourth or fifth?? what is possibly wrong. HELP!
I have a 2002 650 rincon some times it wont go at first when you try to go back or front it seems to ack like a transmission that needs to have the filter changed, could this be true in my rincon
I noticed there’s bearings on both swash plates + both piston barrels when looking at a diagram. Anyone know where the actual input relative to the pump side is? What is driving it? In the schematic looks like swash plate rotates around a given angle, but doesn’t wobble. What transfers the torque from the outer casing to the output shaft?
The pompe swach plate does not rotate, anly ther angle change. In motor side the pistons rotate. In the other side the pistons are shifted with the output, the plat is static

i think when the pompe plate is perpendicular to the motor shift, the output speed shoud be zéro (The gear ratio 1/1 ?! 🙄). The engine brake is not possible I think 😅(In vacuum the fluid transforms into Gas🤔)
I got a kit a bunch of years ago now for my 2001 Rubi. Used to be made by Warn but now made by Wide Open. Search this (Drive Shaft Switch Out by Wide Open for Honda Rubicon 500 4x4) or this (Honda Rubicon 500 DSSO / Warn 424) rather not post the links & you'll find what you're looking for.
@@Jthumper You seem to have a little misconception. The "hondamatic" 70's and 80's streetbikes were just normal dog clutch transmissions that only had a 2 gears, and high and low. The difference was that instead of a normal clutch pack they had a small automotive-like torque converter so that you could just put in high or low and use the throttle from a stop due to the torque converter in the clutch cover side case. Everything about the engine was the same as a normal motorcycle engine except they used a torque converter instead of a manual clutch and only had 2 gears. This hondamatic four wheeler on the other hand has an entirely new hydraulic system that in no way resembles or is similar to the torque converter used in the 70's and 80's streetbikes.

Ig i got the bad one out 😂 they are good till they arnt and good luck fixing it
Dudee my rubicon haves more than 50k miles and still’s runs good
Honda engineers never cease to amaze me.
All I know is that they work very well!
Smoothest transmission in an atv
Seen one of these at a rally the other day 34000 km original engine build.

Sure wish they kept this trans in the new 2015 rubicons
much better than DCT but drastically more expensive to build

I only miss the part how the output axe is driven.

Centrifugal clutch mine did it too changed and good to go

Shit design or bad maintence
I hated my homdamatic soooo many problems, sold it for a foot shifted TRX450
Best automatic transmission in a ATV, it’s a shame they got rid of it.
Because the bearings fail and are not replaceable. Then the hondamatic unit costs as much as buying another used ATV.

ahmed bout so does the pump side plate wobble like in the video ? How would the pump side press down on the pistons to transfer the fluid?

Put this in a bike or scooter?
They did in the late 70 and 80 people hated them
could this transmission be transplanted into a motorcycle ?
that's where his trans was born, in early 70's Honda 400 street bikes
@@Jthumper actually it was even before that! The Hondamatic transmission made its debut in March 1968 with the new N360 AT model.
