Honda TRX Hondamatic - Troubleshooting Good Hondamatic vs. Bad Hondamatic

Hey everyone - Long time since I uploaded a video. I found that there doesnt seem to be any videos out there that actually have the part in hand and gives you a good look at the thing so you can make any determinations that the Hondamatic you have is bad. This is my first time working on one, so I didnt know what I was looking at & things that looked bad, were not really the bad portions of the part. I hope this helps you out, you basically get two looks at the Hondamatic before you have to split the cases, one from the clutch side & one from the alternator side. The motor sounded like hell, but supposedly shifted ok, I have found that pulling the motor is less work than trying to do the work on the floor.....With this video, it should have you to a point where you can make a confident decision on going further with the repair and making the purchase of the part.

Good Work There👍Well i Worked at a Honda Dealer Doing What your Doing For 14 Years ! Probably in that Time Only Around 3 Hondamatics Needed Replacing ,I Did a Pdi OnnA Brand New One And it Broke on Test Ride,But That Engine and Trans Was One of the Most Reliable Honda Made.
The Way it is So Smooth Shifting and Under Power No One Else Had Anything to Match it And The Idea Came from a Milling Machine Drive
The Hindamatic Is Very Expensive to Make And Thats its Downside.
That Unit is A big Lump and to Have That in the Engine and IOnly Running on the 5litres of Engine Oil Says Something About How Clever Honda Are.
10 Speed Smooth under Power Shift and Full Engine Braking !!! Thats Some Trans in an Atv One of my Favourites,Better than Belt Drive CVT Rubbish on Can Ams That i Also Worked on.

The Hondamatic pump (motor) can be rebuilt but you have to replace the bearing in the swash plate with a metal one not the plastic bearing.
Also replace the oil pump with a updated oil pump or your asking for problems. The relief valve on the oil pump for the 01-04 are known to go bad.

I have had a 2004 honda matic 500cc im glad i sold it it pops pops pops on reverse and only goes on second gear im glad i sold it and get my money back

When you're putting it back together the little actuator on the side with the gear does that have to be all the way forward or to the back of the 4 weather
