  • During the Golden Age of Hollywood, there were few stars who rivaled Ginger Rogers. She was an incredibly gifted dancer with singing and acting skills to match. Rogers was also Fred Astaire’s favorite dance partner. And though the Oscar-winner dominated the silver screen, TV sets, and stages, she did so much more beyond performing. She was also a skilled tennis player, an avid angler, an honorary Navy Admiral, and more! Indeed, it seems like the actor accomplished a lot during her life. Want to know more? This is the untold truth of Ginger Rogers.

@@mh.4664 Ginger wasn't even the big star in Stage Door, but it's such a blockbuster cast, and to see her on screen with Lucille Ball is a real kick. Because the both came uomin the studio system together. They all chew the scenery in their own special ways. It's like RKOs sampler of big talent, many memorable performances. Hepburn was the big star but I think all of the ladies got their turn in the spotlight. It's just a great movie. I've probably seen it 20 times. It never gets old. Yeah, it's a soap opera, and it's a formula chic flick, but it's also great fun, with a lot of rising stars.
Then there's Kitty Foyle, Ginger really got to show us her acting chops in that movie, truly deserved her best actress Oscar.
The musicals with Fred are almost indistinguishable from each other, great dancing, great music, silly plots , a bucket of popcorn and hang your brain at the door, films for when yoy want to be entertained without thinking. I think American cinema from the 1930s will never go out of style.

Astaire was an acrobatic dancer who was always watching his and his partner's feet to check on them. The very idea that he would force his partners to dance for hours and blooding their shoes is abhorrent!

@@sage1875 Fred was a great dancer and choreographer. He was mediocre at best as an actor and singer. From what I've read, some performers loved working with, others did not. I won't deny his brilliance and his legacy. He was the best at one thing. I think that old studio system turned out great pictures but demanded outrageous commitment from artists under contract. It's probably not fair to blame the perfectionism on the dancer/choreographer. It was a bad system with harsh work requirements.

But don't take my word for it, check out the survey conducted by UCLA, produced in 2019, of EVERY female actress that ever lived, including Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Meryl Streep, Marilyn Munro and the rest of the rest! Ginger was stunning and an excellent actress 'Primrose Path' for instance. Fred was quoted later in life saying that 'Ginger really sold the films they made together'.
Although he considered Rita Hayworth his best dance partner he knew all too well that Ginger was the more talented actress above and beyond all the others and gave her credit for the success of their 10 films.

Changing one's birth name is like slapping your parents in the face. It's disrespectful and unnecessary. This is especially true if it's done for the anticipation of greater recognition and or financial gain.
