    Guys. For correction. I am from Makkah or Mecca. The road from Taif to Jeddah is the same as the one you took for big cars and trucks. The other road is uphill to downhill with strong curves which is dangerous for big buses and trucks and heavy vehicles. And since you are headed to Jeddah then the closest road is the road you took as well.

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  Před rokem +3

      Exactly and even some people with small cars would prefer the road they took if they are not sure of their car or their driving skills because it is literally going right left and down across the mountains of Sarawat .

    Thanks for showing this. I think Saudi Arabia scares some travellers because the logistics seem hard and the accommodation so expensive. I'm still not sure how but I would like to go. When you see the price of the Wizz flights it seems crazy not to.
    I am currently at the end of my stay in the glorious city of Baku. I made it! Country 100. 💯💯💯 The city is just fascinating. I honestly could have spent months exploring it.
    Gobustan National park was another highlight but arriving in Xinaliq.. WOW! achieving my ultimate Azerbaijani dream. Exploring and meeting the villagers. One of them wrote in my languages book, an honour as only 3000 native speakers remain in this area of the Higher Caucasus.
    Thanks for all your inspiration. I've managed to keep in budget, staying in a comfy hostel and eating traditional food too. 🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿
    (P.s. it would have been Heydar Aliyev's 100th birthday this year so many people thought my photo with the number sign was for him. Let's call it a Double Celebration).😊😊

      Hi Julie and congratulations on 💯 🎊🎉
      That's a sterling effort and we hope you get to experience many more. Azerbaijan is a wonderful country to celebrate that in. So glad you enjoyed Xinaliq. It was a real highlight for us too. I love the idea of your language book. That's brilliant. Do you get people to write in it everywhere you go in different languages? What a brilliant souvenir. ❤️
      The cheap flight prices to get to Saudi are very good. Shame the visa is quite expensive. Couchsurfing was a lifesaver for us here to avoid the high cost of accommodation but also to have the wonderful interactions with friendly local people.
      Hope you enjoy the next destination! 😍 ~ Lee

      Hi Lee and Mandy,
      I volunteer a couple of times a year at a hostel in Ohrid and the owner, who is now a good friend bought me this small hard back book the size of a phone.🇲🇰🇲🇰🇲🇰
      Initially it was just to collect my name in different languages but soon people began to write messages.
      It will definitely be from each country I visit but also if I meet anyone on my travels.
      Today I met a security guard. He was in the last month of his National Service at The Book Museum in Tbilisi and shared his dreams. He wrote beautifully in my book. What a pleasure. 🇬🇪🇬🇪
      If people are not sure what to write I ask them to write about themselves or their country. Anything!
      I record the translation of the actual language and the translation on my phone because it's nice to hear the language spoken too.
      As a fan of carry on and am at an age where I don't want to buy anymore stuff this is the perfect hobby for me!
      I think it would be perfect for you both too. 👍👍

    Back in NZ so catching up with your videos. Had 6 weeks in Spain and Portugal and whilst there followed up on some of the places you visited. Alvor, Obidos and Evora to name a few. Stayed at Raymundo Hostal in Evora(very noisy), lunch at Sabor Casa which was great, loved Obidos and Alvor too. Beautiful weather though abit too hot for 37 days. If you get back to Portugal visit Alcoutum and Mertola on the Guardiana River, full of history and lots to see. So thanks for all the info. Clare

    Hi Mandy / Lee,
    Travelling by bus such a long distance in the desert must be a painful and boring journey as there's so little to see.
    But as it was an empty bus, you guys could relax and rest.
    It's been a while since you've posted that train trip in Thailand, when will you start posting the Thai vids?
    Wishing you a lovely weekend, catch you guys later 😎

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  Před rokem +6

      Hi Sergio. I absolutely love the desert environment and find it fascinating how they differ so much all around the world. Sometimes you have to look hard for the subtle changes as the kilometers roll by. In Saudi it was the colour of the sand, the type of animal life, the habitation of the people and the weather patterns. It's incredible how so many people and creatures can adapt to this tough environment. It keeps me very entertained. ☺️🐪🌴
      Sorry about the delay with the Thailand videos. I'm working on them now but we still have plenty of content from Saudi and Bahrain to come first. Bear with us. 👍
      Have a great weekend

    That meal and tea looked very tasty. Wish I was there. 😋
    Yes, always have cash and toilet paper on hand! We recently upgraded toilet paper to bum wipes since they’re easier to carry and might be a more effective option-depending on the situation. 😂😂

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  Před rokem +1

      Hi Lucchese20. Yeh, I totally see why most people opt to fly there for convenience and comfort. It's a shame that the buses are really not very good value for money considering the price of fuel is so low. If they were upgraded and the cost was lower maybe more people would choose the overland option.
      We enjoyed the experience though. Cash and toilet paper are a must on these trips although it's good in this region that there is always a bum gun or water jug for cleaning after the toilet. 😊👍 ~ Lee

    Hi Mandy/Lee,
    I really enjoy your smile during the flick but tbh the video was misleading. It is fine to tell your viewers about your journey but it is a must as an honest traveller not to deceive them. You know that the trip was not that good at all. No entertainment, No snacks, No service, No clean WCs, and a rough ride after all. The flight ticket is almost the same price with a fraction of the agony. If I were you, I would explain how the trip was and I would compare it with other services from other parts of the world. I would finally give my viewers my HONEST recommendations. I like your channel and good luck for both of you.

      Hello Ishamal, and welcome to our channel! If you've seen any of our other travel videos, ie our flights with budget airlines such as Ryanair or Wizz Air, you'd see they don't have entertainment or food provided. We've made a series of videos about our Flixbus journeys across Europe, and Rede Expressos buses across Portugal, and the latter don't have toilets or food/drink either. The only bus services we've taken where food and drink was provided was in Argentina, or tea/coffee and snacks in Turkey... but the Turkish buses didn't have toilets either 🤣

I remember before we travelled there I was able to use their site to see all of the available buses going between destinations within the country.
      We ended up buying our tickets as we went along and it was never an issue getting a bus. In fact most of them only had a few seats occupied.
