"forcing your beliefs" on your children. you mean raising them? be right back, forcing my kids to learn to read and be polite.
😂😂😂
😂 yes but sometimes some parents are so strict and they will even force some weird beliefs on their children. Like I don't eat onions and garlic so you are not allowed to eat them.... Everything has its limits!
Specifically when it's related to superstitions and religion.
Yes! I mean, yes, there are parents who force things on their kids and never give them a say in how they want things, and that can definitely be bad. But an integral part of parenting is deciding things for your kids and trying to instil values and habits in them that you think are important. Feeding them in a way that you think is healthy (hopefully supported by some actual evidence or based on credible expertise) is not "forcing them" to do anything.
forcing your kids to do things is an integral part of parenting. kids are still developing their sense of responsibility and learning how to do necessary things even when they don't want to. i *hated* brushing my teeth as a kid, but my parents would "make me" because i wasn't capable of being self-motivated about it yet.
also, it's impossible not to instill your kids with your beliefs. every single person has some sort of philosophy about life, existence, and the world around us, and those will naturally dictate how you raise your kids. one of my personal pet peeves are strong-arming atheists who tell me that raising my kids religious is "forcing beliefs upon them", as if raising your kid to be staunch atheists isn't the same thing.
@@LoveYourself-my9nz some parents don't eat persimmon so then their kids grow up without ever trying persimmon. It's so wrong. And did you know there are families who don't eat cassava or give it to their kids!?
She's using the "not allowed" line as a hook to get people invested in the rest of the video. It's a good tactic - especially if they leave the video knowing that vegan lunches are totally doable for kids!
I said the same thing
Swayze I really appreciate all you do. I don't agree with you on everything, but you are one of the most level headed people in the vegan community making videos and I hope you know there are a whole lot of people who appreciate it.
This mother is providing a balanced lunch .
As someone who grew up with food insecurity I would have loved a vegan lunch instead of nothing .
If I had a kid I wouldn't make them eat school lunch either. Anyone else had school lunch that was was legit disgusting and unhealthy?
A commenter on one of her posts claimed she developed an eating disorder because her mom wouldn't let her order school lunch.🤦♀️I was always so grateful for homemade lunches.
I often ate school lunch, but sometimes it was so gross. I remember disgusting mashed potatoes, and one time the teacher wouldn’t let me get up from the table until I ate more of my tater tots, so I threw them on the floor. 🙈
@@TheIceMaiden😂⭐️👍
I vividly remember gross sausage pizza, pretzel rods, and chocolate milk. The Friday special.
I always took lunch in to school, our school lunch was disgusting
Wow. I love her lunch ideas.
I have no problem with her saying her kids aren't allowed to eat school lunch. As parents we decide everyday what our kids are and aren't allowed to do.
As an adult that works from home, I really need to step up my lunches. 😂 Some pretty good ideas here!
These looks really good! I like that she uses the school lunch menu - easier to pack sometimes if you don’t have to come up with the menu yourself! My daughter will start kindergarten this fall and I definitely need lunch inspiration.
@MdoubleHB.x.x Do you have anything better to do than comment on people's looks?
I literally ate a bagel with cream cheese, sliced apple, and bag of chips like every day as long as i can remember till i graduated high school
So I dunno if its just a Canadian thing or just my city but I didn't have a cafeteria or school-made lunches when I was in elementary school. You always had to bring your own lunch
Yeah I never had a school with school lunches other than those like "on Friday you can order" programs that were optional. Also Canadian. But from what I understand a huge number of kids in America wouldn't eat lunch at all without school lunch - lower income kids definitely benefit even if the food isn't super nutritious
I'm in Ontario and never had cafeteria in elementary, but there was one in high school.
@@Haley_Wozniak I had one in high school but by the time I got to grade 9 you could leave school grounds and go get lunch somewhere else
@@spriddlez For sure its super important for people struggling to feed their families. It's just one of these things I've always seen on TV but never experienced until high school
canada checking in, yup cant believe they have school lunches, just wild
I agree that it is very easy for young children to understand the concept that when we eat meat, we are killing an animal to do so. I am the 55 year old mother of two adult children, and have discovered your channel just recently because I have always eaten an omnivorous diet, but am now working to drastically reduce, if not eliminate, animal products from my diet for health and ethical reasons. When my children were young, they had an epiphany that meat was "from the body of a dead animal" (in their words), and actually had to come to terms with that realization.
I also want to say that I really appreciate your channel because I am a very science and logic oriented person, and tend to be turned off by vegan influencers in general. Thank you for being an educational source for me!
I love watching these kinda videos because it gives me ideas for grown up lunches!!
It's never too early to start nurturing empathy in children.
i think her lunch was really yummy and healthy! her kids are lucky!
In addition to the Gardein nuggets being expensive, they're a lot higher in sodium than they used to be. I miss when their products were a more balanced high protein treat.
Love suga shani! I’m inspired by her lunches and the preparation she puts in to make sure her kids are successful.
Her kids are lucky to have such a great mom.
As a picky eater, seeing the school lunches videos helps me come up with ideas for myself 😅 Can't wait for your vid!
love the dedication to staying "on theme" it truly is so inspiring and I hope I remember to do that when I have kids
Thank you for all you do!!
School lunches are notoriously bad. Even here in France. Her kids are so lucky for real… they eat better than me some days 😅
Your hair looks sooooo smooth ❤
Cool video. I'm jealous of some of these lunches. I went all the way through 1-12 eating peanut butter and jam sandwiches. Lol
her lunches look great and so cute and fun for her kids! oh- AND delicious
What a loving parent to match what the school is serving 4:12 😄
Thanks for the positive video. Some people are way too protein obsessed.
Honestly, most school lunches such kind of gross and not very healthy anyway. Using the lunch menu as inspiration for home cooked lunches is probably the best way to go!
Growing up in Australia and New Zealand, we always packed our own lunches. I think it gives kids more choice over what they eat.
Your hair looks so nice!
Maybe you could make a video about Dr. Chris Palmer saying on the Diary of a CEO podcast that the keto diet will help people not develop autism and that diet and obesity is the reason that more people are diagnosed today.
Absolutely shocking.
Oh i tried some pine berries last year! Aldi carried them.
These look great. When I (hopefully) have kids in the future, I'll try to make lunches like that.
As a child I was forced to eat meat and told it was basically required for my health! I don't think anyone would get mad that I was being "indoctrinated" the same way they get mad at vegan parents. I'm not vegan but I think it's the right thing to do, and the anger at vegans is really overblown.
this looks better than actual school food
I want this lady to pack me lunch every day. The meals look so balanced and yummy!
Such creative lunches! Nice, positive video! I grew up as a vegetarian (in an omniverous family). In The Netherlands lunch is so easy, just bread. Just bread with a spread. My school snack was always a piece of fruit (apple, banana or mandarin), my lunch was always sourdough bread with any spread I chose (nutbutter, jam, rinse appelstroop, tahini or cheese). Occasionally we would have a chocolate spread or 'sandwich spread', but that was a treat. Sometimes my mother put a chocolate bar in my bag, which I often even didn't eat. My drink at school: water. Life was so simple. There was food for sale at school, but I did not get pocket money, and I just preferred to eat bread anyway.
I was gonna comment about the bread for lunch. We Germans do this too. We usually just have one warm meal a day and that's the protein heavy one so not having a ton of protein in their lunch doesn't seem like an issue to me as long as the dinner is better with it.
@@emelyhoefer Totally agree with you! Good wholegrain breads (German breads are the best) contain protein, and so do nutbutters and seedbutters. My dinners were lots of veggies, whole grains, legumes, and tofu or Quorn. Breakfast was a bowl of müesli with nuts and dried fruits. I ate like this my whole childhood, and I became healthy and strong. I was vegetarian, so for a vegan diet you would have to pay a bit more attention, because I ate cheese every day, and I also ate sometimes egg or dairy (but not that much).
Lunches look great, I'd be happy if someone packed that for me to take to work. I'm most impressed with the fact that those lunch boxes make it home everyday. My oldest could probably manage but my 2nd, nope, would have lost it an hour after leaving the house and my third would have broken it within an hour of leaving the house.
Your hair looks fantastic in this video! How can you possibly have a 7 year old already? I guess I shouldn’t be shocked I blinked and my first born is 24
I don’t love the way she says her kids can’t eat school lunch because of being vegan - but I like seeing what she packs and like she keeps in mind what the school lunch would be. Her voice is soothing too!
7???? No way! I remember when she was pregnant. Crazy that it's been that long already
@@jennier3699 I know right!
And in true Swayze style she has stayed true to her word and has never shared her kids, their genders, their names, any personal information. More people in the public eye need to follow this example🏆
Hi Swayze will you please review Paige Shay? She's a weight-lifting vegan who eats unrestricted fruit and vegetables and high, good carbs like potatoes and leafy green and brown rice...
My 5 year old daughter will ask me if what shes about to eat has "anything bad" or "does this have milk" before she eats anything offered by someone other than me. If it has animals or their products she says "yuck. Why do people do that? Lets find one that doesnt use that". Shes such a smarty and knows they make mock everything. She also gets made at her grandmother when she sees her eating animal products, so my mom will actually eat much less of that stuff atound us now 😅
That definitely sounds like a sentence a 5 yo would say 🙄
She 5 not 3. Have you spoken to any children?
Have you met a 5 year old? Is actually hard to get them to stop talking. @439801RS
@Vegan32 yeah and none of 7 or 8 yo talked like that either
And I get you'd paraphrase some stuff, but I put question marks around any child that supposedly perfectly parroted their parents' belief
Except when they hear their parent talk about it all the time. Everytime we go shopping i have to combat shows she watches that say vows milk is healthy or that chicken nuggets are yummy. So yea its funny she says that but she will. She finds a cake at the store, asks if we can have it. I'll say no it has eggs. She says ew, let's find one that doesn't. When we bake at home she knows we use soy milk and bean juice (aquafaba) instead of eggs. As a previous childcare director i can tell you kids parrot their parents more than you think. @439801RS
I have been wondering how the vegan conversation would happen with my future kids, but from what you said, it may be easier to just let them continue to embrace their innate compassion for animals. What im more worried about is the community surrounding them. Their friends picking on them etc. guess i gotta raise them to be confident in themselves. Oh dear😅
Most schools here (Scotland/UK) are nut free environments which eliminates many good vegan protein sources from packed lunches. My children had cereal bars confiscated and everything. I work in schools but can choose to eat off site which the pupils can’t. On the plus side, school lunch halls always have a vegetarian option on the menu which is sometimes vegan, and often have meat free Monday type days where every option is veggie. Not hugely appealing mind you. Her lunches look amazing, wish she’d make mine!
I never ate lunch at school, both cafeteria and homepacked lunches felt unsafe/unsanitary to me lol
Pineberries are amazing, try them!
I want to!!
@MdoubleHB.x.x You're unhinged. Please seek help, and stay away from children.
is that the caterpillar/worm from Labyrinth????
I grew up in the 70's and school lunch in my hometown was actually pretty good. I'm not super picky but I thought the pizza, shepards pie, beef stew, and sloppy joes were great.
I want to try Pineberries so bad
Those lunches look beautiful
Making what the school is serving vegan is such a genius idea, especially for young children. It makes them feel less ostracised and prevents food jealousy between the children. It also shows that they don’t have to do without most of the delicious things other kids are eating.
So I have a question, wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Recently had a doctor tell me that were concerned about not exposing my baby to the top allergens. So they are extremely insistent on me giving my baby fish, dairy and eggs to avoid future allergies. Their reasoning is because ''they aren't going to want to be vegan when they are older'' basically was saying that I shouldn't force them to be vegan because they aren't going to be in the future. I thought i was going to get the normal "you cant be healthy being vegan'' speech, but instead I got this. Has anyone else gotten this one? If so how do you even respond to this?
You responded by giving the baby fish dairy and eggs fool smdh
You responded by giving the baby fish dairy and eggs fool smdh
You responded by giving the baby fish dairy and eggs fool smdh
just dont listen to your doctor's advice, they will more than likely remain vegan as people dont really compromise on their basic ethics and morals they are raised with that often, the allergen issues are only ever going to be an issue if they eat those products (which they wont because they are vegan)
Honestly i wouldn't listen to the doctor, their logic doesnt make sense and its based on "what if" which is highly unlikely to happen.
Another thing is ethical vegans have an extremely small turnover rate in general, again i wouldn't worry about it, just teach them why hurting animals is wrong and teach them the connection between what they eat and the animals they come from, just raise them vegan in general and you will be fine.
@@Rosemary46840Go away carnist troll
You are so right about kids. I’m not even currently vegetarian but when my daughter asked why we have plant milks and I explained the factory farming process of taking away babies from dairy cows to keep them producing milk, she decided she’d never have animal products again. That was 4 years ago. I never pushed her and I started eating meat again before that, but if you explain what animals go through and you give an alternative, most kids will decide on their own. For my part, I was vegetarian most of my life and will probably get there again, but I’m very proud of my kiddo, especially because I don’t even exemplify for her what she’s decided to be. She decided completely on her own that animals feelings matter and took action. An addendum, I do know the difference between vegan and vegetarian but I was never personally vegan. I do think it’s much better to be vegan but I never was.
People getting mad at the "not allowed" part as if parents not allowing their kids to do stuff isn't a perfectly normal thing. My parents didn't allow me to do plenty of things. That's just what parents do. They make choices for their kids because they're responsible for them.
Ive been raised vegetarian, but i 'was allowed' to eat meat at school if i wanted to. Im curious, what if your kids eat meat or dairy at school or at a friends house? How do you handle that? loveeee your content!! greetings from the Netherlands
i mean if you teach them veganism they probably arent going to go back on it, ethical vegans have a really really tiny conversion rate back to carnism.
To a kid, veganism makes a lot more sense and they understand it a lot more, its just basic ethics really, people dont really compromise on basic ethics really ever so i doubt it would ever become an issue realistically
if they did end up eating meat or animal products on purpose and i found out i would use normal gentle parenting tactics on them
@@vendetta.02lots of kids get to the teenage years and want to try things their friends are eating and don't continue having strong feelings about not eating animal products. Parents need to be aware of this and just let them try things outside the home if they want to. Sometimes they come back to veganism, sometimes they don't.
So my wife and I have an 8 month old, and we’ve discussed this since we currently live in a rural community in North Carolina(not near any city over 30k people). She’ll be raised on a vegan lifestyle and going to church with us. We’ll have those important conversations with her periodically when we believe she is able to understand, and at her own level so she can make a well informed decision. Obviously a conversation with a 5 year old about why we don’t eat chicken is different than the true complexity of morality. Like most parents, we’re trying to set her up for the future.
Can you review Glucoserevolution?
I dont think she is vegan or such but she def has mentioned a lot of vegan products from what I saw
Yeah I’d love you to review a video of glucose goddess.
@MdoubleHB.x.x how hateful. I see you left the same comment on numerous posts too. Wow how little of you and how empty you must be. I wish you the best in life with how little you seem to understand about it. Good luck. Btw I reported a few of your comments 🫡
Those launch boxes are too damn small!
Love u mam and partner and kids. take care.
In other parts of the world school lunches aren't a thing and kids get packed lunches all 12 years of school! The idea of it being wrong for parents to feed their own kids is very foreign to me 😂
exactly.
its so easy.
Eating vegan is so easy it's effortless. Fruit and grains and veg.
When I was in elementary school, I remember the food from school was atrocious. Cold, overcooked pasta, cold veiny slices of meat, fish under jelly... I have no idea who was the crazy people giving kids such disgusting, nutritionally poor meals to kids.
The funny thing? I come from Italy, where people usually make a big fuss over vegans making vegan versions of traditional foods. Surreal.
that intro line is definitely rage baiting - gets her engagement and views from people hating vegans... questionable imo
I'm curious if your kids were to eat at someone else's and want to eat their non vegan food instead of the one you prepared, what would you do? I think I would let them, I only draw the line at my home and what I make for them
lol. when you think your vegan kid is vegan and their friends hook them up with meat during school lunch.
Luv the variety of vibrant and nutritious vegan school lunches showcased in this video! Come check me out for more vegan inspo if you desire.
People are getting too hung up on the "not allowed" but also "don't" works just as well without the same tone 😅
I’m not trying to be a jerk, but every time I eat vegan, I’m hungry an hour later. Tips for making vegan food that won’t leave me hungry y’all?
Include foods that are higher in protein (legumes, tofu, seitan, even fake meats) and foods that are high in fat (nut butters, tahini, coconut milk, nuts and seeds). That should make meals more filling :)
My lunch was always packed with deli meat sandwiches... and they think its shocking millennals are getting colon cancer... this mom is already ahead of everybody by making healthy lunches that are vegan.
So, in the US, there's no vegan option in schools/preschools?
❤❤❤
Hmmm. Why separate the foods in those ridiculous compartments? Mix them together. Beans and rice and diced tomatoes. Chopped broccoli, tofu, potatoes, and carrots. Broccoli, beans, and tomato soup. This way kids who don't like something like broccoli will eat it if it is mixed with something they really like.
you can tell by how much care she puts into theses lunches that she really loves her children. I hope people will see it too and not leave mean comments just because their vegans
Every meal doesn't have to be perfectly balanced. She may be getting plenty from breakfast, after school snacks and dinner. Fed is best!
I was assuming that the lunch where she only gave them cheese, chips, and fruit was going to be supplemented by the pinto beans she mentioned earlier that the school was providing but maybe I’m being too charitable
At my kids’ school you either pay for the whole lunch or you don’t buy lunch. It’s $3 per day unless you qualify for reduced or free lunches which my family does not. The packed lunch they take is not supplemented with school lunch.
I wish she was making my lunches! :-)
I mean sometimes I just want pasta and bread and fruit too 😂 People need to chill. If 90% of the lunches are good on protein then there's nothing to worry about.
definitely would have starved as a kid with a few of these meals but pretty great overall
Cool.
Imo there shouldn’t be that restriction in a child’s diet, I do mean with keto parents too.
You cant compare keto with the plant based meals this lady was making for her kids. The vast majority were balanced, nutritious meals that most RDs would approve of. Keto omits carbs whereas these meals hit all 3 macros & more micros than a standard school lunch.
They seemed to provide adequate calories, protein, carbs, fat & fiber, so what, exactly was restrictive?
Vegans 'restrict' animal products in the same way you 'restrict' dogs & cats, presumably
@@hannahmitchell87 lots of culture's food contain meat and you're effectively never introducing that to them because of values.
@allanpeter7700 what values?
@@hannahmitchell87 vegan values.
@allanpeter7700 Oh, I misunderstood your previous comment. Yes, vegan parents raise their children with values, just like all good parents? I imagine most non-vegan parents would tell their children not to hurt others, including animals, wouldn't they? Is that restrictive?
For the love...*everything* has protein. Americans are weirdly obsessed with protein.
I'm not saying that raising a child vegan is bad perse, but I just don't buy the "It's easy for them" line. When I was in elementary school, there was no cafeteria, but there was a delivery service that brought (chocolate) milk cartons, which I remember the school insisted you'd drink, unless you had a "good" reason like allergy. And I'm sure there were some people whose parents were vegetarian/vegan, but I never heard thar
And besides the school insisting, on school trips, it was pretty much a guarantee we'd get fries with mayo, I never liked mayo, but was looked at weird or saying I didn't want mayo those 4-5 years at least
So I'd definitely say that it's possible that kids feel pressured to partake to not be weird or even bullied
Also to add to that, if kids are so inherently against eating animals/ok with not eating them, why the need for fake chicken? Just give them tofu or tempeh
Something not adding up
HAVE YOU EVER LOOKED AT NUTRITION BY VICTORIA SHE HAS A MASTERS IN HUMAN NUTRITION.
Feeding your children only vegan is wrong in my belief. Their brain is still developing.
Nice
I was forced to eat animals as a kid. My Mum even told me that Ox tongue wasn't actually an animal's tongue and venison wasn't really deer. I guess she thought she was doing the right thing as she still believes you need animal flesh for protein. I'm vegan 5 years now. Thank God (not that he had anything to do with it!).
CANDIED yams? I never thought of the possibility 😅 It should be eaten as fufu, fried or baked.
Very popular in the Midwest. Canned sweet potatoes mixed with brown sugar and butter. Topped with marshmallows and baked. A holiday favorite. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
We aren't vegan, but we are as humane as we can be. I feel it is very important to teach my children how to be good humans so we have our own laying hens and we sorce our milk from a local humane dairy farm! We unfortunately can't be vegan for medical reasons (both my oldest and my husband have )
As a church goer-my kids want to go to church. I think we all have a right to raise our kids with our influence how we like. The trick is accepting that when they become autonomous adults, they may diverge and we need to respect that. But if we were sharing and not brain washing in the first place, we are probably already not going to lose our minds if they choose differently because we are healthy people. You can be a healthy church goer (gasp) just as much as much as you can be a healthy vegan (I’m talking mentally here, not criticizing mock meats😉).
Cold broccoli?! That's unkind to the kids in my opinion lol.
I would rather let my kids choose what kind of diet they like best and i don't mean eating hella junk food but i mean Vegan, Pescatarian, Lacto-Ovo, vegetarian, Flexitarian, or omnivore. I personally prefer vegan and vegetarian food, but would raise eyebrows if someone made their kids eat alkaline vegan or raw vegan food. thats soooooo dangerous!
