    we used to use these in the forestry when it was bad weather. two ponchos press stud together and rigged to the trees back to the wind. lifesaver!!

    I liked the "Dackelgarage" as it was called in the Bundeswehr when i served, except in -15 and colder, with the german Schlafsack it was not a proper shelter. We even liked it more to get to the campfire and stay there for hours with a hot tea or coffee than to get back to the tent. great times anyways ;) thumbs up as always Lars, keep it up!

    Another nice thing is that you can make quick adjustments in the angularity and positioning for changes in wind direction and intensity.

    I have used this kind of shelter for a long time, and it is the most functional one I know of. Quick to set up and take down, it nicely serves its purpose. Everyone should know about this one. Cheap tarps from big box retailers will work well, too. In fact, any rectangular piece of waterproof material will suffice. Thank you for another informative video.

    That was a very succinct and most useful clip. The Mystery is now solved and I will repair my Flecktarn half tent Poncho with masking tape on the tears and try it out, but mine will be more of a Sun screen and Wind shelter than for rain. Many thanks for answering my questions with a video.

    Actually, Zelts are very good for those who are in the Desert or Steppe Environments, provided one uses Trekking Poles or even a Simple Hiking Stick. I'd just use some old Bicycle Inner Tube and put some Tent Stakes on the Shaft itself. Yep, got to go shopping for a Few Zelts!

    One of the worst days in the rain i ever had was when a brand new 2Lt told me that "infantrymen don't need to get out of the rain." I responded with "Even a chicken has enough sense not to stay in the rain, Sir." Was wet in the field the entire time he was my platoon leader.

    • @couchcamperTM
      @couchcamperTM Před 7 lety

      4 triangels make a tent, a small and heavy one btw. that's why every soldier carried only one, and since it is almost impossible to fit 4 guys in a tent made of 4 triangles, they were sleeping in shifts, 2 inside, 2 on guard/ as camp sentries. Of course there's cotton canvas shelter halfs, too. Poland, Russia, the USA and even Austria and Germany in later times used those for 2 people. (puptent, plash palatka and "Dackelgarage")
      you could also make a tent from three plash palatkas or east German shelter halfs, which gives you more room than 4 triangels.

    • @couchcamperTM
      @couchcamperTM Před 7 lety +1

      these are quarters, not halves. like with the Wehrmacht Zeltbahns, 4 guys would carry one each, and only 2 would sleep inside the tent while the other 2 guys would play guard. (just not big enough for 4 adults...)
      rectangles or trapezoids on the other hand were halves , and 2 of them make a tent for 2 guys (like with the US puptent and the plash palatka) both ways have their pros and cons, choose your poison :D

    My canvas tarp molded. I used it in the rain, and let it air dry. I rolled it up, and put it away then a few months later i rolled it out, and found mold all over it. I assume it was not completely dry when I rolled it up, but if you are using it often or live in a wet environment, or just don't have the time to let it air dry for hours wouldn't it mold?. It could have just been my canvas tarp not being oiled, or waxed properly (it was sold as waterproof), but I don't know.
