    You're quite right to call her 'elegant'. What an absolutely beautiful machine...she's a stunner. The separately fitted metal parts are a sign of good quality, as you say and that cab interior is very well detailed...I'd say one of the best I've seen. Let's hope this sets a new benchmark for fine detail on new models. I've always had a slight bias towards Bachmann for detail and weathering etc but some of the new Hornby releases are are really well presented. I think the slightly jerky motion at slow speed may be ironed out a little after a good run in. Great review, as always, mate. Tom :)

      @SamsTrains  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks Tom - really glad you liked her too - I was super impressed with this one! I agree - when Hornby get it right, they really get it right... they just need to get it right more often, and then I'll be happy! :D

      haha that's good to hear! Yeah a few of them were good - though he did create a few disasters - the L1 tank for example, was considered a failure!

    Sam, Doncaster green was meant to be slightly darker (if I'm remembering correctly) than that of Darlington, the LNER's other main works, a result both of the paint being mixed per use, not in batches, and a remainder from the pregrouping days (GNR grass green is noticably slightly darker than that of the NER). There were works discrepancies in the livery, it's all very interesting to look into, things like lining, the numbering style and so forth; I believe Stratford Works was notorious for not following "the rules". You see this with the other Big Four companies, too.
    Hope you found this interesting!
    Alex

    I just got my B1 in BR lined black and late crest, it was a secondhand in new state, and really not been out of the box before other than for inspection only, no running marks on the wheels, no dust and all parts in sealed bags.
    It was more than £87,-, at £115,-, but considering the RPP of £176,- for this loco now I consider it still as a bargain, as it is in mint condition.
    The £87,- you payed was really a steep bargain, I consider this one sold not so well as the other versions because it spans such a short time, between 1948 and maybe 1953
    It is a very nice model indeed an runs well, and wil handle more than those 6 coaches.
    I love it as much as my couple of K1's which I bought earlier.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  Před 6 lety

      Hi mate, yeah for sure - if it's as good as that, then that is a decent price! Yeah that's probably very true - for serious modelers with specific layouts, this surely can't have sold too well!
      Thanks for watching - Sam :)

    Hi Sam,
    This model was sold by Hattons for an Unbelievable bargain price of £79.00 around last Christmas I believe, I was to buy one, but got distracted by my work and when I came round to buying it in a couple of days it was all gone. Hornby has discontinued this model since and whatever available are being sold for well over £120.00 on eBay. You were lucky to get your hands on one for 87 quid.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  Před 5 lety +1

    Sam's "it's beautifull" Trains!!😎 The tender coupling is a common issues with Hornby tenders, had at least three fall off when running!

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  Před 6 lety

      haha for sure! Yeah it's a very common issue - I've had to glue many of them on... which really defeats the object of the interchangeable NEM coupling design ;D

    I've just ordered this from Hatton's prior to watching your video! I now feel vindicated with my choice too. I agree with your scoring it really looks the part & apart from minor issues can't wait to run it on my layout. Getting to the point where some of the prices for current loco's are getting beyond the average modeller like myself so seeing a bargain adds to the satisfaction I think you'll agree. Keep up the good work mate!

    I remember when I didn't know much about trains and was planning to get into the hobby, I really liked this one because of 'Thompson' so I wanted to get it haha, it's because it reminded me of J.J. 8:45 It seems odd having this engine letterd for British Railways, but not having their smokebox numberboards! But a few early BR engines in LNER green had this feature! (Tornado should try running wihout its numberboard!)
    I think this is a neat looking model, especially pulling blood and custard coaches!

    Sam, personally I prefer the black b1, here in the north west we didn't get to see many green liveried engines, and our black ones were very dirty indeed, they were used for hauling coal to our local power station.

    Evening Sam, that was an ace review of your Hornby LNER B1 in British Railways Apple Green livery.
    The detail looks smashing and the running performance is great.
    £87.00 is a very good price although it's a bit expensive.
    Today I went to the Severn Valley Railway for their Spring Steam Gala, they originally planned to have B1 No.1264 from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at their Gala, but unfortunately it was cancelled due to her winter maintenance weren't finished in time, so they invited the 7F No.53808 from the West Somerset Railway instead, but I still had a wonderful day today.
    I can see 6 LNER Locomotives, the odd one out is the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Class 5 2-4-2 Tank Engine.
    Once again, your review was ace.
    10/10 & 5 stars. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 😉

    The trouble I've had with the Replica Railways/Bachmann B1's. Split chassis aside, it's the plastic wheel inserts that always end up bulging. What, in the name of Gresley, did they think they were doing with that nonsense? :)

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  Před 3 lety +1

      haha I agree with you - the same has now happened to both of my B1s, and there's just no way to fix it without cutting out the wheel centres - terrible!

    Hi Sam, I missed buying this model from Hattons when they were on Bargain, when I visited the site there was more than 10 available but when I came round to purchasing it the following week they were all gone.. I managed to pick up a used one from AC Models recently which was in good condition for the same price but minus the Dart on the Smoke Box, any Idea how I could replace it. Heard the Bachmann model that is coming out is really good, can't wait to get my hands on one.😁

    Hi Sam I had problems with this model as well I think it was missing its detail pack and I had to replace its piston rods as the main rods was bent and kept catching on the front drive wheel coupling rod stopping it from running. I've managed to fix it but I am wary to run it.
