Ehs racing sells an airbox mod to use a uni filter or a k&n filter. I did the install on my 17 grizzly and picked the k&n filter. Solves all the problems and turns the filter into a traditional clamp on atv air filter. The tube you’re referring to in the video is the air injection system (AIS). That does pump air from the box into the exhaust to burn off extra fuel for the epa crap. Ive also blocked that off at the box and disconnected/plugged the tubes. The ais just causes the exhaust the back fire and be annoying. If you watch ehs racing do their airbox mod on one they have on the bench it will all make sense. The other tube on the ride side of the box is the engine case breather. Ive also done an exhaust and tuner. Between the tuner, pipe, and airbox mod the machine runs much better and cooler than stock. Great videos man its nice to see other people tinkering with their Yamaha’s.
Douglas Phillips I agree with you the EHS box and lid mod is the only way to go it’s fool proof. I have 2016 Kodiak with the EHS mods and AIS blocked off and HMF pipe and tuner 1.5 mm shim and 22 gram EPI rollers. I’m extremely happy with is set up.
Hi Douglas .. Yeah the Ehs looks like a nice piece. I have seen there vid on the modification. I made this modification a year ago. Can't remember if I seen there vid before or after I fixed mine. If I get tired of fooling with the stock air filter I'll probably go with that set up. I wish Yamaha will have spent a little more time on the air filter set up so there wouldn't be an issue.
j. s. I did the epi trail clutch kit for 27 inch tires on the grizz. Primary weights were four 14’s and four 16’s and orange secondary spring plus wet clutch springs. I put my old 18 gram weights in my girls kodiak 700 so now it pulls like a grizz.
If I buy the whole airbox setup is it just an easy no fuss install? I live on small river in VA and ride it daily pretty much around the property. Do I need to get the UNi filter?

It's always nice to fix problems yourself! Weird setup with the lid holding the filter in place! White lithium grease on the seal foam will create an awesome seal also! Make sure you don't have the foam filter oil on too thick or you'll starve the machine of air. Great vid!

OK, just made me look at my 2016 as I have read about this before. I switch out two factory filters and both of mine have maintained a good seal with zero dust entering the intake. I have almost 900 miles on my 2016 Grizz so maybe this issue occurs after more miles are ridden and the foam collapses over time. I do like the additional foam around the foam ring however. @@rockinghorselivestock2491 Amazon! I bought some a bit thicker than the original ring to do a tighter seal and made them much wider than the stock round seal. Worked great.
Samiches? LOL - I love that accent! I like how they make the filter so easy to take off & put back on again; it's just too bad they didn't seal things up a little better from factory. Honda uses a large hose clamp to tighten the same style of filter onto the breather intake, but it's not easy to get off and on. It's a very tight fit, which I guess is good as far as not having any air leaks, but it's the shits to service. I'd like to see them come up with a different system like Yamaha, but not if it means having this problem. Regardless, it looks like you've nicely fixed the problem. I like that little fix for the ECU breather too. I noticed in my airbox there is a small square bit of foam tucked into a little cavity with a hose attached to it on the outside of the box & I'm thinking now that it's the same thing (the ECU breather hose). So I think what you've done to your Yammy is what Honda has done from factory and even with my limited knowledge of mechanics . . . seems to be a good fix for your Kodiak. Nice job! Good video KC! Lawnmower engines! hahaha I don't know about that. I don't think they want to tarnish the reputation of having long lasting reliable machines. Although with that being said they did build a big bore single the TRX 700xx. I wish they would have put that engine in a utility quad I think it would've ran really well. I only know of two manufactures who put powerful engines in their quads. We all know who they are and they're not from Japan. LOL
I had an ehs racing air filter setup on my 18 and it's the ultimate best but with the thick rubber backing on that uni filter it's hard to get cleaned and oiled properly cause the rubber part isn't removable and the 2020 comes with a uni air filter that's factory so I'm going to run the factory air filter for a while and see and if it's not better after a mountain trip then it's EHS

Yamaha is usually pretty smart, but their new airbox ain't the greatest, and it's definitely in the wrong spot. They should've put it where the new storage box is. Have to say that the Brutes have the best designed airbox. It's up high, easily accessed, seals off with mechanical force (screws), and it's upright so it doesn't lay in any coughed up motor oil all day. Best of all, the replacement filters are about $3 online.😉🙂
An oil covered filter is the best possible filter you can get. It traps more dirt than any dry filter could ever hope to. Research the brutes filter and you will see it's one of the most restricting intake systems on the market. Exactly why they make airbox mods top of the mod list.
Also I traded my 2018 off and recently bought a 2020 grizzly 700 and the filter is somewhat the same but it has a bigger piece of foam where it seals and it's also a closed cell foam and the filter fits really tight you have to push it pretty hard so it's sealed pretty good but I still blocked off the AIS they are just trouble
AIS suck the dirt in it from the small foam seal and mine did the same thing put grease on the small foam seal problem fix ,this talk about Grizzly ATV Forum.
your misunderstanding how the air is moving.when yo are reving the engine air is sucking into the throttle body along with any fine dust that makes it past the filter. release the throttle for deceleration, the AIS comes on pulling that same air and fine dust towards the hose hence the reason you see dirt buildup on that side and in the hose. the dirt isn't coming from the AIS hose, it's blow by from around the filter. by adding the extra layers to your filter, you have now restricted the airflow slightly.
Cameron Fitch. I believe there is already a drain in the bottom of the airbox from the factory. If I remember right it has a hose on it where you have to pull the hose off to let it drain. Since making this video I have also blocked off the AIS valve at the cylinder head where the hose hooks to it. Thanks for checking out the video!
If you block off the ais you wouldn't of had to drill a hole in the top of air box just take the hose off up by the front of engine and put a heavy hose on it like a heater hose then put a steal plug in it and clamp it then plug the ais hose and tie it up and your good then when u sell it just plug hose in then your done but that ais will cause dust to get in there's to much sucking and blowing going on there and I'm thinking after you put silicone on that side and plugged up those slots then air and dust couldn't go there. And the other side is fine. But just unhook AIS side and plug then your good also you can put a shim on the back of the air filter and it tightened up the air filter seal and that helps alot to.
key kc .. let say if you go a ride on your quad about 4 to 5 time .. check your air filter .. if it dirty .. clean it me every time i go a ride on my 2004 polaris sportman700 .. me i go ride 5 to 6 time per week i do clean my air filter .. that mean i do clean my air filter about 20 to 30 time per month .. that is the best way to do to keep your quad running nice and clean...

The grizzly everyone says is reliable but the plastic is terrible along with the power the can am is built with better material excellent fit and finish but unsure of reliability that's my dilemma . I like the dual brake levers and pod mounted headlight on the grizzly but an underwhelming motor shouldn't be at this price The other factor is the new eps se has a larger tire package which I'm sure makes the power loss more noticable
Why not just make a new foam gasket piece on front of airbox where the filter seats that's smaller diameter snug to airhorn, that way the air from that hose is also filtered at that point

I'll second what Douglas has said. You best bet is to get rid of that stock setup all together and buy the one EHS offers. I also opted for the moded air box lid which will in give you a slight gain in HP but you will need a EFI controller. These bikes run dangersouly lean from factory (also for emissions) off of idle.

It is SOP to use grease at any foam filter seal contact points. I thin layer of any cheap wheel bearing grease will do.
I use a bead of grease around the front foam ring/seal. Works for me so far. 2021 grizzly 700 se

Do you put grease on the seal for the air filter? K&N makes air filter sealing grease. But im sure any grease will work.

There is most definitely a drain hole and hose from factory. It’s a pink tube hanging out the bottom of the airbox
Block off the AIS completely and your good cause it just makes it backfire it doesn't need to be on there

East Coast Resident . Yes after blocking off the AIS it doesn’t have the popping on deceleration like it did before.
