    Most people might not need bigger brakes, but both the M Sport and M Performance brakes make the car look sooo much better than the standard brakes with floating calipers.

    If you have the CCB setup, you can also swap out the friction hardware for "iron" components, instead of keeping the CC bits. So you'll have the CCB look, but instead, run 2 piece iron rotors and the necessary pads. 9 sets for the same price as the CCB replacement.
    You can also upgrade from the stock CCB pads, which aren't that great, to the pagid CCB pads, with the OE CCB rotors for real track worthy stopping power. 👍

    You forgot to mention the most important thing about big brake kits: great conversation starter when you go to car shows :)

  • @Lean-vp3fo
    @Lean-vp3fo Před rokem +4

    More brake torque from bigger calipers do matter and do shorten brake disrance when the tire is high grip.
    At high speeds, a small caliper would not be able to get near locking with high grip tires because the small caliper lacks brake torque necessary to utilize the grip available.
    At low speeds however, a small caliper would get to locking as much as a big caliper would.
    With lower grip tires, a small caliper would be sufficient perhaps even at high speed braking

    Sometimes big brake kits are necessary for reliability on track or on race cars. For example the M2, M240i, and M235i I have seen in the past have caliper failures where the bolts holding the calipers together yield under heavy braking causing the brake fluid passage to open up

    C- or J hook is to have grooves to clean the pad off and remove glaze quickly if you overheat it... but at the same time not introduce a linear/radial weakness.
    Ultimately for track use you should not use steel disks more than 2 years and replace them at the signs of any crazing.

    $9000 on a big brake kit? Most will say nope, that is a turbo or supercharger or heads, cam, intake and full exhaust money.
    I’m all in at $2200 on a big brake kit on my 2004 GTO, using CTSv, C6 Corvette and 5th gen Camaro SS parts. The custom caliper brackets were about 20% of the cost. 14” front rotors, 13.6” rear rotors and 4 piston Brembos all around. Best braking car I have ever owned and is still one of my favorite mods I have done to my GTO, for both performance and looks. The same full on kit from Wilwood, Brembo or Harrop is easily $5000 or more depending on parts selection. Brakes are one of those modifications people don’t like to do because it can cost a lot of money that they would rather put elsewhere.

    I'm not a car expert, but I love cars I'm going to take a generalized stab at it, (and I paused it, before watching the video to comment). and I know I may be criticized harshly by all the CZcams experts, but if I'm on the right track, please, just add to it, don't tear me apart. OK.
    My guess is that the reason you don't need a bug brake kit is because big brakes cool much faster on race cars. That's because race cars are put under significantly higher stress, obviously, than a typical car on the street. And 99.9% don't drive a race car on the steers, therefore we don't need a big brake kit. Stock is just fine. A good tire with good tread or high performance tire.... (as everyone has heard before,) is what is keeping you from hitting the person in front of you... That old saying when you see someone driving on tires that are bald as an eagle. That's what stops you fast(er).
    So let me watch the video now as you guys either make my comment better with your input or tear me apart for trying.

    big brake kit or racing brakes does not help you stop faster if your stock brake can actully break friction on your tires when breaking those are mostly down to tire grip and contact pacth in combination with approriate spring rate that dictates your actual stoping distance what big brake kit or performance pads and brake fluid does is that it has more thermal and cooling capacity then your oem brakes that means its able to stop again and again and again which is usefull on the track.

    Question, how comparable is it if you upgraded the rotors and pads instead of going to a bigger brake kit? Also if you get new pads, upgraded pads, would you have to resurface the stock rotors if you were to just swap out the pads?

    • @icebox829
      @icebox829 Před rokem

      Upgraded pads and rotors and my stock brakes still only last so long before they start getting too hot. Big brake kits are for stopping more times and way harder and not giving up they don’t decrease your stopping distance. Suspension and tires do that. That’s true for low speeds. At high speeds most stock brakes can’t really stop the car that fast so a big brake kit would help high speed stopping distance like maybe your 120-0 time

      As someone who has one of the heaviest f3x variants (f31 diesel) that comes stock with the smallest factory brakes (312/300) I can confirm that 340/330 (335) brakes upgrades do have shorter distance. Enough to not rear end your average Nissan Toyota econobox in an emergency brake scenario. No real reason to go to 370/345 except looks.
