- The PC-98 era is a pretty niche era of Touhou history that few know and fewer love. I mean, I love this era! Hopefully you will find some love into the PC-98 era too. There lore doesn't have a lot to offer, but it still exists and is good to know!

I like to think Mimi-chan is just sitting happily in Marisa's house buried comfortably beneath all of her collected junk.
Not unlike the Ancient-Psychic-Tandem-WarElephant in Adventure Time.

In my head, I think the PC-98 Era is canon.
I think The place in Makai in Touhou 5 is a different area in Touhou 12, Makai is probably huge.
Yuuka could have moved from Mugenkan to the Sunflower Field.
And also I think that there is at the very least, a year time gap between Touhou 5 and 6, and during that time, spellcards became a big thing, Marisa and Reimu grew up a bit, Mima went somewhere else, Idk where honestly, Yuuka gained big interest in flowers, or at least more than before.
If I had to treat PC98 as canon, it'd go something like this.
Reimu went through the Hell Route in Touhou 1. This one is obvious, it's the only route where you fight Mima.
The yin-yang orb makes you immune to gaining weight from sweets. An amusing way to explain Reimu's smaller hitbox.
Marisa won the Dim. Dream contest. Given modern Marisa's house is extremely messy, I can definitely imagine her storing a nuke but having no idea where she left it or just forgetting all about it.
Marisa was the one that beat Yuuka. In Touhou 5, Yuuka seems to think very highly of Marisa's magical power.
Finally, Yuuka was the one who defeated Shinki. In her ending, she decides to drain Marisa's magical power. In Touhou 17.5, the character Yuuma has the ability to absorb anything but it affects her mindset. Likewise, Yuuka's personality has changed from 5 to 9 and now has flower related abilities (Marisa had some kind of plant power in Touhou 2).
If I may add to this, I have the theory that Mimi-chan was the inspiration for Marisa to develop her Magic Missile shot type by the time of MS
In this way, she sort of got what she wanted out of the events of PoDD: power. (You know, since that shot type is known for its massive damage output).

Since the Series always mentions Dream...what if the PC-98 Era is a Forgotten Dream and some characters who were able to return got remembered...
It makes sense, kinda like how super mario brothers 2 is a dream. But it doesn't make sense because they were definitely alive to see yumemi and the flying ship

She is a PC-98 character.
She is the main antagonist in Foul Detective Satori.

Abt the contradictions pointed on Makai and Yuuka's place, I personally don't treat those as contradictions, as one doesn't exclude the other (HRtP, MS and UFO are placed in Makai but in different places, and Yuuka can perfectly have Mugenkan and the Garden of Sun), only the Marisa part gets fuzzy, but at the same time can relate to a time before pc-98
I think that Yuuka doesn’t live in the flower fields instead she lives in the mansion but also visits the field a lot and those who meet her well…
ZUN loves Megami Tensei and Takemoto Izumi
So technically according to canon:
-Reimu might have gotten crucified
-Marisa has a nuke in her home (somewhere)
-Reimu has a (technically) dead body in her closet

"pc-98 is cannon but windows is also cannon while both are not at the sametime." while he did make time travel a thing and the games are full of random story plots. so each one of them are there own little realities. I mean those pc-98 timelines are to mixed up. so that's my headcannon. some of the games are different realities rather just one whole story. this is japan right? very old animes used to be filled with random things even hentais were very random back in the old days. there were almost no real stories. Touhou is like this and still is today. but the game plays are actually cool and I think that's the real goal rather just the story.
I think the fact that Marisa is just casually given a LIVE MISSILE, makes these games peak touhou
Ah, I wish Zun would bring back characters from at least PoDD
While it would be cool if it were canon and there are definitive references and potential continuity, I feel as though it is less annoying to just take ZUN's word literally and leave it at "Yeah, this probably should be canon, but actually consider it on the same level as fangames". There are just too many headscratchers on the connection to these two entities alone. (Stuff like, where the heck is the actual creator of Makai in the windows era?)
And then there is the absolutely weird nonsense where Seihou Project is presumably canon to the PC98 games in some regard related to the outside world(even tho this interaction is jank at best) and because of Seihou having an independant crossover(and because two Touhou PC98-characters show up in an extra stage, probably stolen), Project Blank would also be indirectly canon in some way despite having nothing to do with ZUN at all. When such an unintentional multiverse-setting just spawns into existance beyond the creator's control due to a "funni crossover, lol" he may have wanted to walk back on anyways, I feel as though it makes sense to support the idea of "Actually, yeah, let's forget about the past", even if that isn't the actual reason why it got trashed.

i headcanon that marisa and reimu actually killed off all people they fought . In LLL Marisa stage4 after she defeats Reimu, Reimu says “No! Don’t just kill me off like this!” Which I assume Marisa ended up killing Reimu anyways.
However, we do see Yuuka and Alice again in Windows.
There is also the fact that PC98 Touhou isn't as modable as the Windows games, so the games only got translated once. That line may be a mistranslation, just like the "Die Wily" in Mega Man 7.
