The History Behind Scorpion's Family in Mortal Kombat

- Scorpion's family had a lot of conflicting history over the years. Here, I go into it chronologically in release order (rather than separating it into various media). I think this is really the most logical way to present it.
For example, it was once implied (and shown, in some adaptations) that the family survived. They had never been killed!
As for names -- he was Yong Park before he was Hanzo Hasashi. His child (Tsui Park, Jubei Hazashi, or Sotoshi Hasashi) was shown to be an infant in MK9, a teenager in the novel, and somewhere in-between in most other interpretations. His wife was Kana Hasashi, later Harumi.
These pet names started out as a mistake caused by lack of communication but has been canonized in the latest movie! In which, for the first time, he has two children.

Scorpion is a tragic character. Tortured even when he wins because the past remains. Righteous anger mixed with impeccable skill, need I say more. I never play as Scorpion, but I respect him.

Hanzo's wife and child are like a throwaway switch, designed to use their deaths to turn Hanzo into Scorpion. Nothing else matters in the sands of time. That's why the names of the wives and children change from universe reverses, and Hanzo Hasashi is always THE Hanzo Hasashi (all of this is personal speculation).

I can guess you can say that we already knew that Scorpion's son as *Satoshi "Jubei" Hasashi,* that's a given, but there could be a possibility that either *Satoshi's sister* could be *Kana* or his wife is called *Harumi "Kana" Hasashi.*

It should be pointed out that Scorpion still went to hell. Even as loyal and honorable as he is, apparently, whatever he did before settling down with a family was still enough to give him near eternal damnation.
...Or everyone in MK just goes to hell when they die. I'm not sure if I like the sound of that.
Good point. In the games, he knowingly broke into a sacred Shaolin temple to steal an artifact, and was (presumably unknowingly) serving the dark forces. He probably killed many victims in his, but even if not, he served a clan of ninja assassins. So his deeds condemned him to Hell.
Not everyone goes go to Hell, though. In Johnny Cage's MKT ending/MK4 bio, it was mentioned that his soul ascended to the heavens - until he asked Raiden to restore him.
I respect you and every MK fans who spell Japanese names correctly like "Shirai Ryu". Like why many others and even game devs/actors spell "Raiu" Western style when it's literally the same as Street Fighter's Ryu? Also apply to Takeda with people spell like "Takeeda"

For example like: Johnny C. Sonya & Cassie. or siblings like Taven Daegon and Rain (?)? Perhaps Shinnok, Cetrion and Kronika. Goro and his family of Shokans.
I'm sure there are more examples for a video.

Great video. But I thought you'd also touch on the changes to how Scorpion's family died. Is it mentioned that they're dead before Mythologies? And a lot of people say that Quan Chi supposedly tells Scorpion that it was Kuai Liang who killed his family, but I actually don't see that in any official material. His MK4 bio gives him a different motivation and his and Sub-Zero's ending can be interpreted as just Scorpion blaming the Lin Kuei in general (through the elder Sub-Zero) instead of Kuai himself. Mythologies and the MKX comics have conflicting stories about how the family died, and then there's the deviations in adaptations...
Recently heard about a cut MK4 character named Belokk. Any ideas what he was about?
Oh yeah, he was a character who was almost included in MK Gold but was cut. Game Informer had shared some pics of him. Apparently Midway didn't authorize him and forced Eurocom to remove all traces of him from the game.

I always had a question about time periods when Bi-Han killed Scorpion's family in the games.
When he killed them... that seems like it occured in Feudal Japan, implying that it didn't occur near the time of the first tournament.
Will that mean that Bi-Han time traveled (Outworld idk) or that Scorpion's death was close to the time of the first tournament?

Hey, in some adaptations - starting with MK Legacy and again in the MK 2021 movie - those events took place in feudal Japan.
But in the games - and I mean every single game, old timeline or new - these events took place in the modern day (e.g., 2 years before MK1). This is one thing the games have all been consistent on!
